  1. All kidding aside, nice that a fft doesn't count towards five match limit anymore.
  2. Pretty sure this isn't accurate. Hope to someday watch my gk's wrestle if I'm lucky enough to ever have any. Not sure how you're assuming I'm the villian in this situation. Is it because because I've taken my kid out of state twice this off season? The other stuff we have done has been all in state with local clubs (four competitions to be exact). As I've previously stated, for each of the six competitions we've went to I've offered to take whatever kids wanted to go along. Exactly zero took me up. So if I'm the bad guy and the primary culprit ruining our sport, then I guess I should beg forgiveness and find out what I can do to make amends. As a parent I thought I was pretty supportive but you've shown me otherwise. Additonally, we haven't been able to do extra during the week because my wife thinks my kid needs to study or something. Not sure where she gets these crazy notions.
  3. This is the second time you've mentioned Regional Qualifiers and below, as if it's a stigma. I remember a couple of years ago you admonished me for saying that qualifying for Regionals wasn't that big of a deal. You proceeded to pour forth the statistics as to how impressive qualifying for Regionals actually was (I'm sure you'll be able to comb thru the archives and find our discussion). Guess a lot has changed as far as your perceptions over the last couple of years. BTW, there are plenty of "Regional Qualifiers and below" seeking competition and willing to travel for it.
  4. It's pretty obvious the off season is in full swing. What a ridiculous subject to be getting your undies in a bundle over. Kids/parents being taken to task for where they wrestle in the off season. Hilarious.
  5. They are not mutually exclusive. I think most folks do a combination of local AND out of state. Do I know dads that won't have their kids wrestle any USA stuff be it local or national? Yes. But I find those individuals to be the exception and they have their reasons so who am I to judge. Frankly, I don't believe it's the out of state tourney's that are killing local tourneys. It's apathy amongst the kids that are in wrestling clubs. It's one thing to go for an hour on Tuesday and Thursday to your clubs off season workouts, but ask a kid to give up a Saturday and/or a Sunday? Forget it. When I see the obnoxius, neon green Penn singlets show up at a tourney I, for one, am ecstatic. If only more clubs could provide numbers like that. Face it gang, wrestling is tough, plain and simple. Isn't enough flash and there sure isn't any ESPN coverage to attract the casual kid to come out. It's the unique kid that doesn't mind toiling in anonymity. Can it be fixed? I suppose but I can't figure it out. My son designed what he described as a "sick" singlet for his club and then he came up with the idea of giving any wrestler the singlet for free if they attended 4 off season tourneys, otherwise the kid would have to pay for it. Not sure if it would work but it's out of the box thinking anyways.
  6. A question I would ask is what states are really getting it done in regards to USA Wrestling and G & FS tournaments? Is Illinois nailing it? If so, what are they doing that we aren't or, maybe, can't do? Are there any states with a demographic similar to ours (population, # of schools that offer H.S. wrestling - approx 300 - etc.) that is really getting it done in regards to USA Wrestling or at the very least, standing pat and not losing numbers? If everyone is suffering, then we have to create the wheel to fix the problem. If some state is getting it done, then we should begin to pattern ourselves after them, ie, don't re-create the wheel.
  7. From some reports i listened to the night this came to conclusion, they were receiving govt assistance. What's your point?
  8. Indiana placers - Cadet 110 Pepple 6th 135 Timberman 4th 242 Ellis 3rd Elite 146 Gweisah 8th 285 Jackson 8th
  9. Unfortunately the money sports are all that matter, bball and football, and those sports have been dominated by the big schools. Heck, the last time bellmont won a fball championship, hhs beat them easily in the regular season and hhs lost in the 2d rd of the playoffs that season. I think schools like bellmont might like a shot at a conference title in a spprt like football when they area good instead of losing to a conference competitor and then going on and winning a state title.
  10. I know but senior year is usually the best year of a student athletes high school career and to not be in a rough NE Indiana conference will be a bummer. Frankly, I'm disappointed the conference isn't continuing on in name. But if they are disbanding I suppose they would have to rename it NHC II or something.
  11. Got it. I always believed for the money sports, HHS and Carroll were improperly placed in the NHC. However, as far as wrestling is concerned, the NHC has little to fear from HHS (Carroll is a different story) but I love the competition provided by the NHC for my sons. Definitely made (makes) them better. It will be sad for my youngest.
  12. I have had some discussions with some folks in the know regarding HHS joining the SAC and from what I understand, HHS (and I'm guessing Carroll as well) would not be interested in joining the SAC because of their gate splitting policy. In other words, the home team has to split the gate receipts with the visiting team. So on a Friday night in the Fall, if HHS were in the SAC, and the Wayne Generals were the visiting team and they brought 20 fans and HHS had 2000, those dollars from ticket sales would be split 50/50 between Wayne and HHS (not bagging on Wayne, just using them as an example). In the NHC, again, as I understand it, the home team keeps all gate receipts. Pretty powerful reason ($) for the SAC not being attractive to schools like HHS and Carroll. Again, I'm not sure what is happening with this "disbandment." Are Carroll and HHS out or are they in? I've always heard the other schools wanted them out (justified, IMO) but I'm confused by what I'm reading on this thread.
  13. Is 2015 the first season it wont exist? I thought a two year notice hadto be given before it could be effected. If thats the case and were in 2013, then the conference would need to stay together thru the 2015 school year by my estimation.
  14. If I'm being a troll, what do you call Triple B getting on the thread regarding Nuway and making the crack that he should start calling his club's offseason tournament a "national" tournament? Equally "trollified" if you ask me. Listen, we do support local tourney's. My kid goes to as many as possible, both USA sponsored and Hyway sponsored. I know they help fund programs. I can't do more than attend those that are reasonable to get to. Do I promote these offseason tourney's to the kids in our club? Absolutely. Do I offer drive them to weigh ins and the tourney's themselves? You bet. Have I had any takers? Not one. So don't preach to me about trying to do something re supporting local tourney's other than getting on here and being a "troll." Mr Pot, meet Mr Kettle. I was being a sarcastic d-bag because the thread I had set up as a recognition post turned into how bad it was that kids were leaving the state to find competition and it seemed some folks were having fun with the "becoming an AA" by winning a local tournament. A shot not deserved, IMO.
  15. Careful bringing notice of Indiana wrestlers going to a tournament out of state. Those 112 wrestlers arent supporting the local tournaments going on in Indiana.
  16. A local club tourney doesn't need national status to be attractive to wrestlers. We have had a USA card for years and as I've stated, we've supported tournney's within reasonable driving distance. But tell me how many parents want to drive over 100 miles one way for two matches? I think that is the problem. Our club used to run a tourney the weekend of semistate and it was wonderfully attended (over 400 wrestlers each time we held it) but, again, it was not that well attened by by high schoolers. I don't know the answer to the problem but don't fault high school kids for travelling out of state seeking a higher number of matches.
  17. It seems like the local tournaments don't bring in the toughest competition all the time (if a stud host club runs one, their wrestlers are busy reffing, etc, usually). Also, depending on the size of your kid, you may only have 3 or 4 kids in a bracket at the local tournaments (my son is a Cadet 106 pounder so that's a typical issue for us when we go the the club sponsored/local tournaments). We don't avoid going to them but we only go to stuff close to home. Last Sunday was very worth our while as he got 5 matches in on Sunday. I think the local tournaments are more fruitful for School Boy and below. Just my opinion. I'm sure there are some local tournaments that are bursting at the seams at all weight classes for all divisions but I tend to think that is the exception rather than the rule.
  18. I made the original post and my kid wrestled in it and I'm the first to admit it's not the toughest national tournament around. Never claimed that it was. Mostly kids from Michigan populate the brackets but more than a few Illinois kids are there and a couple handfuls from other states. If Samdad (who's a knob to begin with) doesn't recognize Nuway as a legit organization, that's his issue. If your kid isn't on a Scholastic dual team or wrestling at FloNats, then you gotta find competition somewhere and Battle Creek happens to be within 1.5 hours of my home so the decision was easy. I just decided to post Indiana kids results because I noticed, as the day wore on, there were quite a few Indiana kids on the mats which I thought was great. Once the tourney was done, I looked over the results and noticed a number of kids from Indiana placed so I decided to post the results. Mat time is where it's at while it's available in the offseason. Just trying to get in as much in as possible before it dries up and camps become the focus.

  20. relax dude, i think y2's right. just havin a little fun
  21. Y2 - I think you are right regarding this situation. I just thought it was funny that the guy said you should never assume. Based on your acerbic posts after someone disagrees with you (the mountain of "factual evidence" you provide) I thought it ironic someone would even think you would merely "assume" something. Personally, I "feel" you are right about 50% to 60% of the time. The other 40% to 50% you are dead wrong. Hey, .500 ain't bad!
  22. Y2 never assumes. Never has "feelings" regarding a subject (kind of like a Vulcan). Just "the facts Ma'm" as the detectives on Dragnet used say. Every side he takes is unquestionably the right side because the facts are always on his side. No one is right, even remotely/slightly, that oppose his POV (and if you believe this I have some swamp land in Florida I'd like to talk to you about). That Dragnet reference is really dating me.
  23. Sanderson in a controlled victory but doubt it would be a major.
