  1. I wouldn't count out Penn against Cathederal.
  2. In 2008 Eric Roach from Crown Point and Tom Churchard from Valpo met in the finals of sectionals, regionals, semi-state and state finals. All matches were decided by 1 point. They didn't meet in the Duneland torney because Churchard bumped to 135 and beat McMurray. Then at state McMurray beat Galka at 135 to win state.
  3. I thought the Schurg -Gomez match was the biggest upset of the day. Schurg had bumped up in class twice and beat the 170lb champ 8to 3 and 11 to 1. His only losses had been to #1 Harvey, #3 Steveson and #4 Goodnight. He will get to see Goodnight at team state.
  4. fwrestler: Maybe I did go a little overboard calling the official a chauvanist but the way he called the match there was left little doubt on who he wanted to win the match. Check out Cosgrove's post. I'm sure he knows more about wrestling than you ever did and he agrees with me. You either weren't there or are from Merrillville. My son watchedf the match on the Web from Avon and he also thinks she received at least 3 bad calls that went in favor of the Merrillville kid.
  5. I don't know about favorite but SB Clay had the ugliest singlets that I have seen at the Merrillville semi-state. They were yellow and black and like a checkerboard. Then in the finals with Gallegos against Kral it looked like Gallegos had boxer shorts sticking out of his singlet bottom, which was even worse.
  6. She showed that she has all of the moves, both offensive and defensive. She only missed by a second or 2 of having a pin on the Penn kid which would have put her in the finals and in the consolation she had a chauvanist for an official. He had no intention of letting her come out of that match as the victor. Twice Garza looked like he was going to put her on backbut she got out of it both times and all she had to do was pull her head out and she would of had at least a reversal but the ref called a stalemate both times. Also when she was on top and they went out of bounds the ref gave Garza a point and there was no separation at all. Good luck at state Kayla. In my opinion you were the 2nd best 106lber at the Merrillville semi-state.
  7. Ervin from Crown Point beat Truver from Lake Central 11-4 at the dual meet, but at the Team state dual Ervin got stuck and was pinned by Truver. Coach was so mad he wrestled a JV kid against Merrillville's Garza. The JV kid did a great job and didn't even give up a major against highly ranked Garza.
  8. Frane did indeed beat Darden Schurg at the Warsaw duals 3-1. This was Schurg's first high school match and had to cut a lot of weight to get down to 113. Won middle school state last year at higher rate. Last year's second place finisher (Fuqua) at 103 wanted to go 120 so Schurg had to cut to 113. Frane's takedown was almost immediate in the match and couldn't get any more takedowns. Like to see these 2 matchup at state. Unfortunately Schurg will most likely come in as a 3rd place finisher as he has to meet Brooks in the semi's at Merrillville.
  9. It seems a lot of people are picking Martsoff to beat Burlison. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Josh Fuqua beat Martsoff 6-3 at 119lbs at the Traicoff and Burlison only lost 5-3 to Binion, who of course is not now wrestling, but wa highly ranked at the time
  10. Should Crown Point beat Kokomo (they beat them 45 to 15 at Warsaw, they will have a tough time against Cathederal. They beat them at the Traicoff but Cathederal' lineup is much better now. They have the best 1-2 punch in the state at 160 and 170. Crown Point will have to keep from getting pinned in these 2 matches.
  11. Just because a wrestler is in the consolation one week doesn't mean he can't be in the championship match the next week. I noticed that a kid at 160lb took 4th at the Mishawaka sectional, then went and won the Rochester Regional.

  13. I agree with most of your picks with the exception of 195 and 285. I'll take Langbehn at 195 and Pitrowski at 285. And at 132 it depends which Halsted shows up.
  14. I think Kourtney Berry ferom Merrillville is going to surprise a lot of people. He is an animal. I'll take him over Sliga, even though Sliga has some National titles. Don't bet your farm on Sliga.

  16. I think the best 2 songs that have ever been sung at the state faceoff of the 28 young men in the finals were: ' ONE MOMENT IN TIME' and the other one was 'THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM' Both of these songs were about the moment and back in 1995 I wrote 2 or 3 letters to then Commissioner Robert Gardner, to no avail. If you are an oldtimer like me you would remember and appreciate how beautiful it made the ceremony.

The AD's program has a glitch and won't print both scores of the final and consolation matches and I didn't catchthem all as I was watching our boys. Most of them are right.
  18. Made another mistake. Better take my clipboard from me. Darde Schurg is actually 27-1. I forgot he was sick last week and didn't wrestle against Valpo. Buckley didn't wrestle either. A forfeit was given to Riley Akers of CP instead.
  19. Darden Schurg of Crown Point is 27-1 at 113 lb. Only lost was first match of year against Frane from Dekalb 3-1.
  20. This is to add some history on the Schurg famoily. Dusty is 81-22 so far: Freshman - 24-10 at 126 lb; Soph - 32-9 at 160 and 25-3 at 160 thus far this year. Darden is a freshman and has a record of 28-1 thus far at 113 lb
  21. Please excuse all the typing errors and some omissions. I am in a hurry to watch the football game. D-Train: Are you moving out of the area within the next 2 weeks.?/ If so, I know who you are.
  22. Well, I admit I did error somewhat, but after reviewing all my records I findthat his actual record after his junior year was 128-2. Let me explain a descrepencie. Going into the wsectional his freshman year the showed his record tpo be 24-1. He won 3 matcvhes to be 27-1. Then at the team regional he won 1 and lost 1 (to Napules from Merrillville) which made his record going into the individual regional 28-2. However, the program given out or sold showed his record to be 29-2.. So I don't know where the additional win came from. Then after winning 3 matches his record should have bee3n 31-2, yet the semi-state book showed him to be 32-2 entereing semi-state action. Then after winning 4 matches there his record should have been 35-2, instead of 36-2. Then with 4 wins at state his record going to team state should have been 39-2, not counting the unexplained additional win. And winning all 3 of his matchs his record should have been 42-2 his freshman. Then his 2nd and 3rd years he was 43-0 both years. If that other win can be explained I find his record to be 129-2 after 3 years. Sorry, I hadn't realized that the team regional matches wee indeed included on his state program record. This year he is 28-0. I don't know where someone came up with 131-2 after 3 years.
  23. I'd like to see Frane and Schurg go at it again. I don't know who Frane has to go thru to go into state as a winner, but it is highly doubtful that Schurg could beat Brooks, since he is a beast and is ranked 1st in the nation. So Schurg , if he makes it which is very probable would be wrestling a 2nd or 3rd place finisher.
  24. You might be right, I forgot the team state series, starting with team regional. So last year he would have been 45-0, his freshman year he was 45-2 and his 2nd year he was 45-0, which gave him a total of 135-2 going into this year and he is 28-0 this year so his record is currently 163-2 for his career.sorry for the oversight.
  25. Alex and Jason together have a record of 388 wins and 2 losses after last night 's pin by Jason. Alex was 236-0 Jason is now 152-2.
