  1. I did have a dog late in the day after they ran out of EVERYTHING else. It was dug out from the far back of the warming box. Would have been better off skipping that. But I must say, the tamales were worth the trip as always!
  2. Note this is a satirical point of view only after reading all the previous comments....laugh, have fun or take at face value? Not meant to offend anyone's point of view. Or the conspiracy theory surfaces- Girls wrestling has seen phenomenal growth in both numbers and talent. The carrot is dangled that if you do everything the right way as you should that the IHSAA may sanction Girls Wrestling in 2024-25. The numbers grow and the 2023-24 IHSGW season and regional competitions are exceptional. The season is capped off with an attendace packed energy filled fieldhouse in Kokomo. Rumor is Robert Faulkens is in attendance to check it out for himself and further evaluate the worthiness and timeliness of sanctioning girls wrestling for the following year? Then low and behold Sparklegate hits the board. The attention of a successful season and post season is now in question because rules allegedly cannot be followed? It was almost as if....do everything that has been asked of you and you may be rewarded? Which may now turn into....whoa this isn't how we do things....maybe we need more time to consider and evaluate sanctioning girls wrestling? You can do everything right and one little thing wrong. Sometimes screaming about your own injustices results in more self damage than justice. Hmmmm some things to consider? Let's see if this seemingly little issue affects the big picture now....or maybe that was the purpose all along? If a reason was needed to not move forward....can we please not give it to them.
  3. On behalf of the Faulkner Family, Mishawaka Wrestling and the Mishawaka Community we extend heartfelt thanks to all of our Indiana Wrestling Family that helped make Beef Bash a big success. It was overwhelming to see all of the people that came together to honor Mike Faulkner's vision. Sincere thanks!
  4. mishawakawrestling.org/product-category/beef-bash/ Please consider joining Mishawaka Wrestling by making a donation to the link above. Mike "Beef" Faulkner was the living embodiment of a Mishawaka Caveman. He represented the Mishawaka Wrestling program and the sport of wrestling with integrity and class throughout the State and beyond. Mike was never shy about where he was from. He loved the sport of wrestling and MHS and was an ambassador for both. Before his passing Mike had shared his vision and a dream of his to have a bigger than life bronze Caveman Statue erected at Mishawaka High School. Once completed no one will ever look at that statue without remembering all the contributions that Mike made to MHS and the sport of wrestling. By donating through the link above to Mishawaka Wrestling we can all collectively donate as a wrestling family to fulfill Mike's vision. All proceeds will be presented on behalf of Mishawaka Wrestling and the Indiana Wrestling Community on Saturday towards the vision and dream of Michael "Beef" Faulkner.
  5. A few random shots of Mishawaka RTC last week. Note girls we did have four girls participating along with Mishawaka Alum and North Central All American Salome Walker in the room....home for Spring Break last week. Come and take advantage of a great opportunity to get better. Good mix of area kids and coaches in the room each week. Note new start time pushed back to 6PM to give everyone the time to get here. See you tonight!!
  6. Kudos to our Mishawaka Trainer Hannah Hess who traveled to EC to support the Cavemen wrestlers and spent all day as a volunteer working the event and helping everyone's wrestlers. Saw her at the end of the day and she looked more exhausted than our boys that competed. Great job Hannah...way to represent.
  7. So even with the Pre Sale codes they have Lower Level Section 8 unavailable for purchase? Mishawaka has been sitting in Section 8 every single year since ever. So are they really going to force the Cavemen to invade the sovereign borders of our neighbors to the east or west? Anyone know why Section 8 is the ONLY one that is not available for purchase at this time?
  8. Also be prepared for Ticketmaster ridiculous add on fees? Just did a mock purchase to a lower league BB game with two $10 seats.....total purchase price was $44 to the cart.
  9. ECSS 220 Alternate Zander Paden of Mishawaka is in for SB St Joe's John Aranowski who was injured at Penn Regionals.
  10. Looking forward to it Coach Wadkins. You always do a great job and put on a top notch tournament every year!!
  11. Confirmed by Coach Diaz earlier this week. Girls are wrestling in the morning session.
  12. So given all of this criteria to follow to purchase tickets...is there a way for a group to be able to sit together? Or will all the parents and fans from all schools going to be scattered all over?
  13. For what it is worth....I expect you will see a much different Penn lineup on Saturday. Penn has only wrestled once or twice prior to last night and they are always tweaking the early season lineup. Note....no Denton, Harper or Matteo at 113, 120, 126. Upper weights bumped all over the place. They will tune it in. I wouldn't draw too many early conclusions from what you saw last night? Last night was just some more of the misinformation Russian collusion. Believe it or not???
  14. This topic asks about Club Activity but in the broader scope is relative to the entire Wrestling Program within a school corporation as the Head High School Coach is usually also directly responsible for all of the other age groups....Middle School, Elementary and Club programs. I am looking for feedback that we can use collectively to help each other to safely resume wrestling at all levels. I am curious to know specifically which school corporations are allowing use of school premises for any other age groups other than High School. For example I will start.....looking for something like this: MISHAWAKA - High School season will progress within the guidelines of IHSAA and School City of Mishawaka following the covid protocol established by both. Our SCM sponsored elementary program for all elementary schools which has always been used as great way to introduce the sport of wrestling to those that would not otherwise be involved and would normally be going on right now....has been cancelled for this year. Our Middle School program which does not start up until January 2021 will be contingent upon how the high school season progresses. Our Club program which would normally be prime time for new season sign ups right now has also been put on "hold" until after the first of January. School policy right now is prohibiting any non sanctioned IHSAA activity which is not directly related to in season sports. We are currently looking at "off campus" options for our anxious club wrestlers and parents to hold club practices. Just wondering what other programs are doing during this time. My hope would be that there are some programs that are "on campus" and active in all age groups and managing the covid crisis with safe protocols in place. By sharing the initiative and success of those that are and are willing to share, it provides good feedback for others like ourselves to share with our admins. Wrestling will continue to be one of the most misunderstood sports (to outsiders) but hey....football is making this thing work.....so can we.
  15. Love it! He has set the bar high for a rookie. Future champion mindset right there.
  16. Great breakdown....mine is very very close to yours. With maybe a few "homer" placements being the difference..haha. Swing bracket for Riley & Wawasee will be how the 152 bracket plays out? Should be some good matchups and a great day of wrestling. Stay healthy everyone....see you Saturday!
  17. I don't post often but when I do and there may be opposing views I post my name so there is no confusion where my opinion is coming from. This is Steve Sandefer Sr. Yes my son is the current head coach at Mishawaka, but other than that I am not an official administrator or coach at Mishawaka. I proudly support our community, school and team. I love wrestling and try to positively promote the sport at all levels....not just self serving to our own program. As such I do have some disappointment and contention to see such negative comments regarding individuals within a profession that give so much to support our sport of wrestling. The officiating crew that worked the Al Smith are top notch gentlemen that have given many many years of service to this sport. Many of those being criticized openly on social media are Hall of Fame individuals that have literally been involved in promoting this sport most of their lives. We will soon be reaching a crisis situation in our State if we are not able to recruit and develop young officials that will shortly be NEEDED to replace these lifelong veterans. There is simply no way we can do this with the attitude displayed on social media by a few individuals that didn't have a match go their way this weekend. To the simple fan or parent I can with almost 100% certainty guarantee that in the coach's meeting prior to the first match that this crew of officials explained exactly how stalling was going to be called. Most likely with examples for each situation. I can also assure you that 32 teams of coaches relayed this information to their wrestlers. But lets face it....we are still dealing with high school kids. They are still going to back up, play the outside edge, not circle in, lay on their stomachs no matter how many times a coach yells "UP", ride the hips while controlling on top without moving side to side. The philosophy is increased action. I get it....the call does not always go your way...but to get on a public forum and call out an entire crew for bias, call out the tournament director for being at fault, calling out a Hall of Fame Coach and official by name.....there is in my OPINION no place in this sport that allows for positive to come from that action. If you are a wrestler on a team, a coach, a parent, an alumni of a program or just a fan...you have a responsibility to REPRESENT your program with the dignity and character your program deserves. Again IMO that cannot be done by casting shadows over others in our sport that selflessly have given their dedication and time to simply give YOUR kids the opportunities that are necessary for them to compete in this sport. Also keep in mind that in particular to the Al Smith Invitational...the key word is invitational. It has always been an honor to be a team that is invited and Mishawaka considers many factors when extending those invitations. This year was no exception and may have been the best overall field ever. If you have valid concerns that you feel can make this a better tournament...by all means...use the proper channels and communicate that with your coaches and Athletic Departments to relay those concerns to Coach Sandefer and his Athletic Department. Negative feelings in the heat of the moment simply shared on social media doesn't really solve anything or even make you feel better if you are honest. Thankful for the support of our Superintendent and School Board as a few were in attendance, our Athletic Dept, Officiating Crew and table workers both days. Our announcers Mike & Mike...Mike Reiser in the Cave and Mike Kensinger in the big boy gym. Coaches, team, parents, fans & MHS Alum for helping to make this another great Al Smith!! Remember I am just a FAN so don't hold my views against those that are working hard everyday for your wrestlers. POSITIVELY PROMOTE THE SPORT. Steve Sandefer Sr.
  18. After some very valued input from coaches and officials alike that have many years of experience with helping to make the Al Smith the tournament that it is today....Coach Steven Sandefer was able to communicate those concerns on the fly this morning with his Athletic Directors as he was busy coaching and they were busy getting this tournament started this morning. Credit to our AD's Dean Huppert and Sherry Keyser to trust the information that was being relayed in such swift motion and realizing immediately an alternative date was needed right away. Thankfully our Athletic Department take a lot of pride in running the best tournament that we can...and that is accomplished with the valued, constructive and positive input as was received from many of you today.
