  1. OTR, I forgot about the 119 class. Another pretty stacked class!
  2. Well I would say at the point of conception would be the very best. During the 9 months in the womb, I would say start dieting, but by the time he is high school age, it probably will not matter because the lowest weight class will be 130. Oh and he really does not have to be that tough, becasue there will also probably be about a 10 Class system in place. Once he is born, hopefully he comes out right away and takes down the doctor, after news of this has spread, Mater Dei, Mishawaka, Merrilville, Crown Point, etc. will probably be sending you letters to persuade you to come and wrestle for their schools.
  3. Wow. 7 out of 16 Ranked from this Semi-State. With only 4 tickets available. Should be an entertaining weight class to watch.
  4. What down time? I hope we are not gonna have to leave and start another site?
  5. I am gonna say Merrilville wins this one.
  6. Hey Rookies, your friend must have wrestled someone from the Merrilville SemiState!
  7. I agree that the coverage we have gotten from The Times is very bad. I actually e-mailed the sports editor, which I believe is Jim Peters, about this last year. I inquired about the lack of coverage. He responded rather quickly with an explanation as to the lack of coverage. He basically told me with budget cuts that everyone is feeling in this down economy, the lack of the staff to cover the events is what leads to the result we have seen. This was last year, so I suppose it has gotten even worse for them this year. He also mentioned that unfortunately with basketball being the main draw, there is probably no relief in sight as the resources will continue to head in that direction. So I guess maybe we , the wrestling community, should bombard the sports editor's e-mail box, letting them know that maybe they should consider finding the resources to cover our events or risk losing some subscribers.
  8. The following is the seeding meeting information for all coaches. 9. Any idea what happened to Brady @ 140? Been out the loop for a bit, have to had a chance to follow the way I have in the past. Ok never mind did not make it to the 145 bracket yet!
  10. Thanks RG. You going Tuesday & Wednesday? Will be there on Wednesday.
  11. Thanks Boiler. I was wondering though the placement in the brackets. I believe it goes this way: 1- Top Wrestler Match 1 8- Bottom Wrestler Match 4 5- Top Wrestler Match 5 4 - Bottom Wrestler Match 8 3 - Top Wrestler Match 9 6 - Bottom Wrestler Match 12 7 - Top Wrestler Match 13 2 - Bottom Wrestler Match 16 Can anyone confirm this for me?
  12. Can someone help me out. I know the Top 8 are seeded. Can someone refresh my memory as to which lines the seeded wrestlers are placed on? Thanks.
  13. Hard to argue with a 4 timer, but Schontube would have gave him all he could handle. Think it would be closer than most would expect.
  14. Ah yes, I think most teams here in the state take a back seat to that sport they play with that pumpkin lookin thing. My best memory of taking a back seat to basketball was in 93 when we had won the Merrillville Sem-State over the weekend and our Vice Principal gave a long drawn out Congratualtions to our GIRLS basketball team , for get this, LOSING at Regionals. At the end of the announcements it was a pretty much, oh and by the way "Congrats to our wrestling team this weekend for winning the Semi-State tourney". Talk about a slap in the face. So am I a little bias here and bash the sport of basketball any chance I get, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! PS So my heart was broken this year when my 7yo decided he wanted to try basketball!
  15. Hey y2 fortunately for you the fest da rat is reffering to is held between July 14th and 19th. Here is a link provided all of the acts performing throughout the weeks. 16. Well about 31 years ago on the morning of March 22, 1978, I seen this light and proceeded to gravitate to it. As it got brighter a strange man wearing a funny mask and gloves pulled me out of my home of 9 months and proceeded to smack me, without hesitation I hit a high crouch doubling off on him taking him straight to his back and the rest is pretty much history.
  17. I would not mind seeing the Team portion classed, but feel the individual portion should be left alone, for now. I have read the numerous rants about why class is better or why classless is better. It is always brought up how our surrounding states are the big dogs when it comes to wrestling and they have success in a class system. I do think we are closing the gap, and part of the reason is the mainstreaming of our folkstyle at the lower levels. I do not recall having any folkstyle until I arrivied in middle school when I wrestled. Overall I see the quality of mat wrestling definitely improving in Indiana, which is IMO instrumental to succeed at the next level. We are starting to see more kids recruited in-state and around. Is it where we would like it, no, but it seems to be improving. I know some one is going to ask the rehtorical(sp?) question "Wouldn't class wrestling improve it even more?" Maybe it will, maybe it will not. That is a huge step I think to class the indivdual sport and think there are other things that need to be fixed before we attempt to class our sport.
  18. Ed, You may be getting yourself in over your head with the bowling thing!
  19. Little off topic, but since data has been compiled here, does anyone have any data on how long each state has had a folkstyle little kids program in place?
  20. I thought it was awesome. I agree drooke, that line was great.
  21. I was thinking the same thing when I seen/heard it. Maybe someone should pick-up the ball for them and mention who that loss was to tomorrow night in the finals. Didn't one of our moderators have some pull at ESPN? 8)
  22. Oscar, Maybe I am getting soft as I get older, but because of things you have pointed out with the headlock, I am in favor of not allowing pee-wee or bantams to use the headlock, period. I have seen at numerous kids tourneys, "volunteer" refs not even recognizing the illegal headlock without the arm or not above the elbow. I just see a safety issue with out at the lower levels.
