Georgia is moving up quickly!!! They have some dudes!!!! With that said, they have 7 classes in high school. Our class wrestling advocates, need to research their recent success and bring that to the class wrestling debate!  @Thor

At the youth level they had Compound. I still see Minons. Lately.. Roundtree has been really tough. These dudes are tough as HELL.

I may know a dude down in Georgia! We do always bust his, ugh marbles about the toughness of his competition. Definitely some hammers down there though. The Lovett School for anyone that was wondering.

10 Bucks the IHSAA never puts the state championships back in Indy. Just a feeling.

I would say my odds are better hitting the Powerball jackpot than this tournament never making it back to Indy.

Thank you Evansville for being a gracious host and bringing back my MSA memories, but as the old saying goes, "There's no place like home." I am be glad it will be back in Indy. I could list several reasons why, apologies if that offends some, cause I by no means am saying it was a bad venue or experience. Indy is just simply better for this tournament. As far as revenue goes, our State tournament is probably third behind Football and Boy's basketball and would like to see the comparison to the girl's basketball tournament held a week later at Gainbridge.

  3. I am going to assume that the issue with the electronic tickets was the inability to handle the amount of people that would be using their devices to show their tickets. Was told in some friendly conversations this morning it was an issue at last weekend's Semi-State. So I can see why the want/need to go old school with a paper ticket, was necessary to avoid hold ups when entering the arena. If you have an electronic ticket, I would recommend downloading it to your device to avoid any hold ups when entering with it later today. Best of luck to everyone today, both wrestlers and ticket holders!

As big as it is we could do one per semi-state. I would be happy to host one at Homestead next year.

428 total wrestlers at the South qualifier

540 total wrestlers at the North qualifier

Great numbers, but it would be nice to see these distributed a little more evenly. It seems like the Indy area prefers to come up to the North as opposed to heading South. I would imagine if you did add a Central qualifier on the same day as both the North and South, it would help shorten up the days at each location. Probably would add to the overall numbers too, as I would imagine some of the centrally located wrestlers would be more willing to wrestle without having to travel to different time zones.

Find out from the coach who in my opinion is one of, if not the best in the state at being very consistent every year . He has now done this at 2 different schools , I'm talking about Brownsburg's Darrick Snyder . Alot of teams can reach the mountain top , Staying at or near the top every year is another story .  My Kingsmen did it in 2015 but haven't sniffed anywhere close to that since . Snyders teams are in the top 5 and fighting for titles every year . Since 2016 Brownsburg has finished the IHSAA Tourney #2 , #1 , #2 , #3 , #4 , #6 , #2 , and #3 . They are my favorite to win it next year , that's consistency . Not many teams can boast these kind of numbers for 8 straight years . Like I said earlier , he done this at Mishawaka as well . If you want the secret sauce , ask Snyder.

To piggy back on this, consistency does not have to be measured only by high placement success in the State tournament. We can probably go through the list of schools that year in and year out produce individuals that compete quite well amongst the ranks. Agreed though, Coach Snyder definitely has been the best at doing it year in and year out. I will say this though, I bet you one ingredient in that sauce is simple, time. You have to be willing to put it in, sacrifice it, and try to find enough of it to spread around.

I do not think anyone can present a good argument against the influence that academies has had on our sport. I also would hope that these academies are producing the types of results that they have been, I mean at the end of the day, that is what is being paid for right? I also am quite certain that if many of these academy coaches were to take over a high school program, we would see those programs at or near the top consistently every year, as there are already some examples of this happening.

I get what you are saying, but with the format of the state finals, sometimes the second best wrestler loses before the finals. Draw can impact the strength of the path so to speak. Sometimes the "finals" happen in the semis. I don't think it's as clear cut as you would initially think.

So many great names in this topic. My brother and I had a conversation this weekend about how tough it is to make the semi-final match of the State tournament. I get that some paths leading there are more difficult than others, but to get to that match, you are beating someone pretty good, or at least someone that just beat someone pretty good. My hats off to all the current and previous state semi-finalist. To me this makes it even more impressive how some guys just make this look so easy.

He also told me that there is no limit on tickets when it goes live tommorrow.

That would be a change from last year, I think my brother was telling me that there was a limit of 8 per purchase last year. Not sure how I feel about the no limit though, as with anything, that can be abused also, but it would be nice to allow fans to purchase larger blocks to sit together.

It should not be this difficult for friends, fans, coaches, admin, and family to sit next to one another. Everyone already has so much on their plate this week and worrying about seating is ridiculous.

As if worrying about seating the day of is any better? I mean getting in line way ahead of time, the mad sprint, the saving of seats, the almost fights over said saved seats.

100 percent agree. I think that the frustration is that we feel like we are not well informed. It’s an emotional 4 weeks. We are all on pins and needles for a month. Thank god for this forum that lets us all have these discussions to help eachother get through it all.

I would suggest that the IHSAA put out a statement that outlines their plan and process as we move toward the finals weekend. Just not knowing is the tough part.

Great job on the show yesterday Joe, and thanks for keeping us all informed as best as you can.

Well I think that would be ideal and definitely help alleviate the stress, the  IHSAA does most of their communicating through their ADs. I might suggest checking with them first and finding out exactly when this info was sent to them. As with anything, not all ADs are created equal. Just reading some of the comments, I feel as if some got info out a little sooner to their staff and parents. I would find it difficult to believe that certain schools got it before others. If that was the case, a legitimate gripe you would have.

I THINK OVERALL A BETTER PROCESS THIS YEAR FOR SURE.

I do wist that the Order of the Mats was made known well ahead of time. And with the release of the bracket with MATCH # which they did. A mat number as well. I understand it may yet still change or it is going to be adjusted. I hope it is to Clockwise.

Hope you all got in one spot this year. It was a little awkward asking Saturday who we should cheer for with lone seat in the middle of our row and he said Joey. My reply was of course, well I don't think that is possible for this match but lets agree after, we can support each other the rest of the tournament! Best of luck to you this weekend and a healthy week leading up to it.

A lot of us parents did purchase all session passes. The interesting thing will be if they actually honor them.

Better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

Probably worth taking a shot at them and getting money returned later. If they indeed are offering all session tickets to parents for the weekend, a good move by the IHSAA to reward these families with tickets the entire weekend.
