Good luck to the 170lbers the finals. From what I was told Crary isn’t wrestling in the 3rd place match. So Fattore outscored opponents 34-0 and got 3rd. No matter what you think of the call that has got to be a first. Unscored upon.... and didn’t win

My first post of the year but I can not sit silent for this b s call. I was 25 ft away mat level. This type of officiating is what calls into question the integrity of officials in general. A ft wayne official making a redicullous call like this in favor of a wrestler from the ft semi state. PATHETIC at best. Get your scratch sheets ready. Any decent official wouldn't have made that call in a fees tyler match. He needs to be sat in front of this video and imbarassed.

If that's really your take.... I had same angle as ref I was middle of mat 2 during injury time. That particular ref should not get a sectional assignment in the future I know we will scratch him from this point on. No less than pathetic call

I think it's funny that you somehow make the stretch with this post that because they have a large number of great INDIVIDUAL wrestlers, that class wrestling clearly doesn't hurt Ohio. Did any of these guys join wrestling because it is classed? I don't think any single class proponents are saying class wrestling will "hurt" Indiana wrestling talent overall. However, it is up for debate whether or not it would promote and thereby increase the level of wrestling across the state by encouraging more small school kids to wrestle (because they now have a better percentage chance of getting a state championship without the big school guys in their brackets)

And yet after suggesting that class wrestling is a good thing, what do you do when you want to compare the state -- you take the best wrestlers from all classes as your example. In essence, you are presenting a single class list of Ohio wrestlers versus our single class.

I'm torn you have basiclly all Indiana champs getting throttled but the one you do have winning are Ec semi state kids plus Paris

upset?? lol... why would you assume I'm upset? my debate is that it's unfair to seed wrestlers ahead of others that have placed here based on another event. why would I have to be upset to believe that? it's by far the predominant standard of seeding

no I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that as it is at all elite events #1 criteria should be previous appearance at that event. it makes the seeding far more objective. in an earlier post it was mentioned that this format, which they just started last year, was to attract teams. doing that makes it far less objective and more subjective by adding variables to the process that have nothing to do with the al smith. so any other tournament as primary criteria is not only unfair to returning performers but also to the tournament itself. the state finish would be a good #2 criteria.

And why exactly was this postponed??? it may end up "postponed" again... This was an "open" holiday date Munster will have several unavailable including their head coach. very interested to know why this was cancelled on such short notice( 2 days). I'll be going to the conference supervisor and state comish about this as well.

Ahh the inevitable personal attack.  How predictable of you.

Here is one heck of a suggestion.

    1.  Recognize the elephant in the room:  The two meet qualifier was a knee jerk decision to try financially support the local clubs.  Improving in the international styles had nothing to do with the decision as evidenced by Waivergate.   Like most knee jerk decisions, there are unintended consequences. (Waivergate, Midweek Mayhem, Studapalooza).  The ISWA must admit to this poor decision before moving on.

Maybe I have an agenda, maybe I am just a troll, or maybe, just maybe, I actually work with kids in the room at the grass roots and know how these decisions have crippled freestyle.

Coach makes some excellent points. But I'd be very surprise if anyone's goal was to "hurt" the ISWA. The only way individuals that feel "wronged" by establishment of any kind, to voice their displeasure is through protest, in this case boycott. So while it's difficult to disagree with coach hull and the fact that the boycott path hurts the kids and Indiana wrestling first and foremost. History has shown absolutely that if your not prepared to step out of line for what you believe in, NOTHING will change. Least of all establishment. I was not really in favor of this "boycott" until the ISWA "process" hit me at home. And I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case with most, if not all, that are choosing this path. IMO it's the governing bodies responsibility to be flexible in these situations. And they have not been.

Here's a crazy idea... NO QUALIFICATION necessary for freestyle state. NONE. If the number one goal is truly to have the greatest number of kids compete in freestyle, why then are the kids and their families given any challenge at all when it's come to competing???? I don't think it's a stretch to say numbers at freestyle state would be very nearly equal to folkstyle state if no qualification was necessary. I've stayed away from getting involved in this since my kids were absolutely screwed by the ISWA not granting a waiver for their documented injuries. In the beginning, I wanted to give the ISWA an opportunity to do the right thing in granting injury wavier. It's very simple. We have doctor and PT documentation but still denied. And I'm supposed to respect that type of irresponsible leadership from our governing body??? It's pathetic. But, this is just my story, and my sons are only two Indiana wrestlers. But both want to have an opportunity to compete if they are physically able. From where I sit, it would appear to be a simple case of indifference. Granted, appearance can be deceiving, until it's consistent. And if nothing else it has been consistent. Allowing these "situational qualifiers" is nothing less than a slap in the face to those kids that have legitimate situations that don't allow them to compete or qualify.

So, PRAY TELL. What, EXACTLY, would be the worst case scenario of no qualifying for freestyle state???  And would it even approach this debacle?

Okay I've flip flopped a bit on this issue. But now I'm done with freestyle as far as the ISWA goes. And for good. And i'll recommend the same going forward. Both my sons had injuries at folkstyle state one shoulder another ankle. both were forced to stay home from cedar falls and both were also forced to miss scholastic duels opportunities in Crawfordsville this weekend. Neither has been released from the doctors care and are currently rehabbing. Even though neither may be ready by the first weekend in May I wrote the ISWA for a waiver given the fact that neither will have an opportunity to qualify due to their injuries. I was told NO. I have all the documentation needed from their doctors yet still NO. Two kids that want to compete and are physically unable to qualify yet cant get a waiver. No waiver even in the case of medical issues is unacceptable.

It shouldn't be this difficult to compete. Just avoid these ridiculous issues and forget that the ISWA has a freestyle event.

I had some severe back spasms going from my lower back all the way up to my neck. The spasms caused very intense pain and my back and neck "locked up". I owed it to the both Robbie Smith and Adam Coon to take myself out of the match. They have worked most of their lives to make the Olympic Team and I was not any where near being able to be my best.

The medical staff checked me for cardiac and stroke issues and they were right on top of it. When they were sure it wasn't something life threatening they took me to the training room. When the Iowa Wrestling Trainer examines you and says "Oh, you have a big problem here" you know something is wrong.

Once it was determined that I was going to live, my fellow referees made remarks such as "He couldn't have a heart attack, that is anatomically impossible. He doesn't have a heart." "We took a poll to see who was going to give you CPR and we stopped when were 0 for 7."  Which is exactly the kind of thing I would have said.

I'm ok now but will make an appointment with my Doctor very soon.

    Thanks for the concern.

The IHSAA winter sports meeting took place Thursday at Primo's in Indianapolis. Wrestling was a hot topic of conversation. Here are the results.

    1) Proposal to offer three classes was presented by Bobby Cox. The proposal involved reintroducing the team state series as well. No decision was made, but it is planned to be voted on at the May 23rd meeting.

    2) A consideration was brought up about weight cutting, with Alan Jackson proposing no wrestler be allowed to move more than one weight class above or below their weight on November 15th.

    3) The topic of singlets came up, and research will be done on the cost of switching to a more "basketball-like" uniform.

    4) Spladles, headlocks and jumping on the opponents back when he is getting up from the down position, trying to get a potentially dangerous call, have been outlawed effective immediately.

    5) Mater Dei wrestlers have to wrestle up one weight class automatically.

    6) The terms "get up", "be aggressive" and "don't reach back" have been banned for coaches and fans. If those phrases are audible, a team point will be deducted.

    7) Wrestlers requesting injury time will now be required to jump rope, or run in place while the trainer looks at them. This will prevent the injury timeouts used for catching one's breath.

    8) Fans who clap and yell just because a top wrestler throws the bottom guy back to the mat, resulting in no points at all, will be banned.

    9) Wrestling season will begin August 3rd and end August 2nd.

    10) Obviously I am bored and it's April Fool's Day. Of course none of this jibberish is true.
