  1. If you're disqualified for flagrant misconduct you're out of the tourney, even as an alternate. We turned in two alternates for each weight, so alternate number 2 (loser to weight class runner-up in the ticket round) would get the opening if one should happen.
  2. They don't need a new venue. There isn't a better one for the fans in NE indiana. They just need to get the mats away from the ice so they don't get hard.
  3. Adams Central (360 enrollment) had 2 state qualifiers. That's 11 straight years with a least one qualifier and 28 of the last 29 years. 1998 is the only year AC did not have a qualifier since 1980.
  4. This years set-up looked different to me. I thought that in past years the mats were placed on top of the removable basketball floor to give more "bounce." This year the mats were right on the insulation separating them from the ice. I have my share of senior moments (and I don't mean HS senior) and I may be remembering it wrong. It just looked different. On Matthew Gerber, the few times I've spoke to him he seems like a fine young man as are his cousins, the Fiechter brothers from Southern Wells. I'm glad Matthew was able to advance, but felt sorry for Troy and Darrin.
  5. That's a huge distance! It's only 125 miles or so from my house to Conseco. I'm guessing you don't live in the school district of any of the competing schools anymore, but if a school has to travel that far it does need to be moved.
  6. Chalfant pinned Janney in 1:29. West pinned Meyer in :41.
  7. It used to be the same as regional and semi-state. Coaches received a template for each weight class. They stopped handling out the template when they started posting the results online.
  8. these are the ones i got off results page and how many they sent to SS from the Jay County Regional (state qualifiers in bold) Yorktown- 10 6 Bellmont- 9 4 South Adams-7 3 Adam Central- 4 2 Winchester- 4 2 Bluffton- 4 2 Muncie Southside- 3 2 Southern Wells- 3 Blackford- 2 Muncie Central- 2 1 Delta- 2 1 Norwell- 2 Jay County- 2 1 Randolph Southern- 1 1 Wapahani- 1
  9. 37 through round 1, 25 qualified for state, and 8 champions Had to be the best regioanl coming into Fort Wayne
  10. I liked it. I think there were 4 regional fourths that made it out at FW. Only downside was that the first round seemed to take forever. It was 3 1/2 hours to complete.
  11. Barry Humble, New Haven, has been coaching since the 1970-1971 season at Adams Central, FW South, and New Haven. That would make this his 39th season by my figuring.
  12. I think the FW brackets will be updated live as the results are entered at: http://fwsemistate.com/
  13. I usually figure an hour and a half for a reguar dual meet. Each mat will have the equivalent of two dual meets in the first round and one in the second. That's 4 1/2 hours with no delays, so they may be a little pessimistic. They're probably figuring a lunch break before the semi-finals, too. I wouldn't be surprised if its at least 5 1/2 hours to get to the semis. Decbell - will you get to see any of the wrestling or will you be at a MS event all day?
  14. You ought to buy her a Belmont sweatshirt just to wear to semi-state and state
  15. Really? I'd never heard that before. The form tournaments turn into the IHSAA only has one alternate spot listed on it. I know because I'll be filling out the one for FWSS again this Saturday. How does the tournament verify that the correct wrestler is showing up as an alternate of the IHSAA doesn't have the information to provide to them? They can't just take the wrestler's or coaches word for it.
  16. 51 was the year I was born, not my age, but thanks.
  17. Thanks for making me feel ancient. If you're talking about Bruce Thieme he's only around 50. That's a young man, not old.
  18. There is an alternate for each weight from each regional. That alternate goes in as the number 4 seed from his regional. Ither seeded wrestlers move up one seed (4 to 3, 3 to 2) until the opening is filled. There's only 1 alternate, so if 2 wrestlers from the same weight and regional would not be able to participate there would be a forfeit at the #4 seed.
  19. Fabio - All the work you put in was just to "get lucky". I wouldn't have typed that, but you asked someone to tell you and you even said please. Other than that - How would they decide the seeding? It's not individuals with common opponents. Teams could use different line-ups common opponent results are meaningless. Ans everyone complains about the polls so they wouldn't want those used. There isn't a good way to seed teams.
  20. In most cases, no. It only matters of one of the place winners from that regional cannot participate on Saturday. Then the runner-up goes in as the fourth place finisher. There were three Delta Sectional place winners who did not wrestle at Jay County and that's a pretty high number. The alternates for two of the weight classes did not show, so a forfeit was awarded. The one wrestler who did appear is the one who is now the Semi-State alternate. He knew he was wrestling by mid-week.
  21. I posted earlier that the Jay County Sectional had a Sectional alternate who will also be the Semi-State alternate, just because he was inserted against the other Sectional champion, who also won the regional. I'm no in favor of wrestlebacks, but an alternate method does need to implemented at regional.
  22. Coach - How far are they off, just one or two matches? The rgional program could have been printed before they team regional was wrestled and your wrestlers could have had a couple of matches not shown in the program. That's the only explanation I could thin of. Oops. just checked and Warren Central wasn't in team regional, so that shoots that idea.
  23. The choice of the alternate was discussed and berated on another post, but at least one incident at Jay County today highlighted the need for either wrestle-backs or a different formula for determining the alternate. When Burke of Yorktown injured his knee this week the alternate went in as the 4 seed for the Delta sectional. He went in against the favorite, Trey Schultz, and was tech falled early in the second period. Trey went on to win the weight class, so now the alternate for semi-state at 171 is a wrestler who didn't qualify for regional on his own effort! The Jay County sectional swept the placements once Burke was gone, so now the only wretler with any chance of advancing from Delta is the fifth place finisher, not second, third, or fourth.
  24. Some good matches at Jay County: 119 Case Kenney, Jay County, decisions Derek Bevans, Yorktown 3-1 in OT 125 Andrew Hiestand, Yorktown, pins Troy Fiechter in 1:52 of the finals 130 Josh Ehr, South Adams, hits a 5-point Peterson to upset Darrin Fiechter of Southern Wells in the semis. Then, Darrin gets caught in a headlock with an 8-2 lead and gets pinned by Caleb Smith of Yorktown. Ehr fights off a late takedown attempt by Jared Schwartz of AC to will 4-2 140 Josh Martin, Randolph Southern, and Ben Theurer, Jay County score three reversals in the last minute with Martin getting the last one and the win 7-6 152 Kyle Mosier, Yorktown, pins Tyler baker in 1:43 160 Trent Busse, Bellmont, holds off Trent Castner, Yortown 5-2 285 Adam Chalfant, Winchester pins his way to the title. His longest match was 3:33 against Jim West, South Adams in the semis
