There is an alternate for each weight from each regional. That alternate goes in as the number 4 seed from his regional. Ither seeded wrestlers move up one seed (4 to 3, 3 to 2) until the opening is filled. There's only 1 alternate, so if 2 wrestlers from the same weight and regional would not be able to participate there would be a forfeit at the #4 seed.
-
Fabio - All the work you put in was just to "get lucky". I wouldn't have typed that, but you asked someone to tell you and you even said please.
Other than that - How would they decide the seeding? It's not individuals with common opponents. Teams could use different line-ups common opponent results are meaningless. Ans everyone complains about the polls so they wouldn't want those used. There isn't a good way to seed teams.
-
In most cases, no. It only matters of one of the place winners from that regional cannot participate on Saturday. Then the runner-up goes in as the fourth place finisher. There were three Delta Sectional place winners who did not wrestle at Jay County and that's a pretty high number. The alternates for two of the weight classes did not show, so a forfeit was awarded. The one wrestler who did appear is the one who is now the Semi-State alternate. He knew he was wrestling by mid-week.
-
I posted earlier that the Jay County Sectional had a Sectional alternate who will also be the Semi-State alternate, just because he was inserted against the other Sectional champion, who also won the regional. I'm no in favor of wrestlebacks, but an alternate method does need to implemented at regional.
-
Coach - How far are they off, just one or two matches? The rgional program could have been printed before they team regional was wrestled and your wrestlers could have had a couple of matches not shown in the program. That's the only explanation I could thin of.
Oops. just checked and Warren Central wasn't in team regional, so that shoots that idea.

The choice of the alternate was discussed and berated on another post, but at least one incident at Jay County today highlighted the need for either wrestle-backs or a different formula for determining the alternate. When Burke of Yorktown injured his knee this week the alternate went in as the 4 seed for the Delta sectional. He went in against the favorite, Trey Schultz, and was tech falled early in the second period. Trey went on to win the weight class, so now the alternate for semi-state at 171 is a wrestler who didn't qualify for regional on his own effort! The Jay County sectional swept the placements once Burke was gone, so now the only wretler with any chance of advancing from Delta is the fifth place finisher, not second, third, or fourth.

Some good matches at Jay County:
119 Case Kenney, Jay County, decisions Derek Bevans, Yorktown 3-1 in OT
125 Andrew Hiestand, Yorktown, pins Troy Fiechter in 1:52 of the finals
130 Josh Ehr, South Adams, hits a 5-point Peterson to upset Darrin Fiechter of Southern Wells in the semis. Then, Darrin gets caught in a headlock with an 8-2 lead and gets pinned by Caleb Smith of Yorktown. Ehr fights off a late takedown attempt by Jared Schwartz of AC to will 4-2
140 Josh Martin, Randolph Southern, and Ben Theurer, Jay County score three reversals in the last minute with Martin getting the last one and the win 7-6
152 Kyle Mosier, Yorktown, pins Tyler baker in 1:43
160 Trent Busse, Bellmont, holds off Trent Castner, Yortown 5-2
285 Adam Chalfant, Winchester pins his way to the title. His longest match was 3:33 against Jim West, South Adams in the semis

the only alternate i've heard about is 171. with burke out all of the delta entries will mov up a slot and the alternate gets schultz.
-
From what i understand it's like the altrernate for state. The wrestler who loses in the first round to the weight class champion is the alternate for semi-state.
-
Their scorekeeper told me he injured his knee. I asked if he'd wrestle Saturday, but was told he is done for the year. Nothing is definite until he is scratched Saturday, but that's what I was told.
-
That's true. I think I remember a situation like that several years ago when 4 sectionals fed into regional and only two advanced out of regional. The two best wrestlers in the weight class would have been on the same side of the bracket, but one knew it took an injury default in the sectional finals to avoid a semi-finals match up. That may have been when the match up became sealed until after the end of wrestling.
-
I'm sure they will, but they'll only cover the Bellmont match. If Yorktown wins I doubt that they'll cover the championship match.
-
Nope. This year 4 advance to semi-state. There's no bye for the champions.
-
You are out. No wrestle backs yet, but win the first match and you've gained another week of wrestling.
-
The IHSAA will issue a template to all regionals showing the brackets. A first place will wrestle a 4th place and seconds and thirds will go against each other in the first round. The bracket could look like:
1A vs 4D
2C vs 3B
3C vs 2B
4A vs 1D
1B vs 4C
2A vs 3D
3D vs 2C
4B vs 1C
But the template is different for each weight class. It's random as far as I know.

Leroy - I hadn't heard anything about Nick's illness until yesterday at the Jay County Sectional. Beau told me about it at a break. I used to play softball with a friend who had Crohn's so I know its possible to participate in sports with the disease. My friend wasn't diagnosed until he was over 30, but his health improved immediately just by learning to control his diet. I know Nick will be competing full tilt next year. I'll look forward to seeding him second at the Jet Invitational next year (Sorry, AC will be seeded #1). - Phil

#1 way to piss off Bellmont people, spell Bellmont with one "L"
I've always wanted to spell it Belllmont since AC has been trying to give them L (mostly unsuccessfully) for years.

I'm surprised Joe Willman hasn't posted the Crown Point brackets. He was an active poster on the IHSWCA site, but maybe he hasn't found this site yet.

The regionals at Goshen (I think) we're delayed one year by weather. I remember talking to the father of one of the Wawasee wrestlers at Snider. He came to watch our regional since theirs wasn't running. They held the regional during the week. I'm guessing they'd have to do the same thing if any sectionals can't run on Saturday. Have the individual sectional on Monday or Tuesday and maybe potponed the team regional until Thursday.

If Bultemeier wrestles which place will he go in at. I know he can't take Thatchers #3 seed, but not sure if he goes in at #5, 6, or one of the unseeded spots. If he's number #5 that's bad news for White. He could go to sectional as a 3 or 4 place instead of 1 or 2.

Thanks for making me feel ancient. If you're talking about Bruce Thieme he's only around 50. That's a young man, not old.
