  1. Sean has always taken a special interest in helping the "younger" kids at CIA, one being my son, Jake. His patience and personality with the kids are unbelievable. He will be a great coach one day and I want to congratulate Sean and his family! Good luck! :) :)
  2. Coach P: Jake says "Go IRISH! At least Coach P won't be talking up the Michigan softball/baseball teams anymore, he can talk about their terrible football team". LOL... (You had to know this was coming! haha)
  3. Nate is starting both ways; DE and FB...a monster on the football field...he'll have to choose between wrestling and football in college for sure! If you have never seen him play, you are missing out, a total maniac out there!
  4. The Cupboard is never bare at Lowell, my good friend. We have a great Head Coach and a few kids that will surprise some folks this season! We may take our lumps for 1-2 years in varsity dual meets but rest assured, the storm is brewing for the future! LOL...stay tuned, you will not be disappointed. :)
  5. You are right, RegionRat...pretty happy with that performance Friday night! Y2 has been on my FACEBOOK home page! haha We have many wrestlers that play football in Lowell, one two-way starter is Nate Cleveland, a beast! The Town of Lowell is football crazy and you can see the tumbleweeds moving down through the subdivisions on Friday nights because it's vacant around here----the WHOLE town attends the football games! Coach Joe Willmann, our Head wrestling coach, is the professional video man on top of the booth...we load up and head out to the away games together and hit HOOTERS on the way home...like clockwork. LIVING the DREAM, my man! (...but still anxious for wrestling to start up---no denying that!)
  6. Nice Post, Bedoy! Couldn't agree more...
  7. Y2, I would be in favor of such a system, that looks great!
  8. Absolutely! People don't understand how much time it takes to compile and formulate these data lists, etc. I would gladly pay 1-5 bucks per year for rankings! As long as there is integrity in the system and the program, I have NO PROBLEM paying for what many of us take for granted! --Coach Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
  9. Infolady: You are correct; the only issue I have with pools is...if you are 2nd in your pool, you go for 3rd and 4th for the entire bracket (and this wrestler could be clearly the 2nd best wrestler in the total bracket)...with no pools, true positions are achieved...albeit with added time to the tournament for the extra matches. There are downfalls to just about every bracketing system unless seeding is allowed in a line-bracket format where you can wrestle off for a true 2nd place....to me, that's the closest you'll get to having "less" gripes. The seeding would have to come from results earned at a qualifier, i.e. "wrestler A" wins the qualifier and he is seeded 1st and so on; in my experience with seeding meetings, it works 1/2 the time but someone is always slighted so determining seeds through a wrestler's accomplishment is always preferred. In reference to match placings on designated mats, etc. it is a good idea but extremely difficult to pull off with vertical pairing. Something to ponder though...
  10. Brandi: You are correct and I agree with ya about the sectional/regional issue BUT...you had better get ready for it because it's coming real soon for Tommy and Jake among others...and what do I mean by that? It's called the IHSAA...no getting around it there! LOL... :)
  11. Good luck, Mr. Bedoy! Go get'em! Leroy attacks recruiting like he did opponents at Minnesota! :) http://nwitimes.com/sports/local/article_a3571829-247c-5588-9257-05c2fe2bd55a.html
  12. I like the idea of having a podium, etc. for the top 8...the difficulty would be...trying to keep everyone there so you can have them up on the podium for a picture, etc. Illinois has sectionals, regionals, etc. for their state series as well as Ohio and other states. This is going to take some major communication, cooperation, and coordination here in Indiana to get this going IF that's what the ISWA wants to move toward. Personally, I prefer it over the current system because it mirrors the high school format and the only kids that get to state are the ones that have qualified and earned it through the various stages or tournaments. Instead of having 30, 40, or 50 kids in a bracket for state, you would have the top 16 or 24... The one aspect about the IKWF system that I don't care for is the "A" and "B" champion for Novices and below...I think there should be ONE champ for each weight class/division but now we are opening up the whole can of worms about class wrestling, etc. :) :)
  13. Old and fat is right! He has already challenged me to an eating contest!!!??? Lance, you have no idea what FAT is...LOL.
  14. I agree with Fearless, I am not a huge fan of changing but if it does change, I choose "B". Re: Wildcatcountry97 You are correct about the 103lb weight class...there is no denying it, year-in, year-out, it is by far the youngest bracket at state...and across the country. Winning a state title at 103lbs is an awesome achievement but 103lbs is not typically loaded up like 112, 119, 125, and so on. (especially with upperclassmen) This, by no means, is saying that the wrestlers at 103lbs are not great wrestlers...it only points to the depth and age of higher weight classes.
  15. I know in Nathan's (Cleveland) case, freestyle really took him out of his comfort zone which is why he decided to wrestle, he has been a folkstyler for years (and a very good one) so I commend him on wrestling both Greco/Freestyle because it will only make him better down the road. I am sure it was the case with Lentz as well. I believe both are outstanding football players and balancing the football workouts, etc. with freestyle in the Spring has been a challenge I am sure but both will be very successful in the future and I wish them both all the best.
  16. We have gone the last 4 years and it has steadily grown in numbers every year; last year they had 800 participants and I know they are hoping for over 1,000 this year. Quite a few studs there, a lot of Purler Academy kids have shown up in the past. We will be wrestling there again this year; after the weigh-ins, I highly recommend the HOOTERS in Bloomington...tremendous attractions!
  17. Y2, I gotta tell ya, you did a great job!!! Nice work!!!
  18. Congrats Chad! Good luck at the next level! Leroy attacks recruiting like he attacked opponents on the mat!! http://www.ccsj.edu/athletics/wrestling/index.html
  19. http://intermatwrestle.com/rankings/recruiting/senior Brandon: #28 Sean: #69 Sammy: #80 Frankie: #96 Congrats! I didn't see any other Indiana Seniors listed...
  20. I always thought it was illegal until I viewed the USA Olympic Greco highlight video on YouTube several months back and saw 1 or 2 powerbombs like that being utilized in the last Olympics. I remember thinking to myself after I saw it, "Is that legal?" I totally understand what you are inquiring about, I am curious too! Personal opinion: Absolutely NO! It should NOT be legal!
  21. Congrats to Lowell's Kenny Hughes for earning the trophy for Best Mental Attitude at the Prime Time Camp. Kenny is definitely one kid that every coach wants in their room! His work ethic and leadership are outstanding!
  22. I want to take this opportunity to thank Coach "Peck", Coach Dulaney, and Coach McCormick along with the many high school counselors at the PRIME TIME camp! Jake (Tucker) had a fantastic experience and all of the Lowell boys really gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and information from your camp. Coach Willmann assured us that it would be one of the best camps to attend and he was correct. The group photo, individual report card, and technique packet was great! Thanks and we'll be back next year! --Coach Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
  23. Hanover grad Howe headed overseas to wrestle StoryDiscussionFont Size:Default font sizeLarger font sizeBY BRIAN WADDLE Times Correspondent | Tuesday, June 02, 2009 | (No comments posted.) Andrew Howe was named to US Jr. Olympic team NWI Photo Store The only thing Andrew Howe knows about turkey is you can eat it hot or cold. Soon, he'll be finding out more about Turkey -- as in the country. Howe, a Hanover Central product, recently captured the 163-pound weight class at the FILA Junior World Team Trials. The University of Wisconsin standout will represent the U.S. in August when the team competes in the Junior World Championships in Ankara, Turkey. "It's something I really wanted to do. The Junior Worlds are looked at pretty highly, and I want to go to Turkey and win," Howe said.
