  7. Congratulations Anthony! A great choice!! Coach Vega will provide you with an opportunity for a great education, a great room to train in, and a chance for you to become an NAIA National Champion! All with a great scholarship opportunity to boot...sounds AWESOME!!!!! (not to mention close to home where your old man can still give you a hard time!!! LOL) --Coach Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
  8. Lowell Middle School is doing well so far this season at 4-0 but with 22 weight classes (we added 215lbs this season) there are a lot of weights to fill; we are lucky to have 60 wrestlers out this year so we are a complete team. The upper weights are filled by football linemen who I coaxed into coming out. Out of the 22 weight classes, we have nearly 1/2 of the team who were state champs or state placers at one time or another in the ISWA. We were undefeated last season and we'll see if we can work hard enough to do it again? One thing is for sure...Coach Willmann's future varsity teams will be very good...it'll be up to the kids on how far they want to go? A lot of these boys have been together since they were 4, 5 or 6 years old. Our club is enormous now, so many little tykes throughout the ranks, Coach Willmann and others have done a fantastic job of promoting the sport in our area.
  9. Lowell Middle School 80 Griffith Middle School 37 LMS 4-0 in duals.
  10. Lowell 93 Hobart 30 Lowell 72 Merrillville 51
  11. Way to go Lowell Middle School wrestlers! Off to a 2-0 start with wins over Hobart and Merrillville! Lowell 93 Hobart 30 Lowell 72 Merrillville 51 Nice job!
  12. 10 middle school teams participated at Lake Central High School on Saturday; Hobart, Lake Central (Clark, Grimmer, Kahler), Griffith, Merrillville, Portage (Willowcreek), Crown Point (Wheeler), Calumet (Lake Ridge), and Lowell. Congrats to A.D. Brooks for running a very good tournament and a special thanks to Bill Hawkins of CIA along with his assistants on a great day of wrestling! Also, thanks to Alex Tsirtsis for putting on a clinic before the tournament started. No team score was kept. We (Lowell) had 11 individual champions, 15 in the finals; the tourney was blocked weight classes. Champions (7th graders) Drew Hughes Brandon Arena Jake Tucker Deion Komosa Dakota Nichols Trevor Asher (8th graders) Derek Pearman Clark Smith Josh Bottos Alex Mavros Kenny Hughes --Coach Shane Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
  13. ...was at CIA tonight, lots of boys growing! Darden Schurg is huge and muscled! I think he's 92 or 93lbs now...and the Crary boys looked real tough! I heard that Blake Rypel has jumped up big time in size!?
  14. Coach Willmann, your work and cooperation with this meet along with the coaching staff and administration at PURDUE is to be commended! Great job, Coach! I have advised a lot of the kids on the middle school team and in the club over the weekend and they are JACKED UP about this! They can't wait to see some of their heros in the flesh! WAY TO GO, COACH WILLMANN!!!! :) :)
  15. Indiana Department of Eduction (IDOE) cut-off for the current 8th grade class was June 1st. In essence, this means that these kids are Legitimate 8th graders i.e. not held back, just normal kids who enrolled in school when they started as little tykes and now are in 8th grade.
  16. Y2, you should never enter/exit da region without getting Willmann to buy you Hooters!
  17. Thanks!!! The TIMES did a nice job!! http://www.nwitimes.com/sports/local/article_3de52687-0f69-543b-a17a-53398434304d.html
  18. Coach McCormick: Your decision to abide by the Department of Education (DOE) age guidelines for 8th graders (June 1st) is to be commended... Coach Peck is correct, it is your tournament, you can choose any criteria you want...but I know you are always looking for a fair and equitable solution to any problem. With that said, it only makes sense to choose the DOE guidelines because it provides a "ready made" cut-off for the middle schoolers. The cut-off for this current 8th grade class in Indiana was June 1st. (back when they started school) I agree that there will always be people who are upset with a chosen cut-off; the key here is..."the kids"...and I feel that you are really wanting what's best for them regardless of how the parents feel, etc. Thanks for looking into this issue and researching the DOE dates for all of the current grades in middle school. ---Coach Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
  19. Coach Hughes, I understand your point and you have a right to be upset...we have two quality wrestlers who have never been held back or flunked and are "true" 8th graders but will not be able to participate? I do know that Coach McCormick is a very reasonable coach and will take this under advisement and perhaps take a 2nd look at this and decide to do what is right for the kids...it is never too late "to do the right thing". When these boys started school the cut-off was different so now they are penalized for it? Think about it, you are a kid who started school, advanced through the grades every year just like everyone else and all of sudden you want to attend a team tournament as an 8th grader with your classmates and you can't because of this???? Coach McCormick, I know you can reconsider this and come up with a viable solution. --Coach Tucker, Lowell Wrestling
