  1. Sorry, but that is a question that the IHSAA has to answer (or another knowledgeable coach), as we don't get any info on that topic Chuck Barnett, IHSAA 009350
  2. I guess I’d preface it with the standard referee’s answer... “it’s usually not a black and white answer and I’d have to see the particular match/situation to comment” That being said, the question would be was he neutral and could he defend? Note: this response was typed from a cold deer stand Chuck Barnett, IHSAA Interpreter
  3. Open book test, Part I test, with no time limitation, and you are required to score 75% to become licensed. 100 questions. To renew every year you only need to pay your annual dues of $67. If, however, you apply for the sectional, you need to take the Part II test every year in December and score at least 90%. It is also 100 questions. Chuck Barnett IHSAA #009350
  4. By application, that is not illegal. There are, however, several things that you could do to make it illegal
  5. Terre Haute North new coach = Beau Pingleton
  6. Northview new head coach = Tony Sanabria
  7. Only seven teams wrestled: St. Louis Suicide Squad McCutcheon Jeff BC combined Whiteland Decatur central Fishers Lafayette Harrison
  8. 10 teams so far. There were 12, but a couple cancelled
  9. No, not college out of bounds. At least not yet. I do think that they are moving that direction, though. Also, keep in mind that the rule changes that the NFHS passed are still subject to IHSAA adoption. They more than likely will be adopted as written, but they dont necessarily have to be. Case in point the gray shirts for refs... they were allowed by the NFHS 3-4 years before the ISHSAA approved them.
  10. According to Asst. Commissioner Faulkens, they are working on a case book explanation now. The new rule allows for an offensive and defensive fall.
  11. Shoulders or scapula of the offensive wrestler? The committee approved two changes in Rule 5-11 related to falls and near falls. In 5-11-1, the shoulders or scapula of the offensive wrestler no longer must be inbounds to earn a fall. The committee agreed that wrestling should continue if the offensive wrestler’s supporting parts remain inbounds and no body part of the defensive wrestler goes off the mat. In 5-11-5, “unless any part of the shoulders or both scapulae of the defensive wrestler is inbounds” was eliminated. If wrestling is continuing during a match, near falls and falls will be awarded/earned regardless of the out-of-bounds line.
  12. Casebook: Page 87 Section 6 Stalling 5-H In the advantage position, it is stalling when staying behind your opponent while on your feet, making no attempt to bring the opponent to the mat
  13. Per my conversation with Assistant Commissioner Sandra Walter, they no longer offer probationary licenses, so you must be at least 18 years old AND out of high school.
  14. Evansville Mater Dei 33, Hobart 30 103 -- Manuel Rodriguez (H) dec. Bob Ausbrooks (EMD), 2-1. 112 -- Ryan Storey (H) dec. Matt Adler (EMD), 8-3. 119 -- Alexander Ramos (H) dec. Eli Todich (EMD), 22-5, disqualification, 5:58. 125 -- Wes Goodpaster (H) pinned Mike Conkling (EMD), 2:19. 130 -- Chad Martin (EMD) dec. Josh Felty (H), 9-7. 135 -- Chad Raben (EMD), Rick Rayner (H), 2-1. 140 -- Neil Reddington (EMD) pinned John Felty (H), 3:21. 145 -- Frank DeBusk (H) pinned Dan Jankowski (EMD), 1:10. 152 -- Joe Hurst (H) pinned Eric Dewig (EMD), 4:49. 160 -- Nick Miller (EMD) dec. John Cantu (H), 8-3. 171 -- Tony Unfried (EMD) dec. Nicholas Benzce (H), 6-5. 189 -- Ryan King (EMD) dec. Dustin Weber (H), 9-5. 215 -- Kevin Alvey (EMD) pinned John Walsh (H), 1:21. 275 -- David Hisch (EMD) pinned Trent Overturf (H), 3:21.
  15. Keep in mind that the IHSAA offers 240 scholarships per year for first year officials, so the $50 licensing fee can be waived. Each association (24 in all) get 10 scholarships each, and for each of the past 3 seasons only about 1/2 are getting used. Once mid August comes around the unused scholarships come back in to the pool and can be used by any of the associations. You can contact your local association to get on their list, and if they dont have any left you can contact me after mid August and I will hook you up. I used 27 total last year... 21 for wrestling officials. Chuck Barnett, IHSAA 009350 Secretary, Calumet Association mr_charlie_man@yahoo.com
  16. Lowell is back in, and I believe that Merrillville is sending their B Varsity. The only two Lake County teams not in are Crown Point and Hammond Morton. Wheeler is in Porter County, but has been in the past few years.
  17. Best of luck to Mr. Stewart and the Cathedral wrestling community. The injury was devastating and certainly took the steam out of the dual meet. The decision to forfeit the remainder of the match and attend to the needs of the injured wrestler, as well as the rest of the team was the right one and was agreed upon by all parties, including the officials, Coach Vega and Portage wrestling, and the meet management. The reaction by the Cathedral Team was a testimony to their true family spirit!
  18. Curt Crouch, Delta... toughest wrestler on the Ft Wayne PD
  19. Almost none of the Indiana middle schools are sanctioned by the IHSAA, and therefore the uniform requirements in the NFHS rule book due not have to be adhered to in the same manner as they do at the high school level. Several Middle Schools that I have officiated for have used them, and I have had no issue with them as long as they do not present a hazard to either wrestler. It's something that the officials should, and will, discuss at their association meetings this sumemer/fall.
  20. http://www.layindownroots.com/blog/shorts-in-the-snow-the-legend-of-coach-foster A tough dude, to say the least! RIP Bob
  21. Nice kid... ran great at IU
