    For the third consecutive season, the Mudflap has got his dirty paws on the state finals draws and is willing to release a sneak preview to tide all you boringly coiffed commoners over until 5pm... But you'll have to ask nicely.. I'll be releasing hints throughout the afternoon. Here's the first hint... Roses are RED. violets are FREE, and under the lights this 132 final you will SEE.     Where in my post did I "sing his praises"? That certainly was not my intention. I feel Purdue replaced one incapable staff with a new incapable one and hoped they would go after a "sure thing" like Guerrero, Henson, Pritzlaff, etc. rather than take a chance on someone much less qualified, which I think it's hard to argue that Ersland is much less qualified than a lot of other available candidates. That is all.

    Wow, been waiting patiently through the hiring process, but Purdue has really outdone themselves.. Absolutely awful hire. You had Eric Guerrero interested, West Virginia just hired Sammy Henson, Donny Pritzlaff on the move, etc. There's no reason Purdue, a B1G school, can't land a quality name. Scott Hinkel was an All-American 1x, Chris Fleeger was an All-American 3x.. Tony Ersland, guess how many times? NONE None of the high school kids he's going to try to recruit will have ever heard of him, nor seen him wrestle. This is a huge problem! Going to wait until they announce the rest of the staff, but at least Fleeger had a relevant-enough name to get in the door with a lot of these high school kids who have at least heard of him or watched him wrestle. Not to mention, I'm extremely put-off by the press release that Purdue put out which gives Ersland credit for the international success of Jordan Burroughs and Jake Herbert. Burroughs himself has given credit in Flo interviews to Mark Manning, Bryan Snyder, and Zeke Jones. I've never heard Ersland's name mentioned, nor is he in any of the Olympic footage, or any of the footage from the most recent Burroughs World Title. Herbert was an old NYAC guy with Bormet, Pritzlaff, Hrovat, etc. Nowhere in any Jake Herbert international matches have I ever seen Ersland in the corner. Way to go Calvin and Morgan, you've ensured that you will be a B1G doormat for years to come..

    But yet John Cook and TomCat Miller wouldn't let Indiana's best wrestlers pick what team they wanted to be on because they wanted to see Indiana "win a national championship". Some national championship this is... They should call it the "Good Ole' Boys Money-Makin' Classic".

    He was also pinned by Sam Brancale, who failed to qualify for NCAA's, and Gilman himself was a paying customer in OKC. Stevan is great, but let's allow him to make his own name before we declare him NCAA Champion is all I'm saying.. Also, by all accounts, Freestyle is Stevan's best and favorite style (MCKAJC even made a post this preseason questioning whether Stevan would even wrestle the HS season). The 5-0, 5-0 loss to Gilman and the loss by fall to Peters in Stevan's best style don't translate all that well to the college game, which is wrestled in a style that RWA insiders like MCKAJC allude Stevan is less interested in.

    Have a hard time believing Micic is taking down Jesse Delgado. Didn't Iowa backup Thomas Gilman beat him 5-0, 5-0 and Northern Iowa's Dylan Peters pinned him. Those guys are tough, but a far cry from Jesse Delgado, Nahshon Garrett, Nico Megaludis, etc.

    And I believe the way to get the top Indiana HS kids to want to go to Purdue and IU is to clean house at both places.. Fire Larry and fire Duane. Start fresh, and sell these kids on the "rebirth of Purdue and IU wrestling"

    Your point is a good one, and by no means have I said that Indiana HS kids are OBLIGATED to do anything. My argument is that Purdue and IU need to make things attractive enough so that our top Indiana HS kids don't want to leave the state for greener pastures. I echo your sentiments 100%.

    Pennsylvania has twice the population of Indiana, but gets 9x the NCAA qualifiers. This isn't as simple as "Pennsylvania's population is larger than Indiana's".

    I always find this interesting.. 63 of the 330 NCAA qualifiers grew up wrestling in Pennsylvania. 19.1% of the total qualifier pool By comparison, only 7 from Indiana or 2.1% of the total qualifier pool.

    Was surprised to see Sabatello get in over Jesse Thielke of Wisconsin. Thielke finished his year with a record of 20-13, Sabatello was 22-12. Additionally, Thielke destroyed Sabatello by major decision 18-6 in the 7th place match at B10's.

    Why is my identity relevant? A lot of people share my same frustrations. Obviously you are blinded by the fact that you go to BoilerElite and idolize their coaching staff because they spend time with unknownwrestler junior.

    I'm not affiliated with either program. Never been a coach at either program, but have donated money to both in the last 5 years and have spoken to both Coach Hinkel and Coach Goldman personally about the direction of their programs.

    I don't see a single B10 talent in Purdue's incoming class. Some quality Indiana/Illinois High School guys, but nobody who is going to be knocking down the door to be an All-American for at least the first 3 or 4 years. IU's class is better, but still not great. 3 top 20 nationally ranked guys is a respectable class, however. Danishek could make an immediate impact, and Fletcher Miller has had national success in Fargo. Weaver is a 3x Michigan champ.

    I don't think it's too much to ask for both teams to have a couple (2 or 3) All-Americans per year and finish in the top half of their conference each year and start knocking on the door of the top 15 or 20 at NCAA's

    Here's a little comparison.. Everyone wants to come on here and support Purdue and Coach Hinkel, but nobody seems to ever want to come to the aid of Duane Goldman, but when you look at it objectively, the situation at Purdue is actually much worse than IU's. Indiana has had 16 All-Americans in the past 10 years with 2012 and 2013 the only years without one. Purdue has had just 7 All-Americans in that same time span with none in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012. Less than half the All-Americans over Reyes' final two seasons and Hinkel's first 8 as Head Coach. Time for a change!

    As a Purdue and IU wrestling fan, I'm tired of watching them beat their heads against the wall doing the same thing year after year with no success. Duane has been at IU for 22 years!!! Hinkel has been at Purdue for 22 years!!! Enough is enough! If nothing else, a new coach at both places would garner a little excitement, a national coaching search, get people talking about who it's going to be, the programs can sell it as the "rebirth of Indiana and Purdue wrestling". We need something to change. These programs are stale, and they're going nowhere and have gone nowhere for the last 22 years each.
