  1. The topic of great coaching comes up all year long, and we certainly have some great coaches here in Indiana. I thought I'd do a little research to see just how big of an advantage it is to have one of the top coaches in your corner on Friday night. I used the "Team History" section of IndianaMat, and cross referenced it with the IndianaMat "Coaches" pages for each school. While some of the data is incomplete, it can give us a pretty good picture of how our top coaches have fared on Friday night, and begin to answer the question of Leroy Vega or Darrick Snyder? Brad Harper or Bob Harmon? Tom Miller or Greg Schaefer? etc. Also will help us answer how coaches stack up historically. Below were coaches who stuck out to me. Feel free to comment below and add your favorite head coach... Sean McGinley- Cathedral 48-9 on Friday Night (.842 win pct) and 5 state champions in 10 seasons of data Dan Gelarden- Munster 12-3 on Friday Night (.800 win pct.) and 2 state champions in 12 seasons Brett Crousore- Lawrence North 31-8 on Friday Night (.795 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 6 seasons of data Nick Petrov- Hanover Central 19-5 on Friday Night (.792 win pct) and 7 state champions in 10 seasons David Maldonado- Merrillville 48-17 on Friday Night (.738 win pct.) and 9 state champions in 13 seasons Darrick Snyder- Brownsburg/Mishawaka 43-18 on Friday Night (.705 win pct.) and 9 state champions in 12 seasons Jim Tonte- Warren Central/Perry Meridian 65-28 on Friday Night (.699 win pct.) and 12 state champions in 18 seasons Chris Cooper- Columbus East 9-4 on Friday Night (.692 win pct.) and 0 state champions in 13 seasons Don Patton- Delta 33-15 on Friday Night (.688 win pct.) and 13 state champions in 9 seasons of data Bill Kelly- East Chicago Central 17-10 on Friday Night (.630 win pct.) and 3 state champions in 11 seasons Brian Seltzer- LN/Elkhart Memorial 25-15 on Friday Night (.625 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 17 seasons Bobby Howard- Lowell 8-5 on Friday Night (.615 win pct.) and 4 state champions in 5 seasons Greg Schaefer- Evansville Mater Dei 25-16 on Friday Night (.610 win pct.) and 2 state champions in 8 seasons Brent Faurote- Bellmont 67-49 on Friday Night (.578 win pct.) and 7 state champions in 27 seasons Bill Flatt- SB Riley 12-9 on Friday Night (.571 win pct.) and 1 state champion in 17 seasons Bob Hasseman- Franklin 37-28 on Friday Night (.569 win pct.) and 4 state champions in 30 seasons Ed Pendoski- Carmel/Portage 33-25 on Friday Night (.569 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 12 seasons Mike Goebel- Evansville Mater Dei 102-81 on Friday Night (.557 win pct.) and 22 state champions in 29 seasons Tony Abbott- Muncie Southside 17-14 on Friday Night (.548 win pct.) and 1 state champion in 17 seasons Trent McCormick- Yorktown 50-42 on Friday Night (.543 win pct.) and 3 state champions in 28 seasons Steve Balash- Hobart 32-28 on Friday Night (.533 win pct.) and 8 state champions in 30 seasons Robert Emerick- Lake Central 25-22 on Friday Night (.532 win pct.) and 6 state champions in 27 seasons T. 2. Kid has the best mullet I've seen in a long time. Quite a neck warmer he's got. Pretty good slide-by from neutral also
  3. Appreciate the shoutout to the Mudflap in the EC Hangout! See you Saturday guys.
  4. If only everyone was so welcoming. The Region crowd is normally pretty rude to us Logansport folk
  5. I'll stick to Logansport, but I'm actually a big fan of what Portage is doing.
  6. I think you can make excuses for each one of those situations or you can look at it from the perspective of "did they meet their individual goals?" Poynter was wrestling like a medalist with a win over Triana and a runner-up finish at semi-state and he'd beaten Mejia previously and failed to get a medal. Cornejo was wrestling like a medalist being the only one all year to not be pinned by Hughes and his runner-up finish at semi-state and he failed to get a medal. Murillo was facing a guy he had beaten earlier in the year on Friday night and failed to get a medal. Bam was looking like the champ all year, coming off a runner-up finish at state and didn't get the job done. Torres was coming off a runner-up finish in the state the year before and looking for a title and didn't get it done. Rumph had a nice win Friday over Molloy in a match he wasn't favored in. I'd say he overperformed. McIntosh had a nice win in the semis over Vaughn to get into the title match. I'd say he overperformed. I'd say 2 of 7 left Bankers Life happy. That's an under-performance in my book and far from "dialed in".
  7. I don't know how "dialed in" they were at state. Poynter lost to Mejia Friday night. Cornejo lost. Bam Lawrence lost in the finals to a guy he had beaten previously. Gaige Torres didn't finish what he set out to do, which was win a title. I'd say Rumph and McIntosh had nice tournaments, but Portage overall had a very disappointing State Finals.
  8. Well, he's already lost this season to the Regional 4th placer he has first round and he's already been majored this season by his likely ticket round opponent... 12/03/2016 vs. LaPorte 182 Joshua Bohling (LaPorte) over S. Jones (Lafayette Jefferson) (Dec 4-1) 12/03/2016 vs. Merrillville 182 Varsity - Tyjonn Lockett (Merrillville) over S. Jones (Lafayette Jefferson) (MD 13-5)
  9. Hello Ladies and Gents, The Mudflap is back! It's time for one of my favorite posts of the year. What is the over/under for Logansport Regional State Qualifiers? Every year we go up North for the Semi-State and are treated to rude Region fans, hard cross-faces, bad neighborhoods, and a very short Saturday. We were hoping that the shift in venue from Merrillville to East Chicago would improve our luck, but it seems the Region kids have an even larger advantage from breathing in the poor air quality of the steel mills. It's almost like training at altitude out in Colorado. That's the only explanation I can give. I'll set the Over/Under at 5 Logansport Regional SQ. (Ryne Webb, Clay Jones, Miles Krintz, Donnie Crider, Kelon Williams) Let's hear your thoughts. Who should keep the bus running Saturday at EC?
  10. Finally North Montgomery gets the love they deserve. #FireDane
  11. The IHSAA press release managed to get both Chad Red's career record and Lance Ellis' career record wrong.
  12. Hooters at 2pm EST Friday for the Mudflap and his crew. Come say hi, I'll be the one with the mullet and the tuxedo.
  13. Wrong Laughlin sportsfan. Lee and Brad Laughlin of Yorktown on the same side is who we are talking about.
  14. Who am I kidding? There's other tough ones... Glogouski and Luigs Holmes and DeLaPena
  15. How about the Friday night match of the night before the IHSAA steals my thunder.. It's coming at 152... Elijah Dunn. Brett Johnson. No rhyme necessary.
  16. At 160, it looks tough for the Artesian. In order to make the finals, gonna have to get thru Da Region.
  17. If you are Ricky Samuels, you should have a nice ride, number 1 and number 2 are on the same side.
  18. Lil brother Joe wants a title, that's easy to see, in the semis at 145... Laughlin and Lee.
  19. Unless your name is Streck you don't have a chance. Galligar and Samuels in the semis, winner will participate in the Purple Hulks final dance.
  20. Feel free to make a request.. I like money but I like shaved ice the best.
