I do not think it will happen, as I believe the last match was the anomaly, but let's say DT wins something vicious... maybe a 12-2 Tech?
Does Yazdani then consider 97 KG and Ghasempour make the drop for 2024?
I am of the mind that he would succeed at whatever weight he goes. He has one generational talent to deal with at 86 KG rather than two at 97 KG is the largest difference.
FTR - I believe it ends up being a 4-3/3-3 type match with one person getting a TD and that person winning. I will go DT because of homerisms, but I would not bet on this match.
Edit: You could add two points to the victor on an errant last second failed TD attempt that gets countered - similar to 2021 Worlds.
I am with you there.
Luckily Iran has done quite well at U20, U23, and Seniors. I am sure a quality team will come together, if you guys get the VISA situation sorted.
Does this mean South us headed down to 165 as well?
If so then their lineup is instantly better.
South may not AA, but he is more suited for 165 than 174.
As for Washington? He becomes an immediate low AA contender. At 184 he was going to fight tooth and nail for a R16 or R12 finish in a peak performance scenario.
I hope we see the #1 Iran squad.
I believe the US squad fully depends on the lineup you gents roll out.
David Taylor was on FRL last week and kind of skated around answering if he would or would not be at the World Cup as well.
I think Zahid beats anyone else you guys throw out at 86 KG aside for Yazdani (or possibly Ghasempour?).
I am also of the wish to see Ghasempour at 86 KG and Yazdani at 92 KG for this next year's Worlds. Cox will be at 97 KG and I suspect we will see Moore (who us back and forth with Karimi) or another 86 KG guy step up (Hidlay is my preferred choice).
I think he would have, yes. I don't see how to even argue against that.
Styles do make matches, though so I don't think he would have done it as effortlessly as he teched the Georgian, despite the Georgian making very little effort to do the same against Cassioppi.
The 125 KG Georgian looks to utilize his height and reach advantage.
When he cannot do that he has very little to offer. Masoumi absolutely destroyed him.
Injury or missed weight? Is he big?
I wish when there was a forfeit they would be more specific as to the reasoning - injury(does not need to be specific), missed weight, did not weigh in, failed skin check, etc.
Carr has a tendency to kind if close off when gents make him get tough. Gantt, a gatekeeper at 74/79 KG who tends to make it a teat of grit and attrition showed this at the 2020(1) Olympic Trials, just like the Georgian did today. He is fast, slick, and very good... he lacks a certain element of toughess when it comes down to it, though.
I am Including Greco when I say Cardenes beating the Georgian is the biggest, for me.
Cardenes isn't Top 10 at any style for the US, domestically. Hidlay, our 86 KG, would wipe the mat with him.
