Gotta be one of the first college signees ever from Indiana whose team didn't have a spot for him in the sectional lineup--and he's going to a D1 school. Nuts!! He's a beast. He deserves it.

The title says it all. What is the best takedown you have ever seen and who was it by?

My Pick: Wesley Bernard’s arm drag to a double leg to a half on the way down against Shawn Streck in the 2014 State semifinals.

In case you missed it on X or the college thread: Christian Mejia from Elkhart Memorial, Derek Blubaugh from Bloomington South, and Shawn Streck from Merrillville all picked up D2 national titles last night.

Mejia had finished 5th twice before, was seeded only 3rd, and was in his final year of eligibility.

Blubaugh had twice been national runner-up to his finals opponent, and had lost to him 5-0 two weeks ago, but finally got over the hump.

Streck picked up his second consecutive title.

    Congrats, guys!!

CA runs both the perfect state tournament and qualifiers in my opinion. I like the way the CIF has its league championships which help for seeding for its section championships, then its section masters, and finally their state championships. They have a 64-man bracket, seeding, wrestlebacks, and wrestle under the lights in sunny California. I’ve been to CA twice now and I hope to watch their state championships in the future.

Sometimes, I’ll go back and look at old brackets to see how things have played out in high school years later. This Novice 70 bracket from 2018 stood out to me as well as several others. Here were the top eight finishers. It’s interesting to see what all of these kids have done in the six years since then.

Not so much a loaded bracket, but a look back at a bracket I did from last year. Last year I took some of South Adams’ middle schoolers to ISWA state. I was excited to see how our now starting 126 Will Patterson would do because he was very good as a youth wrestler and in middle school, but didn’t see statewide competition that often. He ended up going 1-2. First loss was against Ty Henderson, who I knew was good and a ticket rounder, but now is viewed differently as a state runner up. Next match on the backside was a kid from Eastern Hancock. I told him I couldn’t name a single guy from that school and they historically haven’t produced studs, and I have never heard of this kid, so how tough could he be? Well let’s just say I was shocked at Will losing so bad to this kid, but he did look the part of a stud. Turns out that was Bradyn Volz, eventually sixth placer. Left a little disappointed in the results that day, to only look back and realized we wrestled some absolute hammers.

I don't have the credentials to pull off the meme skills--but I was thinking this same thing. Only loss in two years is to Indiana's #1 pound-for-pound. Biggest jump in quality is often sophomore to junior year. Owns an in-state title and wins over nationally ranked guys in-season and out. I guess he's already old news.
