I believe it was a in-season loss to Matt Whyde, who he would later beat on Friday night at state on route to his runner-up finish.
Where was Matt Whyde from?
You could be thinking of Kyle Nehring.

Are you sure Orrin didn’t lose to one other wrestler his junior year?
I Counted 7 times they wrestled Bloomington North that year so he may have lost to someone else. Do you know who it would have been?

Columbus North
Orrin Kleinhenz
Sophomore 189# 34-12 state Qualifier
Junior 189# 37-8 state runner up. All his losses this year came from Heath VanDeventer.
Senior 189# 49-0 State Champ.
Thadeus Douglas-The always under weight takedown machine. If they kept the 98# weight class I would be righting different stats down.
Senior 103# 3rd
Fargo Greco 7th
Fargo Greco 6th

In 1996 TJ Elbert from Columbus North Knocked off Undefeated Franklin Kid by pin at the 103 weight class, I think his name was Todd Cochran. I just remember everyone going nuts.

I have no predictions and didn’t mean to convey that anything was wrong with your picks. Looks reasonable to me. Just didn’t know if they were your picks in order or just your 4 semi state picks in no particular order.
I have them in the order I think they will place.

I see that Floyd is ranked 2nd in 3A, and 6th in the power poll. On the gorilla radio show the other night it was discussed that they would most likely not get voted in because they lost to Cathedral. I always feel the rankers do a pretty good job but it seems messed up that the 2nd ranked team would not get the nod. So I ask, are the guys that do the rankings over estimating how good Floyd is, or is the voting committee underestimating how good they are? I hope the 12 team format will be used!

I lived in Nebraska for 8 years, and I only went to the wrestling state finals once. The competition was completely watered down. There were a few decent finals matches but it was so hard to watch 4 finals matches going on at the same time all wrestling to be a "state champ" and the awards took forever. I never went back. The Indiana state finals spoiled me, and cant be matched. Although I don't agree with ghughes1974 on class wrestling, I too would love to see wrestle backs, and think it would make the state finals that much better.

Will any Johnson county kids looking to avoid Mooresville regional be transferring to Franklin community? Indian Creek over the next 4 years have a bunch of state caliber studs coming in, Franklin kids have always been tough as nails, that will probably never change. I feel like JC sectional will dominate the Jeff regional.
@TripleB Will Jeffersonville get any guys out of regionals?

Big tournaments like that need to split those weights over a few mats so that you don't hit wait times at the end of the day. I hate to see kids wrestling their 4 toughest matches within minutes of each other.I know last year my son wrestled all day on two mats. Around 45 kids in his weight class. He was wrestling like every 20 minutes it seemed like. The last few round we did have wait times, and that was a bummer. It would have been nice to have a bit more time in between matches. I think he was the only weight class on those 2 mats, since it was such a big bracket. If there was another weight or 2 in there it would help with the wait times, but then the tournament would take longer. Over-all it runs faster than the good ole days in the cattle barn at the state fairgrounds.

Seems like 2 of the older refs made all the bad calls. Wish they would let. Chris Davis should be officiating at state for sure.

What caught my eye the most was his footwork, and his unpredictable movements are a difficult puzzle to solve. Loved his post match interview as well.

Jeffersonville Regional
Team Race: Columbus East appears to be the overwhelming favorite.
The team race was closer than anyone had expected. 3 North wrestlers in the finals lost by 1 point. Would that have been enough to change the team race?

Anderson lost to Owen earlier in the season but was coming off a stomach bug and always seems stronger at the end of the season, it will definitely be a close and exciting match. I have a hard time seeing either scoring that many takedowns on Ratliff, but Nate managed to score one last weekend and it went down the wire. Both guys seemed to have a hard time getting anything going on the feet in their second match and I wouldn't be surprised to see it come down to escapes or reversals again. Do you know anything about the East Pekin kid? I haven't seen any of those kids wrestle before.
I don't know anything about the Eastern Pekin kid.

145 will be interesting. Nate Anderson from Columbus East lost by 1 after a 3rd period reversal to a very tough Asher Ratliff from North in the sectional championship last weekend. He was last years regional champ at 132 and beat a tough Coy Bender of Terre Haute South at team state last month. if both get through tough semi matches it will be a fun rematch in the finals.
This is a interesting weight, Anderson and Owen will collide in the semis to face the always stingy, super savvy, freshman Phenom Asher Ratliff. Asher's wrestling IQ is off the charts. Whoever wins in the semis will need to score 3-4 takedowns IMO to beat Ratliff (tall task). He has a 3-0 record against Owens and Anderson already with a combined score of 16-6. Owens being a senior may be feeling the pressure to go out big in his last high school post season, and can hit big moves from anywhere. Anderson and the entire East team are battle tested, and like to keep the score low. If Anderson can keep the score close, and keep Owen from hitting any big moves will probably make it to the finals. My prediction is Anderson over Owens 3-1 and Ratliff over Anderson in the finals 5-2.

At 138- this is going to be locked in for #17/#3 Brevan Thrine(New Castle) vs #18/#5 Luke Reid(Valparaiso). Look for thrine dominate this tournament.
I wouldn't look past Jason Shuey from Columbus North.

I grew Up in Indian, going to every state championship since 4th grade(1996) until I moved to Nebraska in 2008. For 2009-2010 season I was excited to go watch the Nebraska state wrestling finals.... until I got there. The finals had 4 mats wrestling( 1 for each class), and I asked a few spectators what mat was for 1st and 2nd? They replied with all 4 mats are wrestling for a state title at the same weight-class. Then the awards in between each weight-class took foreveeeer. As for the competition, it seemed completely watered down. I went into this not having an opinion one way or the other about class wrestling, but I never went back to the Nebraska state finals as it was like any other "ordinary" tournament. Id say winning a Nebraska state title is about like winning an Indiana Semi-state! Nothing to laugh about but not the same as winning an IHSAA state wrestling title. I'm happy to say that I moved back to Indiana in 2016 and have been to every IHSAA state championship since. It is simply the best! The only thing I would change about the individual IHSAA Wrestling tournament is to have full wrestle backs for 3rd place starting at sectionals.
Nebraska Class A (big class)Finals 5-pins 2-techfalls 1-MD 1-OT
Nebraska Class B Finals 4-pins 0-techfalls 2-MD 0-OT
Nebraska Class C Finals 1-pins 3-techfalls 2-MD 1-OT
Nebraska Class D (Smallest class) Finals 1-pin 0-techfalls 1-MD 1-OT
56 state champions crowned...….. The matches from the smallest schools were the most competitive.

Do you know how many of the qualifiers from Illinois are from Indiana or trained up in the region?
