Paycheck141 reacted to Galagore in Does Indiana Wrestling Need Divisions?
I cannot express how sad I am to be reading this thread so late.
Yes, we should absolutely have divisions. Small schools are not playing the same game large schools are and should not be competing against them in the same tournament.
We don't make the team sports do that, so making the individual sports do it makes very little sense.
You can search galagore for all of my other logic. I am too sad to post it all right now.

Paycheck141 reacted to Zach Richards in Does Indiana Wrestling Need Divisions?
With the 1A/2A State Championship this weekend, it got me thinking … Is it time for Indiana to have different divisions for wrestling, similar to football or basketball?
I’ll save my opinion for later, but I’m curious as to what others think.

Lake Central: Undoubtedly Kyle Ayersman. Three time state champ (2010, 2011, 2012) and took third in 2009. 193-2 overall career record and I believe a four time Al Smith finalist with three titles.

1. Implementing a harsher penalty for unnecessary roughness.
2. Wrestlers being considered inbounds with one supporting point.
3. Specific measurement requirements for required girls uniforms.
4. Video replay in championship events.
5. Awarding three points for a takedown instead of two.
6. Awarding two points for near-fall after a two-second count, three points for a near-fall after a three-second count, four points for a near-fall after a four-second count.
7. Charging the wrestler with a loss when using a medical forfeit.
8. Requiring only one supporting point for wrestling to be considered inbounds.
9. Eliminating that knees be inside the boundary to earn a fall or near-fall with the defensive wrestler out of bounds.
10. Allowing that the pinning area not be the “total” of supporting points when the defensive wrestler is on their back.
11. Allowing a wrestler to touch the mat in front of the starting line in the neutral starting position.
12. Adding grasping of the ear guards or mat as a delayed call.
13. Adding head-butting to the list of illegal holds/maneuvers.
14. Expanding to include gouging or poking of the eyes to Rule 5-29-1 (Unnecessary Roughness)
15. Requiring at least one coach in the corner of a match.
16. Requiring mat-side weigh-ins.
17. Mandating coaches’ attire at dual meets and tournaments – similar to other NFHS sports.

This is a nasty level of hating. Kyrel pinned and teched his way through John Hurrle, pinned his way through Marion County, pinned and teched his way to the Al Smith finals, got two falls in the matches Warren wrestled at Team State, pinned his way through sectionals, pinned and teched his way through regionals, pinned his way through semi-state, and teched his opening round at State, won his semis 9-3, and pinned the #1 in the finals… DOMINANT without a doubt.

Paycheck141 reacted to Slop Drop and Roll in Frosh-Soph State Qualifier Idea
I was actually thinking about that myself at Hobart. I was so proud of everyone today knocking 3 hours off last years time. We had less wrestlers but we also went from 11 mats to 18 this year. I totally feel for the people traveling long distances. Now there is some rumbling. (See if it ever gets traction) of the NFL pushing back the Super Bowl to Presidents Day weekend ( or state weekend) because of the Monday after being a holiday. Or if the NFL gets what they really want an 18th regular season game that would do it as well.
Obviously we are just a host site and don’t run the tournament but I think there are some more tweaks we could do as a host site to make it even better, and maybe have suggestions for tweaks of the overall format.

Paycheck141 reacted to Lawdiggity in Frosh-Soph State Qualifier Idea
If you have bigger kids and you have to travel 3 hours for a qualifier on Super Bowl Sunday you usually find yourself getting home after the big game and approaching midnight if you change time zones. Idea - could the qualifiers swap low weight and high weights between the a.m and p.m. sessions every year instead of always doing the smaller guys in the morning? Assuming many will compete both freshman and sophomore year, it’s a fair balance and means you only have to experience that extremely long day once. Advanced apologies to you middle weights that jump from light to heavy between 9th and 10th grade 🤣

Paycheck141 reacted to grifffan in Best Matches to Rewatch?
Crown Point received 3 Unsportsmanlikes yesterday. Including after this match when he stands over the losing wrestler and calls him a little beeyotch. Then instead of learning his lesson the wrestlers goes to the Merrillville corner and tries to get into it with the kids brother and dad (you know the guy who has the lack of maturity).
Oh wait, because holier than thou Crown Point coaches have such great maturity. Last week telling a kid to go eat a d. And then the same coach arguing a clear slam yesterday. And then proceeding to walk over to the injured wrestler and intimidate the coaches and wrestler to get up. And then another coach coming out of the stands to argue the same slam. (Something he shouldn’t have been allowed to do anyway.) The same coaches that during a match at Team State threw a rule book after all three of them went to the table to argue a call that didn’t go their way. (Also, not allowed as only 1 coach may go to the table to argue.) This year has become too much.
If my AD got 3 Unsportsmanlike reports in a day, my job would be posted the next day.

Pick your cheering section wisely. Take note there is only one side of the gym where you can view all mats from. The other three sides will have blind spots where you wont be able to see half the mat closest to you. And don't even think you are going to step up to the rail for a match to be able to see it. Good luck!
