Freshman year went 17-12 and was a regional qualifier at 160lbs

Sophomore year wrestled first tournament of year…. Found out he had two stress fractures in his back and probably wasn’t going to wrestle the rest of the year… had a remarkable recovery was able to come back in January and made a run during tournament series and became a IHSAA State Qualifier at 170lbs (lost Friday night to guy who got 5th) and finished season 21-6.

Now as a junior is 14-1 (loss is to the #3 ranked guy) and is currently ranked #13 at 170

    Team Record: 8-0
IHSAA State Champions IHSAA Semi State Champions IHSAA Regional Champions IHSAA Sectional Champions (Set largest margin victory at state tournament that held for almost 40 years)
*With only 13 wrestlers in a lineup and only placing Top 4*

Lineup (only had 13 Weight classes)

98: David Irving (10th) - Semi State Qualifier - (21-6 record) (got 4th his junior year and got 2nd his senior year and went on to wrestle at IU) 105: Brad Kennedy (11th)- Semi State Qualifier (got 3rd his senior year and went on to wrestle at Uindy) 112: Chris Ruble (12th) - IHSAA 4th Place - (25-7 record) 119: Doug Campbell (12th) - IHSAA State Qualifier (24-4 record)   (was also a state qualifier as a sophomore) 126: Chris Campbell (12th) - IHSAA State Champ - (30-0 record)  (3rd as soph. and 2nd as junior) 132: Don Heintzelman (12th) - IHSAA State Champ - (16-2 record) (went on to wrestle at Notre Dame) 138: David Locke (9th) - Semi State Qualifier - (21-7 record) (rest of career speaks for itself) 145: Jeff Cox (11th) - Regional Qualifier (9-3 record) 155: Greg Gadbury (12th) - IHSAA State Champ - (32-0 record)  (3rd place as a junior) 167: David Palmer (11th) - IHSAA State Champ - (29-0) (2nd as freshman, 1st as Sophomore, and 1st as senior) Went on to wrestle at Oklahoma and was one of the best if not the best wrestlers to ever come through Indiana I could go on and on with accolades 189: Steve Stewart (12th) HWT: John Good (12th) (was a state qualifier as a junior)
By the words of David Locke... this was the best team that Delta had in their dominating run in the 80s and there were some really good teams that followed. Guys that couldn't fit in lineup because they were behind state champs and the next year after they graduated they either won state themselves or were state placers. Example: John Ginther (wrestled varsity all year then lost to State Champ Heintzelman in wrestle off right before sectionals) Ginther went on to go 4th-1st-1st.

They tried to dual St, Paris Graham who was ranked #1 in country at time, but they didn't want to... finally convinced them to a few years later and beat them.

Years following this team they were ranked in the Top 5 in the country (and this team had 7 seniors in the lineup.

My dad's best friend and who I call uncle Pee Wee  aka Roger Hirst was part those loaded 80s  teams 84-87,as he graduated in 87.. He himself was a State qualifier at 98 pounds.. And was hardly 90 pounds his senior year and to this day might weigh 100 pounds soak and wet, but has a vice grip like most would not believe.

It is always awesome when he, dad and I sip a few cold 1 and UNC lets me pick his brain and talks about those Delta teams! There was 7 guys that were SQ/Placers in the class of 87 which is unreal in it's own right.

was on the teams that had 6 state champs during his 4 years there with Riggin, Locke, Tuttle, ginther, McCormick, Campbell.

He was part of the bk2bk Team State champ teams 84 & 85 that both went 8-0. Then his Jr year they got runner up going 14-2, and lost the semi state and finished 14-2.

He really cherished those times and loved that I was wanting to know all I could about those squads and told my dad that I had more sense than he did off of wrestling history alone lol.. In uncle Peewee's 4 years they had 25 State qualifiers, 19 placers, 16 of those 19 were state  Semi finalists aka top 4 placers ,8 finals appearances under the lights in the finals going for 7  individual state  with Ginter being a 2xer and the Eagles holding a superb 7-1 record in the state title match during those 4 seasons.. Those 80s teams def need some consideration.

You've started off your Delta coaching career pretty darn awesome yourself! I've got a handful of guys I consider my brothers that have their kids there and help as well and they all speak nothing but praise of what you're doing with the program and the overall culture building! And really love that the kids have taken to you and how you elevated the competitive mindset all while really focusing on developing great young people. Keep it up, between the Jaggers, Allisons, Carver,Mosiers Martin's man child Canelo (I think he'll take more to wrestling the older he gets) as well at the many other) and many other wrestling tradition families, y'all are in good hands! Also Aiden flowers and his father who are also like family to me, really look up to you and respect the heck out of you Coach!!

it's soo crazy thinking  after I graduated HS I was contacted by Troy about helping him coach his stud elementary squar that you and Chandler Carol among many other studs who were a part of and we would hold practices in the New Castle High School room. y'all had to be only 8 to 10 at the time have really going to wonderful young men! I'm Getting old lol
