When a wrestler has beaten an opponent time and time again - then drops the match when it is under the BIG lights on Saturday night. I'm not talking when the series goes back and forth - I'm talking when said wrestler has beaten other wrestler every time (but it's always been close) - but then drops the most important one. I know this happened this year with Schaffer and Rioux ...seems like I remember there being a Floyd Central/New Albany scenario that was similar a few years back. I'm sure this happens quite a bit - what are some that pop into your head when thinking of this scenario??

I took the weekend to reflect and I thought about apologizing.
But after reading all of the posts from posters who probably represent teams that didn't even place top 10 I will not apologize. If I get banned that's fine I'll make another name and come back stronger.
We will be cheering on our Dogs who will be trying to all american and win national championship at all levels college. All of the haters good luck supporting all of the talent your programs are putting at the next level
Congratulations to brownsburg and center grove it was only the 3 of us that could have won this weekend
To everyone else: we will rebuild and grow from this but this weekend made me realize more then ever
CP vs everyone! just like it has always been
No one out works us.
Well…except BB and CP that is

The thing is, it really isn't the grind but more of guaranteeing that Brownsburg and Center Grove don't hit on Friday night or in the quarters. While it's great to get the guys to the show CP was guaranteed to hit an Evansville kid to get to the semi finals.
That makes sense

I’ll get thrown over the coals for this- and admittedly I don’t know much- but maybe, just maybe, the grind that is the Southern part of the postseason tourney (Moorseville, EVSS) had BB and CG ready to go (iron sharpens iron type of thing)
And conversely, maybe the 3 week cake-walk of a postseason CP enjoyed had their egos a little inflated?? And that’s not a dig- I mean, it’s only human nature.

You have to have a good community in place for a club to link to, look at your own examples you listed. RWA isn’t the only place these kids wrestle for, Crown Point has Bulldog Premier in house, where most these kids start at. Then the cross club training begins, iron sharpens iron.
I’m not from the area so I’m not familiar with what “clubs” feed into certain high schools- but the point remains

Please tell me you’re not crying over parents moving into communities that gives their kids the best opportunities and is also one of the states top schools for education. I moved from Crown Point 18 years ago and I track the construction industry for the Region and no city has as much growth in housing and businesses as Crown Point with no slow down insight. I can also guarantee you those same coaches coached those same wrestlers in their youth and It’s more of a family, being that they were all raised together. I find it hilarious when people like you scream recruiting and the community itself recruits in its rapid development. How can the IHSAA punish them for the constant change in their community that brings people there? Don’t forget to put your red nose on today so you can hide behind it like you are here. Have a Nice Day!!!
It’s not necessarily a “community thing” so-much-so as it is a CLUB thing. Crown Point just happens to be the lucky benefactors of these RWA kids assimilating under one school roof.
Same could be said when Catherdral was pulling a ton of Contender kids
Brownsburg a lot of Red Cobra , and the list goes on…

Everyone knows the Southern part of the State is known for its fried organs/chicken/tenderloins!!

So am I understanding this correctly?? Thousands of Indiana wrestling fans are going to have to go to the will call window to pick up physical, printed, paper copies of their tickets?!?
What in the wide world??? Isn’t everything under the sun doing digital tickets nowadays??
Secondly- I sure hope the Ford Center has more than one will call window and multiple workers- or this could be a disaster lol

The rules state:
"Any coach of the contestant .... has the prerogative to default a match to the opponent at any time prior to the conclusion of wrestling"
Then, was the match over:
"The conclusion of wrestling occurs when the time expires at the end of the third period, when the overtime ends, or when a fall, disqualification or a default occurs."
Did a default occur?
"If a contestant is injured as a result of an illegal hold/maneuver, ..... to the extent the contestant is unable to continue following a maximum of two minutes recovery time, the contestant shall be awarded the match by default."
The two minute recovery clock expired, the wrestler did not continue; therefore, wrestling had ended and a default should have been awarded to the injured wrestler.
Dude- why you keep bringing this up??? everyone on this board agrees the right/stand up thing was done. Why do you seem intent on wanting to take away a State trip from a kid who clearly deserves it??
Coach Synder - hats off to you and thoughts /prayers for the young man.

Interesting thread read - but again, I'll reiterate - once you start viewing the dominance from a CLUB perspective and take the high school affiliation out of it (not that the high school's don't have a certain impact on success...but I'd argue the CLUBS probably have more) - then the transfers and dominance make a little more sense.

Contenders is huge. You can't leave them off the list.
Not being from the Indy area - I wasn't quite sure who/what CLUBS were dominate in the area. Point still remains however...the State series is becoming more and more a battle of CLUB teams as much as it is high school teams lol
-
Interesting topic of discussion. I think we all agree that to be at this elite level of wrestling, it goes beyond the high school room and into the Club scene...so maybe, the more appropriate question is, which CLUBS are feeding into these schools??
Crown Point - RWA (Region Wrestling Academy)
Brownsburg - Red Cobra's ?
Center Grove - ???
Mater Dei - Maurer-Coughlin
Just makes sense that these kids form a relationship rolling around all off-season together, and they want to be on the same high school team.
Maybe this isn't the case...just what it appears from afar....

Henderson vs Haines ticket round….ouch
In what world does one of them not qualifying for State make ANY sense?!?

Aggghhhh that’s nothing, one year Asa & Ty Mills wrestled 5x . County, Conference, Sectionals, Regionals, Semi State .
Sure- wrestlers from the same conference often butt heads MANY times. While ALL were important- none were a “win or your seasons DONE” scenario of the ticket round…

State Ranking
126 #1 Schaefer vs. #3 L. Rioux
Over the years 126lbs has been very unkind Mooresville Regionals vs. Castle Regionals .
They’ve already wrestled twice this year (with Schaefer winning narrowly both times)- a 3rd match in the ticket round would just be cruel

I might be wrong- but doesn’t the IHSAA do like a live TV reveal?? I seem to remember Greg Rakstraw and Mike Goebel talking thru the brackets??

Yes it is a long drive both this weekend and next but I can't deny the success our team has had, as a team and individuals since moving to a different sectional and regional.
You think the success is tied into moving sectionals and regionals?? How so??

No. For the same reason I don't ask my students if they prefer to have to pay attention in class. Doing what the kids want is a step backwards. As adults, we are supposed to do what is best for their development, not what they prefer.
?? Seems to be kind of a dangerous/arrogant way of thinking?? "I'm the adult in the room so I know best!"
Granted, adults/professionals should make the decision - but has anyone stopped and considered what the athletes that are actually competing want/desire?? Maybe they like the idea of 1 champion per weight class ?? (Even though "we adults" realize this is a stupid concept??)

I love it. It’s building up the sport of wrestling in Indiana. Kids who stay on JV have a chance to be a state champ and / or work towards something.
Sure....as I said- more wrestling is always a good thing.
What most of you on this board probably don't think about or consider, is putting on these events requires quite a bit - setting up mats, finding table workers, concessions, etc...
Takes a lot of dedicated and selfless people to make this like JV State come together.
-
Has anyone ever thought to ask the actual wrestlers what they prefer??
-
More wrestling is always a good thing.....but - I'm not sure where I fall on this one (personally). Seems to be a bit of overkill....

Wow - this thread certainly took a turn lol.
I don't have a dog in this fight - but I am willing to bet someone within the WC wrestling program reads and knows about this site. Not that we are owed anything - but an explanation for their departure would go a long way for their "reputation" amongst the wrestling community.
Maybe those involved do not care what the outside perception is - and I wasn't in attendance for the 4A duals - so I only know what I have read. And that is that WC chose to leave, while having wrestlers able to participate, without word or messaging to those in charge??
Cutting Weight vs. Managing Weight

Interesting topic and good read. Of course, most on here will cite examples of their Champs who didn't make a "hard cut" and point out that is the best possible route.
Not many will have the guts to come on here and talk about the 1061/113/120 pounder who came down from 140+ to win his title.
It is all relative ...
