Frankton's lawyer had more class than that. He did not use any angle that would threaten the career of anyone involved. He used the angle that if Dru was denied the ability to wrestle it could be damaging to his chances of a post high school scholarship and money that could help his low income family pay for a college degree. Now....Dru ended up not going to college and as he got older he had no ambitions of wrestling in college but it got him the eligibility that he deserved his sophomore year.

This reminds me of a great story back in 2015-16. Yorktown had recruited Dru Berkible to come wrestle for them when he was in middle school. Dru wrestled for Yorktown High School while living in the Frankton district during his freshman year. After his freshman year he decided he wanted to come back to Frankton and wrestle for the district he lived in. Yorktown did not like this so they refused to sign off on him. Once again, He lived in the Frankton district the whole time. The IHSAA got involved and still said no. Now understand, Yorktown's had a history of non-district kids and convenient move-ins (Jackson, Hunt, Curtis, Rutter, Walker, Carroll, Berkbile, Milius twins, Vanhorn....should I keep going???) I can say that I even had one of these young men in class at the time and he explained to me that he had to use one of the assistant coach's rental addresses to become eligible however he was actually spending time traveling from his hometown and also spending most nights at other wrestlers houses for the year. Oh man I could add so many more stories, however, back to the point. Frankton was smart and used the help of a past Eagle wrestler who has since become a successful lawyer and took it to the IDOE. News Flash...the IDOE does not like lawyers and granted him full and immediate eligibility that year. It was a crazy time and one I had to scratch my head about because I had taught and coached football at Yorktown prior to coaching at Frankton. Everyone knew what was going on. Them not releasing him after all the kids they took away from other programs was ridiculous. It was hotel Yorktown, where you could check in any time you wanted but could never check out. In the end, however, Frankton won that battle. Had this young man gotten the help of a lawyer, or maybe he did????, the outcome might have gone in his favor On a side note, thankfully all the administrators and the coaches, except the principal, involved with all the recruiting and unethical behavior are long gone. Yorktown has since hired a great young coach in Jacob Stephenson who is going to do things the right way and worry more about developing wrestlers and a program and less about his coaching record.

Unless I am looking at it wrong.... Shenandoah has 1 kid in the 106 bracket!!!! He/'she is going to Forfeit to a Sectional Championship without wrestling a single match! I don't know if that is funny, depressing, or impressive but either way, 40 years from now this kid is going to be telling all the locals that he/she was a Sectional Champion in 2021! First names Kendra so it could even be the first Female sectional champ in school history. What at crazy year!

In an email read yesterday, the IHSAA stated that as of now all 224 wrestlers will not be allowed in Bankers Life at the same time. This makes absolutely no sense to me and would love to hear the justification. Look at these numbers... Bankers Life holds 20,000 people at full capacity. If they were told that they could only use 25%... that would be 5,000. 224 Wrestlers 896 in fans (4 tickets per wrestler on Friday, even less needed for Saturday) 448 in Coaching tickets (2 coaches per kid. Obviously this number is higher than it needs to be due to the fact that the same coaches will be coaching multiple kids. Just humor me on the number for now) That is a total of 1,568. That leaves 3,432 in workers from Media, Officials, Gate keepers, Table help, etc...... No "Parade of Champions" all on the floor at the same time...I get that, but football State finals had fans, Colts have fans...Let the young men have their day with their families!!! Just my 1/2 cent on a Tuesday!

Ok, I do agree with this but what if B's mom is much hotter than A's mom but C has a 22 year old sister that is hotter than any of them? It clearly states that coaches have to have an open mind and you have to account for all scenarios. Whose mom or sister do you want to see at future tournaments???? In all seriousness, until coaches have an educated open conversation with the IHSAA, this complaint is going to continue to be brought up each year.
