Big win for Hayden Lohrey over Kasper McIntosh!
Bonus points proved the difference. IU closing the gap.. slowly but surely.

He is getting his first dual meet start at 165 this weekend at Iowa State. I Can’t tell you how hard he has worked to get to this point. He has shoulder surgeries in each of the past 2 years (same surgery on each one) on top of having to close the gap to get into the lineup. Glad to see him finally getting his payoff. Great kid.

wchew20 reacted to Y2CJ41 in Midlands Canceled
There are a couple off-shoot events happening. Iowa is now having an "Iowa Open" and IllinoisMatmen along with Rokfin are hosting a "new" Midlands at the same venue.
Wrestling Twitter has been quite entertaining the past 18 hours.

Hayden Lohrey (Purdue) also had a great day and took 1st at 165 in the amateur division. He defeated the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers and didn’t give up a takedown all tournament. One Match of note was defeating Nathan Conley (UIndy)7-2 in round 2.

wchew20 reacted to FC118 in Indiana HS Alums at Maryville Kaufman Brand Open
I noticed that a couple of freshman wrestlers met in the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open finals in the amateur division at 174 pounds. In a re-match from last year's IHSAA State Finals 3rd/4th place match, Derek Blubaugh (UIndy via Bloomington South) gained a bit of revenge by defeating Elijah Mahan (Lindenwood via Roncalli) 12-6 in the tournament finals. Mahan defeated Blubaugh 13-10 to capture 3rd at 170 pounds at State last season.

Great win for Hayden. I think he is still quite aways way from his ceiling and his best days are ahead of him at the college level (which he will be announcing this week). He really didn’t start wrestling year round until his junior year. His CIA crew is helping him tremendously.

For the record......I had on the thong for luck in the stands! But its not leopard skin. It’s a chartreuse yellow, banana hammock. They’re going to include it in Silas’ section of the trophy case at Doah! Probably better wash it first huh? 😜

wchew20 reacted to redcobra in State brackets on track changed!
This error had nothing to do with the IHSAA ... they have been busting it on your behalf and are working hard to make this a great experience for everyone. If you have to throw someone under the bus throw me. Mark Durham. The buck for this TW mistake has to land somewhere. They were built this morning while I was in transit from some Evansville events back to Indy ... I should have pulled over at the Exit 87 Country Mark gas station on I69 south and checked them before they went public. I didn't. As it turns out they were set-up correctly, but there is a little check-box at the bottom of the build screen that says, more or less, "use saved lines instead of default lines" ... well, it needs to be checked and wasn't. And you know the rest of the story. Again, I am sorry.
The "Show" was fantastic.

My boy wrestled Silas and have nothing but respect for him and his Dad. Top notch and they deserve everything that he is about to accomplish. Amazing on and off the mat.

Also hard to believe is that he is a very young junior. He is a young 16 and I believe he will graduate as a 17 year old next year. 2 years ago as a 14 year old freshmen He was beating ranked 18 year old ranked wrestlers at 170. Very special talent.
