New Palestine Wrestling reacted to KevinHelm in Biggest Friday night upset ever
Unfortunately this was Saturday morning at New Castle in 1985 since we didn’t have a Friday night. If my fading memory serves me right, former CG coach Mike Trulock(18-14) wrestling for Beech Grove then, made it as an alternate 4 seed and defeated a then undefeated and I believe ranked #1 or #2 Paul Richey of Laporte.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Holden in State qualifiers by Team State Teams
First, I want say that I love reading the stats you all break down. They are fun and interesting to see. However, I want to add a stat that I find interesting also. While Greenfield had no state qualifiers this year, we won Connersville for the first time ever, placed 3rd at team state (we had never been) and won the HHC for the third straight year (first time in school history). The HHC includes very tough teams such as New Pal (2 qualifiers), New Castle (3), Mt Vernon (3), Delta (4), Yorktown (1) and Pendleton (1). I'm not sure many teams have had that kind of success with no state qualifiers. And, while I am very disappointed that we didn't have a state qualifier, I am extremely proud of my team. They are just that, a team. No way we do the things we did this year without these kids wrestling for each other. I am a proud coach!

I will never understand the fear some parents have for their kids to compete vs kids their own age.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Gasman in 2024 Finals Location
Joe you are the freaking man. Thank you for giving this board some sort of normalcy and providing realistic solutions instead of throwing out ridiculous solutions. Those throwing out “outside of the box solutions”
sound like trump suggesting injecting Clorox. Get real people. Realize that just a couple of years ago we got to wrestle our state finals and basketball got theirs canceled. Be grateful. Also be grateful for the nba all star game because it will
provide insane amounts of outside revenue for Indiana as a whole.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Y2CJ41 in 2024 Finals Location
I don't know if you ever read anything or just spout off to spout off.
Hotel rooms are being booked solid for 2024 in downtown Indy at rates that are 3-5X what they normally are. The NBA books WHOLE hotels for all their people. Not sure if you have ever taken a gander at a map, but Lucas Oil Stadium is in downtown Indy. On top of the NBA All-Star game having some fan festivities at Lucas Oil Stadium no school or fan will want to attend state within the Indianapolis area that weekend due to the high price increases. This also includes hotels on the outskirts of Indianapolis. I would love to not have to pay more than my mortgage for one night at state.
I understand you want to make this some crazy conspiracy theory about the IHSAA, but this is out of their control as the city of Indianapolis, Pacers, and others are behind the All-Star game coming to Indy.
With the wrestling state finals being smack dab in the middle of championship season it is also extremely difficult for the IHSAA to move the date.
As much as I want to live in fantasy land with the ability to move the dates or use one of the more centralized locations the reality is the best options are either Fort Wayne or Evansville.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to MattM in 2024 Finals Location
Best case scenario would have been Hinkle Fieldhouse. The central location and seating are there, although based on prior attendance it would be a tight fit.
Balls States Worthen arena is already used for Gymnastics and Volleyball most years. It slightly away from the center of the state but has enough seating. Pretty much the same story with Purdue’s Mackey Arena.
I honestly don’t want it squeezed into a HS gym that’s not accommodation to fans and atmosphere wise a big disservice to the wrestlers who qualify.
I just wish the IHSAA was proactive with trying to work with the colleges on this at the end of last season when there was plenty of time to adjust things. I fear if they haven’t locked anything in by now many of the somewhat centrally located colleges would have already had scheduled set for next years boys/girls basketballs season and little ability to shift dates.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to TysonNisley in Wabash College actual D3 national champs
As a Wabash wrestler I would love to see that title in our hands... but we're hard at work to win the next one anyways.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Y2CJ41 in Lee vs Red
College wrestling is tough. Being a three time All American is pretty darn good. CJ has confirmed and talked about the struggles he had mentally with the sport.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to SWINfan in Champions Broadcast for the IHSAA Finals matches
I'm having issues with it. The mic is picking up crowd noise and it's drowning out Goebel and Maurer. Love the broadcast and the announcers, but seems like they could make an adjustment.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Coach Brobst in Stalling Question
I’m not saying that I agree with the rule but it is textbook stalling to hang on a leg and do nothing to improve.
theres a lot of college matches that do this, yes, and it never gets called but it is within the right of an official to hit stalling when a wrestler is actively avoiding scoring.
Personal opinion is that you earn the right to stall by building a big lead.
I do have an issue with officials calling stalling in quick succession like that as well. I was just pointing out that if there’s no attempt to improve it could be called stalling.
Again, from what you’ve described, if he’s defending and blocking improvement, that is NOT stalling, and I believe even forcing a scramble or crackdown situation and milking time is not stalling, but shooting under locking hands and hanging out with no attempt to improve is stalling, technically speaking.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Y2CJ41 in With All Things Considered…
Over the past 10 years forfeits at the sectional level have effectively doubled(from 617 in 2011 to 1114 in 2021). We have also had a significant increase in All-Americans at the NCAA level.
One of those facts is really good, the other is extremely alarming.
Too many times we are looking at the top level and not the middle or bottom. We have effectively lost 42 full wrestling teams over the past 10 years.
-
New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Galagore in With All Things Considered…
The middle and bottom are rotting out of the Indiana wrestling scene and the top is shooting to the moon. If you like watching Big Ten Network and hearing a ton of names you recognize, we are doing great. If you want a sustainable wrestling culture in our state, not so much. No one has to say the word, but we don’t have to pretend proper wrestlebacks and seedings are the only things Ohio, Illinois, and Pennsylvania have.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Coach Peck in Great Podcast
I ran across this podcast (Wrestling Changed My Life) and it was a great listen. The guest on this episode was Nick Hardwick. Indiana State Wrestling Champion at Lawrence North, Big Ten Football player at Purdue, and a long career in the NFL with the Chargers. The interesting thing is that Nick did not play High School Football. Nick give alot of credit to his High School Coach Royce Deckard.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Ahawkeye in Chesterton New Coach???
So from an outsiders standpoint, where is Coach Jolls going? Did an opportunity come open in college or another high school or is he taking a step back from coaching? I certainly realize and see the demand that is put on a wrestling coach. I sometimes wonder how they do it, I coach grade school kids and look at our varsity coach (Greg Schaefer) and wonder how the heck he doesn't lose his mind. Good luck to Coach Jolls.

New Palestine Wrestling reacted to Mattyb in Faulkens view on Class Wrestling
In my opinion. Coaches encouraging kids to do one sport only is the biggest issue to why participation in all sports is down.
