  1. Unfortunate press for IU as Angel takes over. However, as a Boilermaker fan, this sort of IU behavior is not surprising in general. I jest of course.
  2. Spoiler ALERT! This was already posted @Ch1StyleZ84
  3. True, though the probability is higher for some than others.
  4. I agree with you. I think we get close on the top 10 and I think the system likely places the top 4-6 well. After that there will always be arguments about the system or where the cut line should be. From the standpoint of parity within a class, it is nice that there are teams from 15-25 that could still be competitive with teams who make the top 12.
  5. CMA Wrestling FB page has an exciting announcement about their new schedule. Looks like a significant improvement. Triacoff, Detroit Catholic Central, MI, Olentangy, OH. This kind of competition could really improve their readiness for the state tournament series.
  6. I have not seen anything official either. So I'm uncertain where the information comes from. I did see in another post and on FB that CMA is beefing up their schedule as well. This has been another challenge for the team over the years since they've had some really talented kids who truly need the competition, but also had 3-5 weights with really novice wrestlers. Hard to have tournaments that meet the needs of both.
  7. I see your point. CMA had some 'gaps' in their line-up (be that FF's or very novice wrestlers). With the 3 seniors graduating there are some openings in the middle weights and still 2-3 spots in the lower weights and 1-2 spots in the upper. So, I guess it will really depend on the incoming class and how they fill in. In another post Sig40 indicated 5 new guys coming in from OH? It will be interesting to see how they fall into the line-up among the returning guys. CMA will lose 3 Seniors next year as well who were 1 SSQ and 2 RQ from this season. The lack of a feeder program is tough for consistency.
  8. Could everyone who is being sarcastic write in italics? I'm trying to discern between these two posts.
  9. Where did you find the numbers for these again? I can't seem to find the old post with the team points. I am a little surprised CMA was not in the mix for a vote-in. They beat Rochester head to head in a dual last year (which I realize isn't a criteria and lost a close dual with New Prairie with a couple of kids out of the line-up d/t injury). CMA must have had 9 RQ, with 6 SSQ, and 2 SQ. Not doubting the calculations, just wondering.
  10. CMA doesn't have a feeder program, so starting from scratch with a kid in 9th grade (unless he's Kris Rumph) is pretty hard. 5 starters would be a boost if they're all in the line-up. CMA's JV was thin at best this year. They had a couple of weights with novice wrestlers and they lose 3 key seniors: State Placer, 2x State Qualifier, 4xSSQ, 4x Sectional Champ: Adam Davis (138) 2x SSQ ticket rounder, 3x RQ, Sectional Champ: Michael Boland (182) 1x SSQ, 3x RQ: Aaron Brooke (152) Also 2xSSQ Dante Dalmaso (missed most of the year d/t injury and doesn't have another year of eligibility left) Depending on where these new guys fall in with the returning kids, CMA will at least be equally tough as a tournament team and maybe more formidable as a dual team.
  11. What about the fun of dominating and imposing his will on others. Sounds better than a crummy medal anyway. Glad he wrestled well. Hope he can take some joy in that.
  12. Is that Peyten Kellar? Maybe Peyten Kellar? His most recent weigh-ins on Track Wrestling are @ cadet 120 (same as Mendez).
  13. Will be interesting to see who ends up at this weight: C. Rooks (126 this year; could bump clear to 138?) Mosconi or Bryant (132 this year 2nd and 3rd; doubt either stay at 132; do they go 138 or 145?) M. Lee or C. Gimson (138 this year, While they were 7th and 5th they did well in a weight packed with some heavy hitting seniors.... Can they still make the weight?)
  14. @MattM this is very true. It is why coaching at this level is about so much more than just being a great wrestler, technician, motivator, recruiter etc.... You've really got to manage a whole program and you've got to get the fiscal backing to make it happen. Your point about building DEPTH in the coaching staff is a great one. I am personally more of a Purdue fan, but I am pulling for Angel none the less. I hope he gets the support he needs to make some real changes.
  15. I do think Rumph would have been the champ. Glad to see he will be wrestling #7 Cole Matthews of PA for Indiana's Dream Team. Based on Rumph's weight, looks like he could have gone 132 for the Dream Team and faced #2 Real Woods of Il.
  16. I am too cheap to pay for Flo Pro, so I did not get to watch any video from the tournament. When I saw Bryant had beaten Rumph in the semi's and noticed it said DEF, I got on this board to find out what had happened. Apparently what happened has at least two differing sides. Hind sight being 20-20 I suppose it would have been better for Bryant to continue and then injury default letting Rumph move on to the finals. Based on the scores it looks like Rumph likely wins over Wyo. Sem. and Indiana ends up with 1st, 3rd and 4th. Instead IN ends up with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a controversy. Truth be told I thought it would be interesting to see a Combest/Bryant re-match from last years IN State Tournament 1/4 finals. Regardless of the side of the issue you fall on, it begs the question "How important is it to be first?" I know it's a competition and everyone wants to win. Only the wrestlers involved actually know the truth- Did Rumph "intend" to use an illegal move? Did Bryant "fake" the level of injury? If they can both honestly answer NO, then things went as they should. If not, someone lacked integrity. Sincerely, m. boland
  17. So...they envy it because they know it is better. But they won't do it??? Because... all the other states are sissys?? Like PA, NJ, OH, IL, CA.... I don't think you can technically say we are 'leading' unless someone follows.
  18. In fact, this WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE in an OSU win. With Nolf I think PSU wins it (especially now that Lee has shored up 141)
  19. I think this basically summarizes it. The one other factor as 'year round' sports have become more and more popular is ACCESS to "off season" coaching. If you live within 30 minutes of some of the better wrestling academies it is significantly easier to make that year-round commitment. I know there are some who set such a high priority on their sport (whatever it is) that they invest vasts amounts of both time and money in travel costs. That is not realistic for everyone. Not saying this is "unfair", "wrong" etc.... But I do believe it is a fact that causes some differences in performance at the top level of competition. I know my son considers himself a 'wrestler' and he competes in the preseason, does RTC's in the post-season, competes in the post-season etc.... That said, once he starts his summer job (which he has to have) his schedule does not really allow us to make the travel times and commit the funding to attending a wrestling academy (probably 1-2 hour drive to the nearest ones). If he doesn't make it out of SS this year I definitely think that will be a contributing factor. BUT NOT AN UNFAIR ONE! IF A KID WHO DID MAKE THE COMMITMENT WINS- THAT KID DESERVES IT.
  20. Agreed this should be a good one. I guess I give Calhoun a significant edge in this one. That said, Walker is a stud. I just have not seen him in person much this year, but that was definitely an oversight! Again, one where these two guys make the finals easily. I think Banks is solid and he certainly took care of business at sectionals. I just think LaPlace is on another level. You are right that this could be a great match. I think LaPlace is easy in the finals, but I think the winner of Harper/Pack can give Banks a legit match.
  21. Some of the interesting match-ups: 126: Alexander v. DeMien (I think both make the finals fairly easily, but this should be a great match) 132: Brooks v. Bryant (again, both easily in the finals, but after watching Brook last week this will be a battle) 145: Pack v. Harper in the 1st round (I have Pack making it through, but I'm sure some folks will disagree. This one will come down to who keeps his head and executes) 170: Brown v. Trefren semifinal (another good match-up, Snyder had a heck of a finals last week to knock off Trefren (avenging an early season loss) and set up this semifinal bout) 182: Castro v. Chaffee (looking forward to this battle, Castro will be a handful in this semifinal bout) 220: LaFree v. Berta ( another close match here) 285: McWilliams v. Faulkner (2 beasts, but I've got the bus continuing to roll in this match-up. That said, Faulkner is dangerous either will be a tough draw for someone at SS)
  22. 106: Alexander (WAWA), Sinkovics (MISH), Smith (PLYM), Boynton (PENN) 113:Light(PENN), Penrod(SBR), Mark (MISH), Shumpert (TRIT) 120: Schuller (WAWA), Sparrow (PENN), Hardy (SBW), Coleman (CMA) 126: Alexander (WAWA), DeMien (PENN), Devalt (PLYM), Zahl (SBA) 132: Brooks (WAWA), Bryant (CMA), Weeks (MISH), Hill (PENN) 138: Davis (CMA), Risner (PENN), Stuckman (WAWA), Felke(LAV) 145: LaPlace (MISH), Banks (PLYM), Pack (CMA), Faurote (WAWA) 152: Calhoun (PLYM), Walker (MISH), Brook (CMA), Williams (SBW) 160: Kensinger (MISH), Deadmond (BRE), Sheley (SBR), Harris (SBW) 170: Trefren (CMA), Snyder (TRIT), Brown (PENN), Ortiz (WAWA) 182: Boland (CMA), Castro (WAWA), Chaffee (PENN), Davis (PLYM) 195: Hurley (PENN), Rodriguez (WAWA), Walters (CULC), Sandefur (MISH) 220: LaFree (PLYM), Berta (PENN), Hatter (LAV), Conery (SBSJ) 285: McWilliams (SBW), Faulkner (MISH), Cartwright (LAV), Tipping (WAWA)
  23. Back when Daniel Young won the state title for CMA we made a special singlet for him to wear. His brother had won from Bloomington South with a singlet that had an 'S' like superman. We modified the 'C-ulver' to fit inside a superman logo. It was in school colors and school issued. I think having a unique finals singlet is cool. However, I don't think kids should just wear whatever strikes their fancy. I'm pretty sure that's why the rule states: School issued. That way the school (who the kid is representing) has some say in what they think is appropriate.
  24. This is the key to becoming more dominant. We'd be amazing if there was NEVER a "lock" as long as that was because the depth was so strong. Look at the NCAA's. How many "locks" do you see there this year? How many weight classes have crazy depth where just to be an AA will be tough as can be?
  25. Shots fired... I'm surprised we haven't heard from Bobo Brazil. He's Fabio's biggest fan
