  1. Today.com contacted me and picked up my story. https://www.today.com/health/men-s-health/dad-mystery-brain-illness-rcna147984
  2. The great thing about the sport of wrestling, is that things work themselves out on the mat. I generally love these rankings, and I think the update is wonderful. I also look forward to seeing Colton Gipson exceeding expectations quickly. He went undefeated during his middle school career, dominated middle school state, and was a win away from placing at Tulsa. Probably deserving of at least an honorable mention, but again, it all works out in the mat. Great job overall on the rankings. I appreciate your work.
  3. Thanks guys. I very much appreciate the support I’ve gotten from the Brownsburg wrestling community, and the Central Indiana wrestling community as a whole. I’m firmly convinced that being involved in this great sport has been a key factor in my fight. “Once you’ve wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” -Dan Gable I don’t know about easy, but it definitely helped!
  4. South Bend Riley- John “Ole” Galloway. 3 time state champ and Indiana Football Hall of Famer. My dad’s best friend growing up, and I endured stories about him growing up, assuming they were exaggerated. Turns out, they were not.
  5. Tommy Gibbs IS going to be in the mix. Brutal having to run through Kreija and May. Possibly the 3rd best 150 this year as a sophomore, and there’s not a harder worker in the state.
  6. Brownsburg’s Colton Gipson was a man among boys at 165. 3 TF’s and 2 Majors. The last 2 rounds with his head completely wrapped to control the hash above his eye. Need to have a few bigger boys on the list.
  7. For what it’s worth, Tommy Gibbs is a homegrown Brownsburg kid and is not interested in complaining about any “bad draw.”
  8. Brownsburgs Lincoln Hinchman won 12u 130 with a 13-2 victory in the finals!
  9. When a wrestler checks the corner for choice, gives you the neutral sign, you choose down, and they roll their eyes. “If you want to be neutral, then get neutral!”
  10. I got to wear that Riley singlet several times in the mid 90’s! Sad that I needed “clothing” to motivate me to reach the finals of a tournament, but it definitely helped! Whatever works I guess.
  11. You and Kevin? (Wawasee I think) encouraged us to bribe you to win the clean room contest every morning. You said you liked pizza and country music, so we ordered a pizza the night before, woke up early to warm it up, and put an “Achy Breaky Heart” cassette on when you came in to judge.
  12. Very loosely related, I wish you luck @Clint Gard. I went to the Manchester Wrestling Camp in 94/95 (I believe) with a fading love of wrestling, and you and others reignited it. I’m now a middle school coach(in my 11th season) at Brownsburg, and credit you as one of the influences that made me passionate about the sport. One thing about wrestling is that it always works itself out. Forums don’t influence results. Be well and good luck to your team… and thank you for your mentorship, even if you didn’t realize it was happening.
  13. To add to the mix, why are the periods 2-1-1 when ISWA (USA Wrestling) and ISWCA do 1-1:30-1:30? Same amount of total time. Many kids start the sport in middle school, and a 2 minute first period for a new wrestler is brutal. If they survive that they only have a minute in the next two periods to catch up. So many first period pins in middle school, which I think is the result of the long period. Experienced wrestlers that age are used to the 1-1:30-1:30 timeframe from all of the state and national matches they wrestle. Doesn’t make any sense to me
  14. Possibly (probably) biased Brownsburg middle school coach here. Watch out for Colton Gipson and Deacon Gibbs!
  15. We do 2-1-1 for varsity and 1-1-1 for reserves. I would honestly prefer 1-1:30-1:30.
  16. Dude didn’t start wrestling until 7th grade! Unheard of now a days in a middle weight class. Lots of dedication and hard work, and a great kid.
  17. Just a reminder for next season, kids weigh what they weigh. The key word in honor system weigh ins is “honor”. Be the example. Win or lose honorably. It’s pretty simple.
  18. As a result of @CoachSnyder making my job harder, we have 49 at Brownsburg West Middle school, with more coming soon. Brownsburg East will probably have more, and this is for preseason workouts. Our season doesn’t officially start until the 2nd week of December. The tough part is we don’t have a room, or gym access yet, so we had a couple mat strips in the hallways, a couple in the cafeteria, a couple on the stage. Thanks a lot Darrick.
  19. I know my view is colored by “being there”, but I vividly remember the shock of Devon Nelson from Mishawaka getting pinned in the finals as a junior and a senior. His senior year, he was something like 55-0, and I’m pretty sure he had the match well in hand. May not fit the criteria as the best to come up short, but it’s definitely the biggest in my personal memory.
  20. I found it, but there’s no dashboard. So, results it is.
  21. I can’t find the tournament on track.
  22. I’m usually pretty good at this, but I can’t find the HCC tournament on track! Gotta know how my Brownsburg Bulldogs are doing! Help please!
  23. I’ve been waiting for a comeback from North with all of the Elementary Dual success. They lost to PH by 60ish last year if memory serves correctly, and had a ton of holes. Good for them!
  24. It was really impressive to watch both Avon and EMD! Well trained, hard working kids. Congrats!
