Mat Shark reacted to cbultemeier in Prayers needed for a young Bellmont wrestler
Dear wrestling fans family and community. I am Corbin Bultemeier the father of Remington who was injured in a freak incident December 4th. We want to thank everyone in the wrestling community as well as Indiana Mat for the overwhelming support for Remy during this traumatic time. It has simply been amazing what prayers have done for him during his recovery. In the post below I will post his most report from Dr's today. Thanks again and God Bless you all! If you would like to follow the journey feel free to search and friend me on Facebook. I will gladly give you the opportunity follow along as his life changes directions. God put a sharp turn in the road but it wasn't a dead end.

Well we were able to meet with Remington's neurosurgeon, Dr. Fulkerson today. He reminded Remy that he was a very lucky young man....many with such injuries end up in wheelchairs. He was extremely pleased with Remy's progress and his x-rays looked great!

Unbelievably, Dr. Fulkerson released Remy without restrictions! Yes, after expecting Remy to be out of all activities for 1 entire year, he released him before we could even ask him what the future restrictions would be and how long. That includes skiing and tubing at the lake this summer (without kamikaze actions), shooting a gun for Turkey season, shooting archery for bow fishing as well as leading his new hunting dog Cabela and 4H animals.

As you can see, we have tried to focus on the positive side of the other activities that Remy enjoys. He's been Blessed in so many ways!

The one tough discussion that Remy had today was Dr. Fulkerson explaining the risk of impact sports in Remington's future. He explained that as an individual of a sports family and a son of a former coach, he recognizes the importance of sports in a young athletes life. He said he knows it's "everything" in the first 18 yrs. but emphasized the ability to be productive for the following 80 yrs. He explained that he can't totally say no to football and wrestling but stongly feels they should be out. He feels that the risk is too great for the reward since Remy's neck has lost so much of its ability to absorb the shock in such sports.

At this point, we don't have to go back to Indy until December. At that time, we will discuss whether the rods will stay in permanently or whether Remy will need to have surgery to remove them. His neck will be healed enough at that point that they won't be necessary and removing them will depend on how Remy's body tolerates them as he increases his level of activity. In this case, Remy will have time to see how he is able to function with them on a daily basis.

Again, God and his earthly healing hand, known as Dr. Fulkerson have been amazing with Remy in this journey. Not only did they save his life but restored his mobility in just 3 months. We truly believe the unceasing prayers from all of you have helped guide the healing hands of Dr. Fulkerson as he put Remington' s broken body back together. We will be forever be indebted to all that have supported us in this endeavor. Thanks again and God Bless all of you!

"It's not about what I was, It's about what I'll become."

A motto that I came up with in the event that Remy's dreams must change.

Mat Shark got a reaction from Old School H in Anyone know who's hosting RTC in NWI ?
Why even wait for an official appointment by whoever? Why all the hoops to jump through anyways?
Hobart is such a great location and has many respected coaches.

Instead of an RTC it could be RTR (Regional Training Room)

(If one day the stars and moon line up and someone returns your calls or emails about hosting an RTC, you can then change the RTR to RTC)

Just post what day and time you are having an open mat session at your club on this site.

I would request proof of current USA wrestling card to cover liability issues.

    Oops wrong sport.

Do we still need 2 Qualifiers?

    B. Lee is very smooth on his feet and being that fluid as a lefty simply baffles high school kids. It appears he is simply drilling during live matches.

Sure divide our state by 3 and have each state champ have barely over 100 kids to start the state series.
Why not destroy the strength of our state tournament as we now starting to get national attention and respect?
    This is a terrible idea.

I understand funk as we know it today via Askren, Delgado etc. with their scrambles. However, for the pure unpredictable and unorthodox approaches, Rick Sanders and Rico Chiaparelli still hold court. Any others able to hit you with anything and everything in all positions?

First of all congratulations. I'm pretty sure that he was the lowest ranked guy to win a state title since indianamat has started.(sometimes ranking really don't mean anything). You put together a amazing run congrats to Eli and the entire Monrovia family. The question I have is when is the last time a guy lost in the regional and won state next year? Every kid out there who needs motivation for next year doesnt have to look very far.

if small schools want success start a club and build from there if that's what it takes. But I feel separating by class takes away from winning a title for all classes. Maybe I'm wrong if all the top kids wrestle year round and meet in the off season they know who's best I suppose but I still say it's not as special winning a title in a class system. I believe in 1 state 1 champion per weight. I watched my brother finish runner up over the weekend to a 2A kid. If it were classed he would have obviously won. I would have rather watched him get 2nd in a single class system than to win a "1A state title". Just my thoughts on it.

I have had the good fortune to see a lot of great matches in a variety of locations around the world. This match was one of the most entertaining I have ever seen. I know I can say this with 100% certainty....I have never seen a standing ovation for 3rd place heavyweight match anywhere on the planet.

Mat Shark reacted to GrecoCoach in ISWA Coaching requirements
Here are the salaries of the ISWA leaders...
    Chairman (a.k.a. President) - $0
    Vice Chairman (x2) - $0
    Treasurer - $0
    Secretary - $0

The ISWA only has 2 paid positions, the office workers, who make close to minimum wage.
The ISWA is a not-for-profit organization and is required by law to publish their annual budget that shows a 0 net profit.  Ask a local club rep to see a copy since it is always provided in the annual meeting information.

JMILL is correct that USAW sets the membership prices for coaches, athletes, and officials.  The money goes to USAW, but they do give back a small portion (maybe $5  per membership) to the states.  If the ISWA were really only about the money, then they should discourage coaches from buying membership and collecting the $10 gate per state tournament from each coach.  Letting the coaches in for free is costing them a lot of money.

I spoke to three W.A owners on different occasions throughout the state and they all have said that numerous kids get treated differently when they come back to their HS wrestling programs. Not sure about the other w.a's out there. It is no secret that most wrestling coaches have healthy egos.
Anyone close to HS programs and W.A know this goes on to some extent.
But it takes a village to raise a kid.
Indiana has plenty of caring coaches.
