wrestlenewbie got a reaction from Disco in Who will be our 2.3 annual D1 AAs and 11.3 annual smaller-division AAs this year?
I have it at 2 AAs this year based on current Intermat rankings. Of course, anything they do to improve their seeds over their rankings at their conference tournaments will increase that total.

The far right column is the probability of AAing based on fitted results from 2010 - 2023.

Lee won the first match 12-3. Diakomihalis hit his head during the match and was unable to take the mat for match 2, forfeiting to Lee.

Lee will represent the US at the Pan-Am OG Qualifier at the end of the month. Not sure who will represent the US at the Pan-Am Championship the week prior. The US has to enter someone at the Championship in order to go to the Qualifier.

I think Real Woods was surprised it wasn't a pinfall, too.

I remember a wrestler saying they had a facilities problem that makes it tough to recruit. The one time I met Angel Escabedo he seemed like a very nice guy. I would like to see him succeed.

Is Chad Red still with the RTC? I haven't seen him compete anywhere? Or is he coaching?

Pretty nice recruiting class coming in the next two years for the hoosiers. Sam Goin, Lucas Peters(WI state champ), Chris Crawford (Wyoming Sem), Ryan Garvick ( PA Runner up and national ranked, pinned Rhinehart at ironman), Nick Pavlecho (PA placer, top 10 in the country at heavy), Matt Hart ( Ironplacer, beat Brady Ison there), Caleb Marzolino ( PA guy- Fargo AA), Tyler Guerra from IL (2x state placer and ironman placer). They also picked up a few more studs from Ohio. Angel looks to be really trying to get these PA guys that might sit on the bench for a couple years at blueblood schools to come and wrestle for the Hoosiers, which is good news. Should have some decent depth after this year for the next couple seasons. But to answer the question of competing for a B10 title, no not for alongggg time.

I think you missed the key point.  Yes, many countries refuse to issue visas to citizens of other countries.

UWW is obligated to picks hosts that will not refuse visas to citizens of counties.

Iran had not been given the opportunity to host a world championship, because it refused to grant visas to Israelis athletes.  I personally agree with the UWW’s decison not to grant the hosting roles because of that.

it is really pretty simple, you want to host a championship?  Great, you yoi have to give visas to all participants.

UWW should have never let Albania host the championship.

I think counties like Japan, Canada, New Zealand, and most western and Northern European countries are far better choices.

    Not true. Quite the opposite.

Only In Tokyo he was hysterically crying and screaming. Which is different from yelling AT people.

    He also kicked a chair.

But if you are 10 seconds away from being double Olympic champ, all your life's work etc, and lose it last second, given how he always carries himself so well. One moment of indiscretion. I would let him off...

    From earlier:

World championships the year before the Olympics is just as hard as the Olympics. You get every nation's best, at their best--because it's an Olympic qualifying tournament.

Stevan Micic is into the gold medal match after knocking off the 2021 Olympic champ and 2022 reigning World champ in back-to-back matches.

Our suspicions were correct. He is an all-time great.

My first date with my now wife we went waterskiing. She started from the dock and finished on the dock. She didn't get wet above her ankles. I knew then and there I needed to marry that woman.

Looks like you have a house guest. Just not the one you want. Steveson chooses to stick with minor league fake wrestling.

For Olympic Trials they do this all on two days, unlike Final X where there are weeks between the challenge tournament and the final.

This makes a bye to the final an even bigger advantage as you are wrestling someone who is more beat up and has had to make weight two days in a row.

NEWTON, Iowa — After injuring his neck in the 2021 World Team Trials, Michigan’s Mason Parris wrestled the entire 2021-22 college season battling through pain and loss of feeling in his left side.

Entering the 2022-23 season, the Wolverine senior — who finished second nationally in 2021 and fifth in 2022 — was finally healthy and recuperated from a long road of recovery. But Michigan head coach Sean Bormet still considered redshirting his star heavyweight.

Parris, meanwhile, felt confidently that this would be the year all his hard work would culminate in a national title.

Parris made Bormet make one promise, though: he would wrestle every single match without sitting out, even the season-opening Michigan State Open that some of the other Wolverine starters often would not attend.

Now, six months later after capturing an NCAA title in dominant fashion and compiling an unblemished 33-0 season record, Parris has officially been named the recipient of the 2023 WIN Magazine/Culture House Dan Hodge Trophy awarded to the nation’s top college wrestler.

    I believe he does.

He red-shirted in 2019. He was a red-shirt freshman in 2020. 2021 was the free year. So 2022 would be year 2 of his eligibility. And this year would be year 3.
