I feel it is a little remiss to say that the schools who declined your invite don’t value the team state tournament or don’t understand how to put our kids in a position to qualify for the team state duals. As you know, it can be difficult to move your schedule around due to conference and sectional obligations, as well as just contractual obligations. We sent you an invite to wrestle in a dual meet and you guys were not able to make it work because of contractual obligations. No hard feelings, but I think it’s unfair to make that claim. -

Do all 4A schools start at the same line? If we made the tournament more fair, but we lost 10-15% of our participants, would that be an acceptable trade-off? -

Is this an example of the "crowdedness" that determines the category numbers that was referenced by @maligned a few weeks back? Hobart Regional has 2, 8-team Sectionals that feed into it = 16 total schools Logansport Regional has 2, 12-team Sectionals that feed into it = 24 total schools. Not at all disagreeing with Brick, I think it's a valid question. Just trying to wrap my head around the math and how the categories are determined. -

So this is one thing that has always tripped me up....if I am in a category 5 Regional, and I lose to the Regional champ first round, I earn Semi-State Qualifier points? Theoretically, if I finish 4th in my Sectional and lose to the champ in the 1st round at Regionals, I could score more points than the kid I lost to for 3rd place at Sectionals? Yet, at some other Regionals (Category 3 or lower), you could have a kid who places 4th in the Regional and actually qualify for the Semi-State also score less than the same kid who is in a Category 5 and placed 4th in his Sectional? -

Are the new classifications going to be released sooner than the standings? I know the same enrollment numbers will be used, but there will still probably be some moving around with the teams with 7 or less wrestlers removed. -
Page 77 of the Winter Bulletin states: "Coaches should strive to keep open minds when seeding assignments are being decided. The main objective of seeding is to have outstanding wrestlers separated in the brackets so that they will not meet each other until the finals. Seeding should be based upon the wrestler's proven ability and not upon the desire for unwarranted advantage." In an email I received, it stated that last night on the phone call that criteria does not need to be used if there is a 100% consensus for a seed. By my interpretation, in the above scenario, if Wrestler H at 22-0 deserves the 1 seed and there is a 100% consensus in the room, then he can get the 1 seed. If one coach disagrees, then we must follow criteria.

Biscuits and Gravy were great! @hogleg's only complaint was that there was no Frank's Red Hot to drizzle on top of it! The pretzel donuts were also quite the hit. I thought Jay County did a great job hosting. Only having one hotel in town made it difficult for us as I believe they booked over our block of rooms that we reserved about 3 months prior. But the environment was awesome, the announcer was great, and the gym was super loud. This is my favorite tournament of the year and was happy to be a part of it!
