  1. +1 This has gotten a bit ridiculous. The brackets released Saturday night were credible and what was posted was an exact interpretation of the formula that was mistakenly released. Was anyone upset we got to see the brackets earlier than usual? Probably not. Some official jumped the gun and the IHSAA likely changed the formula to maintain the integrity of the tournament. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I took from this "fiasco"
  2. Place me on the side of not classing the tournament. I have always loved watching a kid from a small school win against a kid from a bigger school/great program. The kid from the 2003 championship from Turkey Run gave me straight goosebumps. I guess one amendment I would be in favor of is the addition of 8 more wrestlers heading to state. Two more per SS obviously and four ticket round losers would have to win another match to get the state berth. The top two wrestlers from each SS are given a bye. In each six man section of the bracket the draws would look like this: 6 Vs 3 winner faces 2 seed 5 Vs 4 winner faces 1 seed Or like the NFL playoffs Lowest remaining seed from 3-6 wrestlers faces 2 seed Highest remaining seed from 3-6 wrestlers faces 1 seed However I'm not going to get on this forum and act like my opinion means much of anything. I'm not a coach, simply a fan and former wrestler from Kankakee Valley. And as a fan I just hope the sport can continue to have an exciting product like the SS and state tournaments.
  3. Yes I would include Streck in that trio good point.
  4. Covaciu kept trying for that throw and Lawrence was able to counter and get some takedowns. I believe Lawrence got a takedown and the Covaciu got a quick reversal before the wrestlers were ruled out of bounds and this made it 6-5. The Portage crowd went nuts as they didn't think he got that reversal in time. Then an escape so it was 6-6 and Bam got another takedown followed by an escape for an 8-7 finish
  5. 106 Klayton Anderson v Christian Hunt is quite a death draw
  6. KV does have a pretty big gym but I don't think they could handle a SS. Just thinking about the biggest schools in the Merrillville SS. Penn Merrillville Valparaiso Portage Chesterton LaPorte Michigan City Chesterton Lake Central Hobart Munster Lafayette Jefferson West Lafayette Harrison Lafayette McCutcheon Warsaw Mishawaka East Chicago Highland/Logansport (I guess) Kankakee Valley/Lowell are also reasonably sized From this list I just don't know if there really is a better suitor in terms of a high school. We wouldn't know unless some different schools were used I suppose.
  7. That's why I said could. Tyler Ferguson is a good wrestler, and I wouldn't count him out.
  8. Anyone have a chance to muddle up a Streck/Oglesby matchup or is it pretty inevitable? Streck looked pretty dominant yesterday.
  9. 120 is quite the barn burner. Breyden Bailey Vs Jeremiah Reitz could be a great one.
  10. While I realize Merrillville isn't a "centralized" location, it is at least conviently located a few blocks from I 65. East Chicago would be quite a drive for everyone. Valpo U would be fantastic but owning the ARC on a Saturday this time of year would be difficult.
  11. Hey thanks for the sneak peak fellas. Also after watching Cummings wrestle yesterday, it's gonna take a monumental effort to knock this kid out. He was the most dominant wrestler outside of Tommy Forte if you asked me at the Mville SS.
  12. I attended the semistate yesterday I got there at the beginning of the ticket round. It was a struggle to see the mats directly below as I was sitting in the bleachers opposite the scorers table. That can certainly be frustrating, i had to run down and fanagle a spot standing up to see Sopko/Schurg and Rodriguez/Lukaszka which I really wanted to see. After the ticket round it's like a different venue because they can pull out the bleachers. All that being said I thought it was a decent experience and I have no complaints about the announcer, I mean sure he could've researched a bit and been able to read the names a bit better but I guess the announcer is an afterthought for me. To me one great thing about a cramped venue is when the crown gets rocking. The Covaciu/Lawrence match as well as Black/Reitz had that place rocking and that was pretty cool. Sure it would be nice if the place had double the seats but it's got some charm if you've seen your share of SS events there. I
  13. Lawrence over COVACIU!!!! 8-7 dec
  14. Brendan BLACK over REITZ 6-4 great match
  15. Schurg avenges loss to Dodson via pin in the 2nd
  16. Laughlin (Riley) HUGE win in the championship sticking The always tough Zach Donaldson...4th place regional finisher to SS champ!
  17. Wild finish with Akers and McIntosh. Scramble with less than 10 seconds left and called out of bounds with McIntosh just that close to a takedown. Controversial call, especially according to the Portage fans lol. I thought it was the right call just my opinion
  18. Man B Truver is just wrestling "out of his mind" ...just pinned Diaz
  19. Miller holds off DelaPena... Brendan Black sticks Hardesty in the 1st...Reitz leads Hatch setting up a possible rematch of great wrestlers
  20. Anderson over Cavanaugh 4-3 good match
  21. Man that Rodriguez v Lukaszka was great...Rodriguez wins 15-10 Schurg over Sopko...fairly convincing Wow Mammolenti that close to grttig pinned: now winning 14-5 in the 2nd
  22. How is the weather up there? I was gonna leave an hour ago from Demotte but it's blowing and snowing furiously.
  23. Hughes handed Schurg a pretty decisive loss...11-0 I believe in the Crown town regional
