Coach, I'm not sure how IU can recruit higher than Oliver or Skatzka last year. Or a Weaver and Danishek the year prior. I don't have an answer on how to get better kids than that. Thus why I suggested the people on this thread to actually inject their expertise on the subject directly to the people that make those decisions. I am positive that no one in that room likes where they are at the moment.

Smooth, I am assuming you have read the entire thread. If so, you would see how this has escalated to basically me saying stop complaining and actually DO something about it. I take personally anyone who hides behind a screen name and tries to destroy the credibility of another man, regardless who that man is. I don't owe Goldman or SIMMONS or Pascoe a thing. People think I am vested in the program? I am not. My son has a business relationship with IU. That is it. I do however have more respect for those who want to do rather than those that want to not do. Thus the reason I posted what you quoted. I wonder what response you would get if you actually did email the coaches and voiced your concern? It may lead to a tangible conversation as to where you made a difference in the program. An idea that perhaps Goldman, in his 25+ years of coaching never thought of. But to sit behind a keyboard and slash people who will never get on a forum such as this and defend themselves, I take exception to. That is it.

To echo the words of Dingo, we all want IU to be a powerhouse program. We have different ways of expressing it. But we want it nevertheless.

Even if they don't receive any money at all just by getting the chance to wrestle in college might be what helps get that kid through school... I know if it wasn't for sports in high school I probably wouldn't have ever made good enough grades to get into college...

Now whether college is right for that kid or not is a whole different topic of discussion... Lots of kids take on huge amounts of debt just to go to college and it ends up hurting them even more in the long run.

    But it doesn't...

Is it really THAT important? lol I get your point but you're searching for things here... I would say its the same thing as you guys putting out data for 3 classes yet arguing for a 2 class system...

This is a solid point but the fact of the matter is that is up to the college recruiter to decide. (Thinking about the kids here...) Does it really matter? As long as it is another one of INDIANA's kids going to wrestle and not IL or PA. What if you have a DIII college there who can't offer athletic scholarships so most "GOOD" kids wouldn't want to attend there but they find a 1A kid who doesn't have any other offers and this is the one opportunity he has to go to college? This is how I could see more kids going to college to wrestle from a classed system. Yes I would agree most DI programs aren't going to be heavily recruiting 1A high school kids but maybe smaller schools will...

For me it's simple, in wrestling either you are one of the best or you're not. Wrestling a sport that involves hard work, talent and determination. If you are an exceptional wrestler and make it to State regardless of school size, you deserve to be there. Wrestling shouldn't have to cater to anyone or to a class system, it's the toughest sport there is! I started wrestling when I was 4 and never left the mat year round (like most of us). I put in the hard work and still never made it to State. Never once, did I consider class wrestling to be an option. I wasn't one of the best in the state and that's a simple fact. Large school, small school, podunk town...it doesn't matter where you come from, if you aren't one of the best you won't make it to State. I think that's what makes our sport so great!

You do have me confused with someone else, there is no MAYBE about it. I was never good enough for anyone outside the Carroll regional to know who I was.

It's funny how your attitude changes when you are called out on being an idiot and thinking you know everything.

Maybe YOUR attitude with me would change when you realize I'm not who you think I am.

Well of course... But one could say at 1A schools kids get more 1 on 1 time from coaches when there is only 4 kids on the team... That would be an advantage too... Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages to each situation... Just like life...

No I could honestly care less if big or little schools have it "better offr" I just want to help improve the sport and get more kids participating... And the data shows at the end of the day class wrestling doesn't accomplish this task...

Yeah and the classed states FF about 2 more weight classes than our big schools... It just transferred the pain from small schools to big schools and hurt the overall participation rates even more than they already are...

No the Forfeit data actually showed states with classed wrestling have about 1 more FF per team than we do in our single class system... There was another thread a while ago with all the data in it but classing actually hurt the overall participation rates...

No they are doing it their own way... And like we discussed before actually have a worse FF % than we do here in our "horrible" single class system... So the classed system didn't in any way help participation % which is the whole idea of classing the sport... Yeah it helped the little schools but hurt the big schools and at the end of the day did more damage than good... So i see no point in shifting the pain from small schools to big schools just to cause even more harm to the sport in general...

The 11% may put 27% of the participants into sectionals, but they still only represent 11% of the student body or wrestlers. The 39% of sectional participants represent 2/3 of the student body and wrestlers in the state, so again I'm struggling to see how this isn't a fair representation of each wrestling class.

Based on your logic, we should expect a bball team with 5 players to win as many games (on average) as a team with 12-15, as they can only play 5 at a time. (sure it could happen, but it won't on average) To accurately measure fairness of state finals participation you must factor the student populations and the number of wrestlers in the programs, you can't simply count the number of sectional participants. This would allow you to assess the probability that any high school wrestler (JV or Varsity) has of making the state tournament.

It's crazy that those numbers almost mirror the total population of each class. Which is BTW what you would staistically expect, which shows that things in terms of qualifiers is realitivily fair.
The total population of the schools is BY FAR the biggest advantage big schools have, yet when it comes down to looking at the numbers we should ignore that fact and just say that each team enters 14 kids at sectionals?
You have to take the total population into account. That was the original group that big schools have to choose from. The problem with doing this of course is that the facts show a slight disadvantage to 1A and 3A schools and a slight advantage to being from a 2A school, which doesn't fit the class fans narritive, so you guys choose to ignore that fact.
The numbers are similar every year, and every year the numbers mirror the total populations. Which again is staistically what you would expect.
