Semi state was a disappointment for me, especially when your younger brother placed at state and brings it up every year!

In my opinion, and maybe only mine, it's a significant accomplishment. I don't think it would be surprising that many members on this board are skewed to the right of the accomplishment curve. Why wouldn't they lean towards the Semi-State as a minor accomplishment. But, how many thousands of kids over the years have worked their fannies off, had successful careers, and not qualified for State?

Planning on doing a write-up for this tournament. Competed three years here and it was always a lot of fun. Super tough competition for anybody.

I was an Evansville SS qualifier
with wins over 3-4 state placers both my jr and senior year

Luckily for us it is harder and harder to do that. Even if it isn't the home school a neighboring coach or parent will usually tip us off on guys to watch.
Too bad people subscribe to this ancient theory. Promote your kids and program, it's good and will bring recognition to everyone for their hard work. Everyone likes recognition for the work they put in.

This makes too much sense. But many got to keep results secret for some reason. Then be upset when kids flying under radar get no recognition. Sheeesh

Here is a great place to put in results
https://indianamat.com/index.php?/individual_result.html/2023-results/
Without input from coaches, parents, fans, and even the wrestlers we don't get every result out there. The rankers get a list of the key wins and losses on their master spreadsheet so inputting this information helps tremendously.

I spent a good bit of time watching it Friday and Saturday and not just our kids. I think your coach said it best, "seeing the kid, that beat our kid, get beat the next round and then that kid gets beat, rinse and repeat..." I think that about sums it up. How in the heck is there that much time to get better when you're working five or six days per week year round?
-
gsmith58 reacted to Mattyb in An Indiana Wrestling Fan's Guide to the Walsh Jesuit Ironman
I was thinking about that today… the number of undefeated state champs from Indiana is going to go waaaay down from this point forward. With that said… the level of talent will be elevated to something that we have never seen prior. IMO
Just go watch @Y2CJ41 interviews with both head coaches. These are guys that have coached guys like Mendez and BLee. They have been around greatness, and they were amazed of what we all saw this past weekend. Can’t wait for next year!

BROADY should probably be ranked. State and Semi State

May is solid and deserves the recognition. He's going to do very well.
However, the slide on Tishner in both rankings is curious. He has stellar records against multiple opponents listed above him in both ranking. Heck, he took Ashton Jackson and Toby Billerman into overtime over the summer. Even the loss that is likely influencing his ranking was in overtime to a very good wrestler.

No disrespect intended. The Feeler reference was probably the overall ranking. Early on, I think he was better than his ranking portrayed. Again, that's just opinion.
I'm not related to Zane, and I'm not sure I've ever spoken to him. Seems like a good kid though. Last year in one of the podcasts around the Semi-State I recall Mike R. saying that Gavin Bragg was 'kind of a' ranking yardstick. My bias come from using my son as a yardstick. He wrestled most of these guys over the years.
I just think Zane should be up a few spots higher based on those observations (he has a pretty wicked cross-wrist tilt). Like you said, it's difficult when they don't have the same exposure/opportunity that kids around Indy, Evansville, and the NW. Which is, in large part, why I chose to toss in my two cents

Haha, with the schedule that Cathedral wrestles on top of that they go to different areas of the state they are probably less than 7 degrees away from any wrestler.

Yeah, that's how I took it at the time and it makes sense to me. I just thought that made Bragg the Kevin Bacon of wrestling. And while I'm thinking about he's rated too low too

Fixed both the Brownsburg issues. They are paying @TripleB a lot to get more kids in the rankings.
