  1. Gaskin's brother was very good too. It's been so long, I don't know which one it was but his battle with May was my introduction to serious wrestling.
  2. Sometimes, it is difficult to know which is which. Are you suggesting that Thrine won't score? That sounds 'Serious.' As someone else said, if I was forced to bet, I'd place money on Jake, but holding Thrine scoreless might shock me more than the Frazier upset. In all 'seriousness,' did you pick Thrine to beat Frazier?
  3. This! I could see either kid winning in any fashion. The idea that either one is a lock is silly. Maybe one blows out the other, and in hindsight, it's clear as day, but it's not at this present moment. I thought Frazier was a lock...turned out he wasn't.
  4. To this day, I can remember Bradin wrestling with my son in the CIA room on Sundays. The Daniels would drive him and Blayne over for practice. My son is several years older than Bradin, but Bradin always gave him fits. I can recall chuckling when my son would come over from a break saying something like 'He won't quit." To which my response was, "You're right, and you're going to need to beat him off with a stick." Watching his final match on Saturday against Rowles (who is a headlock waiting to happen) reminded me of that. The kid does not give up.
  5. Having Bloomington below New Prairie, New Pal, Jay County, LaPorte, North Montgomery, but ever so slightly above North Posey (no disrespect intended to those schools), indicates the AI was trained by researchers on the south end of 40 years of age who forgot to feed it the IHSAA Record Books or IndianaMat as sources. Bloomington should be close to the top. And I agree with the Muncie South reference (1974: Smith, Holmes, Pritchard, Evans.)
  6. Alright, gentleman, its in the books. Get to work. I want my magazine.
  7. Freestyle or not, that's a list of eye-opening results. And there are several you didn't highlight (Wood over Leavell, Henderson over Bollinger, etc.)
  8. That's true, but falling short to one of, if not the, greatest Heavyweight(s) in USA history might deserve a little consideration.
  9. Jake's a strong case for certain, but the freshman Thrine taking out a national-ranked senior has to be right there. Prior to Saturday night, would anyone have been surprised if either Jake or Ashton won another title? I would bet the most ardent Thrine supporters thought it would be a big lift to beat Frazier. That is not to say no one thought it was possible, only it was less likely. If what Thrine did isn't the definition of "Outstanding," I don't know what is. That's not to take away from either Jake or Joey they were great. While I'm at it, has any of the other freshman phenoms taken out a national-ranked wrestler in the finals?
  10. It's a tradition. Darn, how I miss those days (and nights)
  11. He's not from the south and he knows his stuff. Clearly, he will critique. I suspect it's a habit he's acquired over a few years
  12. Have to root for Ayden. Great kid, has a great family, hard worker, and is entertaining. What more do you need?
  13. Tasmanian Devil is a more apt caricature. I wouldn't bet against him introducing chaos.
  14. I don't know that the pictures/video are a fair comparison; timing is a big part. The New Castle crowd thinned out considerably towards the end. It was still a good crowd, but nothing like the first few rounds. If I'm not mistaken, the image of Evansville was in the finals. These appear to be in the earlier rounds. That said, New Castle is a great environment.
  15. Ha! I'm guessing you've already calculated the various scenarios
  16. Speaking of Baker, he took a loss to Baylor (Milan, 41-0) at IHPO. Could be an interesting 106 championship match with Crull at Richmond.
  17. Southport Sectional 113 - Kyla Johnson (3rd)
  18. If he's anything like he was as a youngster, he has a non-stop motor. And, he has no quit.
  19. One might wonder who those bigger guys at Cobra the '6th grade' Leighton was wrestling? I'd take a stab that Leighton was somewhere between 165-180 back then. I still recall the astonishment when I told my 70lb son that the kid wrestling Lee and Brewer was a year younger than him.
  20. Different rankers with different views (literally and figuratively), and different voices in their ears. How they have the time to do it is remarkable. Coordination might be asking a bit much. That Bollinger & Horn match should be fun.
  21. I'm not sure that these guys went through Fort Wayne (New Castle), but love seeing them out there. Opps, missed the correction further up...
  22. That's great. Did you come up with the, absolutely appropriate, Combat Queen or is that her nickname around East Central Indiana? With her and Ocampo, in close matches, they just bide time waiting for their opponents first big mistake.
  23. I see your point on 'make a run to the finals.' That makes sense. My focus was on Darkhorse aspect which implies, to me, out of the top ten. Would anyone be shocked to see her make the semis? One never knows with the draws. Aren't all three are coming out of different Regionals; I would expect, worse case scenario, a three. She certainly could overcome that. I mean, she did just win Al Smith. Not to mention, she's a State Qualifier who held her own with a very good State Runner up.
