  1. Did you see Y2 sitting matside smiling as big as the sky when OK St choose down in the second?
  2. Saw Y2 sitting matside on 5. He was grinning ear to ear when OK St chooses down on Drew Hughes. Needless to say it was a huge mistake.
  3. Fair point, but its representative of zero growth. If a guy is ranked 12th in his freshman year one would expect the progression is to 2 or 3 time AA, not 4 time qualifier. That said he looks the best he's been in years and primed for a deep run. Hopefully it turns into an AA Sr season.
  4. That's spot on. I think the current local tourney formats are a turnoff. Trying to squeeze HS thru K wrestlers into one gym(s) and making kids wait all day to wrestle twice is turning kids away not growing the sport. I understand local clubs have to generate revenue and this has always been the model but maybe we need to explore other options. Volunteers put countess hours in to make these tourneys go, and not one of them intentionally makes kids wait for 5 hours between matches. Unfortunately it still happens and will continue to happen under the current system. Wouldn't that volunteer time be better spent on something that was driving interest in our sport, or at the very least not driving them away? I'm not sure what that looks like, but maybe some Round Robin as Galagore mentions or the evening tourneys where kids can get in and out quick. More age specific events?
  5. Awesome finish! Congrats to National Champion Darden Schurg!
  6. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6394462-an-outsiders-take-on-the-big-ten-championships An interesting take from a wrestling neophyte. I think he hits on a lot of what's good (skill level, athleticism and competitiveness) about the sport and some of what's bad (singlets, etc...). Red really impressed the writer with athletic ability, determination and showmanship. As much as myself and many others on the board love the way Nick Lee takes care of business in a workmanlike fashion and when he wins he acts like he's been there, this doesn't move the fan needle. We need to recognize there is a place for both, and when competing for fan interest, like it or not, guys like Red are the ones keeping fans watching.
  7. Wonderful story, great article. Kudos to coach Hoover, and all involved Thanks for posting Y2
  8. Weather permitting, it should be an interesting matchup. I'm excited to see if Lee can show some seperation or if Red can bring back his form and pull the upset. It's getting hyped on flo and intermat. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6317221-live-this-week-jan-17-20-2019
  9. Some good press for Parris. http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/21183
  10. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/03/18/world/europe/russia-dagestan-wrestling.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fworld&action=click&contentCollection=world&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=2&pgtype=sectionfront&referer=https://www.nytimes.com/section/world Youth participation in wrestling thwarts extremism, not a bad attribute for any sport.
  11. Lol. Your point was still valid, IN wrestling is on the uptick.
  12. We are actually 6th. Although CA and MI would drop, both OK and IA would move up on a per capita basis. Still pretty impressive.
  13. I agree. Micic is wrestling at such a high level. His top game has grown by leaps and bounds and his neutral looks better (and he was pretty darn good on his feet already). I think he handles Pletcher and believe he can pull one out with Gross.
  14. Secondarily, do you believe this helps or hurts the argument that class wrestling would significantly improve forfeits?
  15. http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/19842 What do you think of contracting weights for dual purposes? It seemed like quite a few folks on the board were in favor of this. How do you see it impacting participation?
  16. With Sinkovics and H. Lee claiming NAIA titles, i contemplated which IN kids are the hopefuls in 3 NCAA divisions. Here of my thoughts, but I'd like to hear your opinions. D1 133 Micic (solid) There is a Jackrabbit that will have a lot to say about that, but Micic has been wrestling great and he'll come in on the opposite side of the bracket. 141 N. Lee (outside) Getting AA at that weight will be quite an accomplishment for a true frosh. PSU has a knack for getting kids to peak at NCAAs and we all know Lee is putting the work in, so who knows maybe he pulls a Cinzo. D2 125 Glogouski 141 Nick Crume (solid) Crume has been right there his first 3 years. Going 5th, 2nd, and 5th. I think he caps off an amazing career at UIndy with a Title! 157 Kemper D3 133 Owen Doster AA last year and has improved. He certainly has a reasonable shot at it. 157 Kyle Hatch Has been really good this year and is ranked top 5 coming in. 149 Austin Bethel Never know when he might pin a wrestler or two he wasn't supposed to. He has been improving at the right time. 174 Darden Schurg Probably the most solid (along with Doster) of the of group in respect to his title chances. He has been wrestling great and ranked #2 for most of the year. How off base, or overly optimistic am I? Who did i leave off that has a shot at a title this year?
  17. Sinkovics and Lee get small write ups. https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/19831
  18. A lot of people will be rooting for Carr.
  19. http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/19815 Sinkovics becomes a 4 time all american. One of 68 in NAIA history
  20. 125 Lee (3) 133 Micic (4) 141 Lee (1) 149 Retherford (10) 157 Kimmerer (7) 165 Joseph (2) 174 Hall (8) 184 Nickal (9) 197 Moore (6) Hwt Snyder (5) PSU 130 pts
  21. I think you are right. It sounds like an attempt to squeeze a settlement out of the school corp. I still feel bad for the kid, because clearly he isnt driving the bus on this.
  22. It certainly isn't an easy position to be in as a coach, parent, admin, and especially the athlete. I wouldnt want to be that coach, but if i were i would try to do my best not to single the kid out. That said i wonder what kind of legal exposure might that create from parents of the other kids on the team?
  23. Talk on the Yappi board suggests that the coach may have been told by others after the season started. The coach then presented to Admins. Again this is just message board chatter so take it for what it's worth, but it sounds like the coach is pretty well respected. Timing is a bit suspect as the team is preparing to host districts this weekend, so there may have been planning for maximum effect.
