I know you know thus stuff MM but for the benefit of the IndianaMat community...I think he'll be well taken care of. There's actually a decent wrestling culture in Serbia, it's just more Greco. They had 3 of 6 weights qualify for the Olympics coming thru the loaded Euro region.
More importantly, the president of international wrestling, Nenad Lalovic, is a filthy rich Serbian businessman. If Micic shows even slight signs of medal capability, I'm certain he'll be taken care of very, very well.

Great idea I hope it works. With this said, we have not been able to fill two teams in the past.
I would encourage anyone who can to attend these duals. It is the best tournament for this age group in all of USA and it is here in Indiana!
Wrestle feestyle and Greco and go to national duals!!!!!

    By JEREMY HINES

It was the moment Cathedral’s Jordan Slivka had dreamed about his whole life. He was about to wrestle under the lights at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse with a weight-class and the team state championship on the line.
“Earlier in the day I had told my coaches that I knew it was going to come down to me,” Slivka said. “I just had that feeling. That’s not a dig on my teammates, but I just knew it was going to come down to me. That’s what I wanted. If there was anyone in the state that I would want in that position, I’d choose me.”
Slivka battled for six minutes with Yorktown’s undefeated senior Christian Hunt. In the end, Slivka emerged victorious in the narrowest of margins - a 1-0 victory. That win gave Slivka his first state title and also clinched the championship for Cathedral.
The Irish outscored the field with a total of 108 points. Brownsburg finished with 100.5 followed by Columbus East with 98.5.
“We knew the score and we knew Brownsburg had two big guns left,” Cathedral coach Sean McGinley said. “Slivka told me not to worry about it, he was going to take care of it. He said he’s going to get it done. He’s one of the most mentally tough kids I know, and at the end he pulled it out.”
The Irish sent 10 wrestlers to the state meet. On Friday night, seven of those 10 won their match to guarantee a top eight finish.
“I said at the beginning that our goal was to win a state championship,” McGinley said. “The only way we were going to win was by committee. We did. We brought 10 to the finals and then had a great Friday night. We had seven place winners. We battled and we won the close ones. We pulled a lot out in the last seconds and ended up on top.”
In the tournament Cathedral won seven matches by two points or less.
Perhaps the most pivotal match of the tournament came at 138 pounds when Cathedral’s Zach Melloh took on Brownsburg’s Blake Mulkey.
The match went to the ultimate tie breaker, after a controversial stalling call on Mulkey. Melloh eventually won the match 3-2.
“That was two teams going at it right there,” McGinley said. “The thing about Zach Melloh, he’s always going to give us six minutes no matter what. He pushes the pace. Sometimes you are going to get a call, and sometimes you don’t. We got the call in this one and took advantage of it and scored when we needed to.”
Cathedral had four wrestlers reach the final. Alex Mosconi (132 pounds), Mellow (138) and Elliott Rodgers (152) all earned runner-up finishes. Slivka was the Irish’s lone champ.
Cathedral also got a third-place finish out of 106-pounder Logan Bailey and a fourth by Lukasz Walendzak (120). Jacob Obst (285) finished seventh. Caleb Oliver (113), Andrew Wilson (126) and Anthony Mosconi (160) lost in their respective Friday night matches.
“All year we knew we had a group of kids that are really tough to beat,” McGinley said. “We knew we would have our hands full in the finals. The guys we were taking on were all very quality guys and great wrestlers. We were able to pull one out, but for us, it was all about committee. Everyone scored points for us when we needed them.”
Another key to Cathedral’s success, according to Slivka, was the team’s swagger.
“My motto is ‘Learn to love it’,” Slivka said. “You have to have fun in this sport or you’ll start to hate it. That was really the main key. We went out there and had fun all day. We were confident and we had swagger. I’m not sure coach cared for it too much, but it kept us relaxed and ready to get the job done.”
The title was Cathedral’s second in wrestling. The Irish also won the team title in 2014. Next season seven of the 10 state qualifiers will return. Only Melloh, Anthony Mosconi and Obst are seniors.

Wow. I haven't been on the boards..I can't believe how many people think this was called correctly. Two seconds is a long time, friends. It's questionable whether he had part of both scapulae or both shoulders on the mat at the same time. It's no where NEAR questionable whether either of those criteria happened for two seconds. That was way, way too fast. Not even in the same timezone as a pin. I'm shocked people are defending it.
"Go flat and you put yourself at the ref's mercy." What? Am I at his mercy if I let myself get taken down out of bounds or after the buzzer? Touch falls are not the rule. I shouldn't be at the mercy of random misapplication of rules. Seriously, I'm blown away by how many people could care less if a pin is 2 seconds. Yikes.

That is one of the worst calls, considering the circumstances, I have ever seen. Fattore was not flat for two seconds as the rule mandates. The fact that other officials are on here defending that call is comical. I understand  bad calls happen and accept that nobody is perfect but when other officials try to stand by an egregious call like this, it makes you wonder about the honesty or competence of officials in general.

I'll make the unpopular statement here....   in a tournament where every point counts, is it a good thing when one of the best wrestlers in the country leaves points on the table choosing to run a take down clinic rather than pin a guy?  It's not a not on Brayton himself, but on the strategy used.  I have no idea how close the final tally will be, but it would be tough to convince me that he couldn't have pinned his 3 opponents.  Maybe not, but I think he could do anything he set his mind to today.  Listening to Brayton's interview now.  Sounds like an incredible kid.  So take the "critique" with a grain of salt, but if you need the 1.5 points he left on the table, maybe I have a point.....

The back exposure was no longer than any type of roll through tilt. It was not pretty but not a pin, imo.
This kid has such a bright future outside of wrestling maybe he will look back and laugh about the time the ref said he pinned himself.
Well mannered, humbleness and self composure are rare traits these days.

How about this idea.  Maybe coaches could give some justice, and vote Fattore for mental attitude award.  Not sure  what defines mental attitude, but this kid has worked his butt off, and came up with the boggest screw, but he still showed great sportsmanship.  He really deserves it over anybody.

Fattore might have been in defensive pin position, but by the time ref got into position to look, Fattore's shoulders were obviously up.  He didnt even have a one count.  Please note the rule book says 2 seconds got a pin.   And when he was calling a phantom defensive pin on Fattore,  Fattore adjusted his position, and Rader was in pin position. If youre going to call a controversial defensive pin in state semi finals, you better be sure and see it for two seconds, and not take the opposing coaches word for it and assume he was pinned.   Some refs with big egos want the match to be about them, and not the kids.  Aggregious call.  I hope this ref looks at this video.

Just a question and probably an ignorant one, but why isn't the lacrosse and hockey method used for freestyle and greco? For high school, it's "club" teams that basically use or do use the high school. They have their own regulation body like the IHSAA and similar to the IHSWCA. I think giving them to the IHSWCA in that matter would be good. You can start with the big schools like Warren Central, Ben Davis, and etc. They can compete for a State Championship as a team/club and individually. Put one in fall and one in spring. Then use the High School season for qualifiers for the current club teams and individual tournament. Have the High School club/team and non school affiliate club at the same time. Non affiliate on weekends and high school team/club during the week.

If ISWA would have just made a 1 tournament exemption for any of these 3 (USA Nationals, USA National Middle School Duals, and Heartland Elementary duals) there would not have been this outcry.  They also should have taken in account for those wrestlers injured.

The reason everyone is so pissed off is because the kids this rule is hurting are the kids that are wrestling every weekend, the kids that are training 3 days a week and doing private lessons in Greco, the kids that are trying to better themselves wrestling the best competition in the country, the kids that are going to the RTC's.  The people who chose to have a vacation or take a week off are not on here pissed off, all the people that are posting are parents with children who work their butt off and just want their kids to be able to go to their state tournament and showcase how hard they have been working.  So the reason I made this topic was in hope that ISWA would make a change once they saw how many people they were upsetting in this organization, but instead they turned blame on their members and didn't listen at all to our concerns.  And yes I called and emailed Louis Rosbottom, who did not want to hear any of these concerns.  The hundreds of dollars we spent at all 3 of the above events as a ISWA team member meant nothing to them, so yes I am bitter and completely unhappy with ISWA.  What does this teach your kid?  Why did he work hard to make these teams just to be punished by not being allowed in the state meet? The kids at RWA will continue to train freestyle and Greco and they will be ready to wrestle when the opportunity presents itself... apparently it won't be for ISWA events.

These parents are spending thousands of dollars a year on travel expenses to out of state and Indy tournaments, academy and/or club membership fees, private coaching lessons, etc. for their kid to compete at a high level...why not have the same parents pay $20 entry fee to the local club (that is hosting the freestyle qualifier tournament they are missing) as a donation as a condition of exemption for the ISWA team kids.
This would lessen the host club burden and the team parents burden of schedule conflicts.
Win-Win again for the time v/s money issue.

Since there is a 2 tournament requirement shouldn't ISWA also require that atleast 1 tournament is available every weekend during this time?  We had the first 2 weekends set aside for the qualifiers, but now the 2nd weekend doesn't offer us a tournament.  When we decided to do Columbia City and Penn I then made a commitment to Indiana Outlaws to wrestle with them in the Viper Pit duals, which I will not break a commitment we already made.  Bailey has given my family a lot of wrestling opportunities and we won't leave them high and dry.  Plus my kid is really excited to wrestle on the same team as Hughes, BAM, Cummings, Parris, and Rypel(just a few I heard are wrestling on the team). I would be happy to donate money to Hanover or Penn if that would count.

It is not about believing my kid is too good for local FS tournaments, it is whether or not the 6-10 matches against the nations best is better then the FS matches we will get.

The ISWA board members, coaches, parents, volunteers, family...we all witness the blood, sweat and tears poured into this sport.
Who doesn't  support our youth wrestlers?
Why make any top tier youth wrestler that qualifies for an ISWA team, choose between the tournament they just qualified or a mandatory local F/S G/R tournament?
No special treatment for any one kid.
One criteria: Any kid that makes any ISWA dual team, they have an exemption for that weekend since they are wrestling for the state team.
Any complaints? Well show up and make a team and you will get an exemption.
    Win-Win.

This is a perfect solution.  We aren't asking for a waiver or exemption bc we are doing something other then wrestling.  As I said before we were prepared to skip FloNationals to wrestle at Penn's freestyle tournament, but now there is not a freestyle tournament offered anywhere in Indiana that weekend. Penn moving their tournament to april 30th is going to hurt their attendance bc all the region kids that would have wrestled in it will be going to Hanover's freestyle tournament.

GrecoCoach stated that me bringing this up is getting old, but I don't think I am doing enough.  My son has worked his butt off to make these ISWA dual teams as well as prepare himself for USA Nationals and Ohio TOC.  My kid loves to wrestle and because he wrestles every weekend he will not be able to compete at freestyle state, it just doesn't make sense.  He doesn't play baseball or football he wrestles and these next few weeks are some of the best wrestling weekends in the nation and I will not sacrifice him getting these amazing opportunities just to qualify for state.  I feel bad for him because now he won't be able to represent Indiana in the schoolboy duals, but I don't see any other way to get the qualifiers in. So please ISWA board members look into helping the kids that are wrestling every weekend get an exemption into your state tournament.

I think it is about the limited weekends in April to qualify for Indiana FS/GR when you are in Iowa battling the toughest competition available for Team Indiana, earned by ISWA Heartland Duals wrestle off winners and Middle School State Champions.
