Anybody know of any individual tournaments coming up in the Indiana, Ohio, Illinois area?
track is dry right now and not showing any competition coming up in the area besides Midwest nationals in Illinois.
I have also checked nuway, flowrestling, and supreme but no luck…
surely there is some tournaments going down somewhere in these states.

I believe you just have to wrestle in 2 qualifiers.  They only have to do Freestyle, there is no Greco qualifier mandate from what I was told.

I don't think they have ever had to qualify per se, just participate in two tournaments ahead of time.  That was for both freestyle and Greco.

Per the ISWA email they sent earlier this week, it appears the 2 qualifiers are back this year. That's how I read it anyways.

They did in the past, but they did away with it during Covid. I'm not sure if they reinstated it this year or not.

Very welcome. It's $30 after I checked. Best of luck to your wrestler! It's a great tournament.

You just show up and pay the fee at the door. I can't remember if it's $30 or $40. They didn't put it on their flyer. Everyone who qualified is already "registered" but not actually in the tournament until they show up, pay, and weigh in. Hope that helps.

For kids that have qualified for Frosh/Soph State, do they have to register and is there a fee?  I didn't see anywhere to register on track? Thanks

I Got a splendid Idea …. Maybe put the avg. team score of all duals next to ranked team at Team State . We get a better insight what every team is scoring .

Wow, I see some real city and suburban issues being 100% completely ignored.  Also, Andy, you are missing the "fun" boat in terms of trying to keep kids coming out.  I agree with your long-term takes, but they are NOT ENOUGH to keep kids from straying into drug abuse and getting sunk into video game culture.

Lots of comments/questions and more here.

As far as retention, that is hard to pinpoint exactly why kids aren't coming back without being in the program or even talking to the kids. The biggest thing I see a lot of times is just the attitude of coaches and how they run their practices. Keeping kids interested and engaged isn't an easy task by any means. As coaches we have all had those kids who seem to need constant attention and others who don't. Retaining kids is different for each kid. Maybe one kid that means working with another sport better, another maybe it's just making them feel like they are truly important.

Like you said, coaching turnover did not help and never will help. As far as getting parents to come in and take the place of others. Things like getting an email/newsletter together to inform the new parents of what is going on and how they can help. As with the kids, engage with them. Tell them you'll need concessions, after meet snacks, etc and they will step up after they see the others provide.

The youth program is something that is another monster. We were talking about this at the Fort Wayne area coaches meeting this summer. One suggestion was to try to get a coach in there that will be around for a while. Try not to have parents running it, but helping as needed. If you use a parent make sure they have some younger kids so you'll know they will be around for as long as possible. As with the high school, coaching turnover will hurt the growth and stability within the program.

Bertsch is a stud and I think he can make a run in February. Definitely underrated in our semi state, especially being a 3x qualifier one time placer, and gave schoef all he wanted last year.

Here's what I would suggest - first separate them into "Past Duals" and "Upcoming Duals"
I think it would be good to group them so each page is a one-week chunk, showing the Dates covered along the top (ex: Sunday, Nov 14 - Saturday, Nov20)
Default the view to "Past Duals" and current week
For each week's page, show a sub-header for each Day with matches - with most recent (latest date) at the top
Under each day section, list matches with Details first, then matches with Scores, and finally matches that are just 0-0

For me, this would allow me to quickly glance through one week at a time.  Here's an example of what I am thinking:

< Previous Week     Sunday, Nov 14      Saturday, Nov 20   Next Week>

    Saturday November 20

Details  Perry Meridian  40          Details  Brownsburg 40
Crown Point      40                       Mater Dei     40

    FW Carroll   0
    Delta            0

    Friday November 19

    Thursday November 18

Lots of wrestling action yesterday in the opening weekend of IHSAA wrestling - and no results entered?!

Come on coaches - surely you can ask one of your assistants, managers or even wrestlers to enter at least the team scores after your matches?  Joe has developed and provided an excellent free resource to support and grow the wrestling fan base.. and yet those of us that are remote have no way of tracking the scores week to week.

As a wrestling community, if we want to get more support and reporting coverage - then we have to help ourselves out.  It should take about 5 minutes (maybe 15 if you are a slow typer and you are willing to enter all the individual results) to go through your scorebook and hit the Submit button.  Maybe someone can get some support from Robert Faulkens to encourage coaches to enter results for the betterment of the sport?

Regarding the RTC..I know last year was different with Covid.   Normally Garrett and Carroll run Open rooms on opposite days.  We've had most NE Indiana schools represented in each room.  I'd say this has been a good thing for the area the last couple years.  I plan to keep doing that at Garrett one way or another this year.

Leo's elementary team has been getting better the past few years.  I know Covid has killed the number of schools and teams at tourney's but their kids won elementary state this year and place high in most area tourneys.  Several years ago that club room for the elementary kids was bare.  It's a brawl now.  I have some family that's been in that wrestling room for their club.  Woods and Cameron Harris have pumped more life in that program than pretty much anyone in the northeast corner of the state has to their kids room.  That's what schools need to look at.  Building from their youth.

In terms of RTC in our area, Bellmont has a great acadamy that Tim Myers puts on spring through fall.  For little kids and middle school and high school.  AC has done some camps in years past as well.

Gavin Davis a champ from Leo! Looks like we sprinkle the heavier weights with some NE Indiana placers more than the lighter weights.
