McCartney Parkinson just got the worst draw in the history of this tournament on paper. Wow.

Graham Rooks has a great come from behind (6-0) win today against another ranked (albeit lower than Rooks) wrestler. A fifth year Sr from SIUE who put Rooks on his back in the first simply couldn’t keep with Rooks’ pace after that. I think it ended up being 9-7 Graham in OT.
Cayden also picked up a nice win (a major).

I agree but I promise you that Walker does not think he got a good draw lol. It's one of the worst possible for him also if not the worst. Just a bad situation all around. But what I do not want to happen is something I have saw a few times in the past and that is for him to make a decision not to wrestle when it is too late to get his alternate in. It could be a dream come true for someone if they got to wrestle this weekend. That being said i wish the best of luck to him and his injury. Never wanna see that happen.

Watts loses to Jordan Decatur in the finals. They dueled penn state last night and came and won this today.
Carson beats a solid Russian in the finals 14-3 to win his 4th open of the season. Had a runner up finish this year also. Putting together a very solid redshirt campaign. #ProudDad

What’s low is a kid being “injured” enough to get a default win to get the state, then show zero signs of injury on his way to a title.

That whole quarter bracket is rough. 1,2,3, and 6 in the same quarterfinal bracket.

backtothemat got a reaction from Thor in Beeks vs Hardcastle ticket round match
This is a tough one. If he was temporarily injured enough to possibly get beat in that ticket round match then he should not have continued. Any other scenario other than that except defaulting to fourth would seem to have some sportsmanship/morality faults to it, in my opinion. Tough one.

backtothemat reacted to SteveECWrestling in My first Indiana Post-Season Experience
I currently live in Indiana but lived most of my life in Ohio. I wrestled in Ohio and attended the state wrestling tournament there for 20 consecutive years. This year, I attended the IHSAA post season Semi State at New Castle for the first time ever. Was my first post season event ever attended for Indiana High School Wrestling. My first experience was almost entirely positive. I can tell you the perception in Ohio is that Indiana Wrestling is not as competitive. I personally had this belief as well. I do not anymore. I don’t know if New Castle is that much more competitive from the other Semi-State’s but the quality of wrestling there was excellent. I would go as far as saying there were kids who did not make it out that I could see being state qualifiers in Ohio. My only grip, which most of you could probably guess, was the qualification process. SMH. Why? I just can’t wrap my head around the thought process that went into decided that you need to make the semi finals and your in. This does not ensure the best four getting out. Having double elimination also does not ensure the “best” 4 getting out but it does allow tough quarter final draws to have a second chance. The state’s response could be to not lose and your okay. I get it, but for a lot of kids their goals are not to be a state champ. Maybe it’s to make it state or place in state. I am curious how many other states do it like this? My favorite round in all of Ohio’s post season wrestling is District (their semi-state) Conso-Semi’s. I wish Indiana would revisit this, but I also know that others have probably voiced their opinions over the years and here we are still the same. Also, New Castle is an awesome venue!

Justice,
You have gained many new fans tonight (unintentionally I’m sure), including me. You have had the advice I give to all high school athletes to “not peak in high school” built in to your very nature or is it the nurturing from your terrific family. Either way you will have great success in whatever you decide to do. Congrats in advance!

backtothemat reacted to maligned in Semi State Upsets
I'm very sorry. I meant it completely ironically and sarcastically because I feel very frustrated about our rigid seeding system. But irony is an irresponsible emotion to communicate in print because it's often unclear like this time. I would never in a million years think that either one of those guys would seriously not give their all to win a match. Obviously, a semi-state title in and of itself is an amazing accomplishment--let alone the additional consideration for next weekend. I'm sorry I didn't consider my words and my approach more carefully in the way I wrote it. Thanks for pointing it out since others would have felt the same in reading it.

backtothemat reacted to hook and half in One Trip State Champion
In the 2000 team semi-state, Mater Dei faced the Plainfield Quakers for the title. Mike Goebel's gamesmanship was on full display when he inserted reserve freshman Sam Wildeman into the lineup against Plainfield's undefeated Derek Donelson. Assistant coach Randy Helfrich had a plan for Wildeman....
Donelson had his hands full.
Wildeman scored a reversal in the third period to make it 5-3. in a wild "pick 'em" scramble at the end of the match, Donelson came out on top and won by six.
Plainfield's coach, Paul Nicodemus, was impressed, telling Wildeman "he was going to have a great career."

And beyond the Big 10 tournament. What I saw tonight bodes well for Lee going forward. He is both more judicious in when he takes his shots and still able to wear guys down. Thats a pretty hard combo to beat.
Pletcher was bellied out a few times and it took everything he had left to get off bottom in the third. I dont think that gets solved between now and the end of the season.

The Cash’s are a top notch family. Justice is a kid that surpasses a trip to BKL. He had my son Alex’s back more times then I could count, such a great young man.
