  1. Some valid points, but the deal is done. Let's see who his assistants are. As to his wrestling resume, it's not like Smith from Missouri was considered that strong at Michigan State: A competitor himself, Smith was a three-time All-Big Ten wrestler and a four-time letterman at Michigan State from 1986-1990. As a senior, he was selected as the Spartan's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Competing at 126-pounds, Smith finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships in 1988, third in 1989 and second in 1990. Smith stands among the top-25 on Michigan State's all-time wins list with 84 career victories as a Spartan. He also stands tied for 19th on MSU's single-season wins list with 32 victories in 1990.
  2. Add Schwab brothers at UNI to list of unlikely available, unless you want to pay the $100,000 buyout. http://www.cbs2iowa.com/sports/features/cbssports/stories/wrst-uni-signs-schwab-7-year-extension-3453.shtml
  3. Quite certain their was mutual interests. Two things in this decision: #1 Purdue seemed late out of the gate for the coaching search, and #2 Pritzloff is originally from the nearby Lyndhurst, New Jersey. If you are going to make a move as an AD, these lists should have been built months ago.
  4. Exactly - word I hear is that the response has been strong. Underappreciated, Coach Hinkle did a lot of things that are going to benefit the next coach; things like leading the fundraising campaign for the wrestling room that now exists, establishing the Boiler Elite wrestling club, securing an RTC, building alumni involvement, rebuilding relationships with many of the Indiana coaches, and some of the student & Purdue leadership involvement in the wrestling program.
  5. He's got the recruiting part down! (paadingggg, he'll be here all week folks, don't forget to tip your servers!) But seriously, the next level from Perry coaching job is not a Big Ten job. The only head coach who would possibly qualify is Jeff Jordan in Ohio.
  6. I have no horse in this race, but I don't get all the fear of wrestling Davis, or Micic. First, Congrats to this young man for his academy appointment, that truly is an accomplishment. But when talking just pure wrestling statistics, he was a 15,10, and 7 loss wrestler that Micic had tech'd previous, and could only beat 9-7 and 2-1. I don't think Lee is fearing these guys.
  7. Purdue has two wrestlers with multiple wins over IU's Roach at 149 this year
  8. This kid is 125 for four years. Doubt he is cutting to make 126 now. 125 lb D1 guys are big, and 133 guys are huge compared to 125, some of these guys Coming down from 145-150+.
  9. I'm going to guess a flurry of switches, someone in the legs
  10. Great match. While Sebastian was the clearly the aggressive one, it's tough to Call stalling on Stevenson when he really never backed up and was always in Sebastian's face, knowing he could always stop his shots.
  11. 1983 state finals Scott Ellis (warren) def Paul Mayer (Lowell) 13-12 in finals Throwing head locks all over the mat. The older Ellis was known to be a bit of a mini-brawler and these two just went at it. 2011 - Kyle Ayersman (lake central) def Brenden Campbell (new castle) 10-8 with 3 takedowns in 30 seconds. http://www.ihigh.com/hoosiersports365/video_893317.html I remember all the smack on Indianamat from the New Castle Semi-state fans on how it was going to be a cakewalk for Campbell (with Da Region Rat pulling for Ayersman). Campbell was definitely the sentimental crowd favorite going into the match and early in it. But, what was amazing to me was how quickly it seemed the crowd turned on Campbell in the 3rd period when the jumbotron shot showed him just hanging on to Ayersman's arm trying to salt away a win. The crowd amped it up after that, and was treated to a spectacular finish by to great wrestlers. The background crowed reaction in the video is pretty cool. http://www.ihigh.com/hoosiersports365/video_893317.html
  12. Do you think Bobby Cox I'd going to let that happen? He will make Lee and Wilson wrestle in one half of the bracket. I predict one of these two will Throw a beatdown and win the 126 Title.
  13. Wow was that one incredibly poor officiated match. No offense, but that 3 call was very bad. This match is also a great example of the differences between freestyle an college and where one guy could win in freestyle but be dominated in folk style because defense is not as tough in freestyle. In folkstyle, Dean wins that match 8-2.
  14. That's the kind of wrestling room the best want. This is a great problem to have, two Hard working studs.
  15. Yes, but if someone doesn't win their own state folk style title, but wins a national freestyle event the same year, that could be more about strength in style. The good thing is these guys now have the quality & depth to push each other and the room, and they didn't bail on the state programs. Rooting for both fine young men. For a 3x champion, Ayersman is really underrated; is there another recent Indiana champ that beat more quality wrestlers that went on to also win state titles? Off top of my head, he beat Petrov, Brooks, McKinley, Harvey, LeCount, Farrell, Crume, in addition to several very good finalists.
  16. Heard from two people who saw Micac work out with a few of the Region college guys over the spring/summer, not sure if it was RWA or other, but they indicated Micac took a beatdown getting taken down often.
  17. Angel was on another level. Would take him down 4-5 times and ride him like a dog if need be.
  18. Wow, that is a terrible situation. According to the video news story, the guy person who first reported that Johnson infected him was a male victim and they are reporting Johnson may have been infecting both male and female partners.
  19. He'd have the ideal situation at Purdue, Eppert and Cashe graduating, Ayersman moving to 133, what a great opportunity.
  20. Yes, here is a pre-match interview with Boston Encouraging Micic to come out and wrestle for the rubber match:
  21. I am going to add and translate what Time and others are thinking. Yes this is a good kid, likable, and we are rooting for him to do well. I think his comment, and the ones that may have been deleted, are not really singleing out JAred, but are more a general wish to see more of our states wrestlers end up at great programs and successful academic situations and outcomes that last a lifetime. There have been several very good Indiana kids with DI talent that have ended up not qualifying or dropping out, and we want to see more succeed at high levels academically and wrestling wise. I also think there are some Programs that have produced highly on the mat, but the college carryover his not been to what I would say is successful. For example, I think time and money wasted on going to places like Disney duals would be better spent on college prepatory or personal academic focus time that could be professionally monitored for a fraction of the cost of a trip.
