  1. The first school is exceptionally strong academically but they only have the basic science degrees, Bio., Chem., etc and he hopes to carry on to grad and possible PHD in a specific healthcare field. The second school is about the same size, is still a strong academic school, maybe not as highly regarded as the first, but it has significantly more choices for the specific degree paths he hopes to make a career in. This is where the choice gets hard. He could choose to just take Bio. at the first and it would satisfy the pre-req’s needed for the specific grad school path, but not sure if he would enjoy this path as much as diving into the field he has already been work in with an internship and volunteering and knows he loves. Both schools seem to have coaches that are passionate and have been talking to us a lot. They are both offering a lot of money academically so we need to make a decision in the next couple weeks to secure them. I know the academics is the most important part of this decision and we are leaning toward the second but the first is an amazing school in every way, it's just the degree path that has us a little concerned. It's not that we are expecting to make a decision based on this thread but I always enjoy seeing what thoughts and ideas come out of this great community. I’ll miss it for sure.
  2. So you have large scholarship and grant offers from two schools. Both schools will cost about the same after scholarships. One school is a top five ranked wrestling schools in their division but has few choices academically in fact none of the degree paths you hope to study except in a very general way but they are a very strong academic school. The other has a wrestling program that is not very strong but has been getting better and has the exact degree you want to study. Which do you choose.
  3. I think you have to wrestle at ISWA state to be on the team trip to Iowa.
  4. I was hoping Purdue would still have an RTC with their new coaching staff.
  5. Armuth vs. Swank 152 Merrillville
  6. I see a few differences from the sectional brackets to the rankings. Are you going to update the rankings with the individual records as has been done in past years? It's always cool to see how the final rankings and stats match up.
  7. The HC Sports Daily usually has good coverage for the Hamilton County area. Unfortunately some coaches don't know how to take their lumps with a young and inexperienced team and badmouth them in interviews. I think some parents should be asking for an apology. http://hcsportsdaily.com/main.asp?SectionID=6&SubSectionID=46&ArticleID=43529
  8. Surprised to see that the RTC's at Warren and LN are no longer available. Sure there are sites south and far west Indy but not easy to get to with rush hour traffic. What happened?
  9. I don't think the are as close as you may think at 126. Chastain handled Mantel with ease at conference Saturday.
  10. I hope everyone is clear on this subject. Coach told my son's team the allowance will not start until Monday 01/06 so it will not apply for the tournament they are going to this Friday 01/03. ???
  11. What teams are at this event on Friday and is it an individual or dual tournament?

  14. My son had them and they were stiff and slick at first but once they get broken in and you rough up the treads a bit they are great.
  15. He moved to North Carolina. Spoke to him at Central Regionals and he said he placed at NC state this year.
  16. All 4 streams are on the same mat on this site and there is only the schedule shown for Broadcast Sports but I see no link for the 12 mats. Help.
  17. We moved to a new school a couple years back due to a job change. The former school had an open room policy where parents could come in the room at the end of practice to pick their wrestler up and opened the first wrestle-off of the season to parents and other spectators. That program had a lot of support from parents at all age levels and the parents in the stands were very educated about the sport and the team has been very successful as a team and individually at all age levels, and is a mid-sized school. This program had a distinct family feel about it and always had 5 to 6 coaches in the room which allowed the coaches to work with the kids by weight ranges rather than just have everyone do the same things. The new school is very closed off from the parents other than a brief parents meeting at the beginning of the season and they absolutely do not allow anyone in the room. This program has a hard time getting parents to volunteer for anything, even just to run a clock. They have a nearly non-existent youth program and is a much larger school and only has three coaches where every kid is coached to do the same thing from 106 to 285. They have little to no post season success and worst of all, the parents in the stands are very uneducated about the sport and often complain about the coaches and what they only can see on the mat. I'm not saying every program should be just like the first program, but I believe an engaged parent is often more helpful and supportive of the coaches. If anyone says that it does not matter what the parents think then they are missing an opportunity to make their program stronger. I'm not saying Timmy's dad should be given free run of the room but maybe he just needs to be engaged.
