  1. Does Maligned post the Genius ratings anymore, or will?
  2. IHSAA says: No brackets for you!!!!!!!
  3. Just clarifying on this, that if a wrestler is injured during an illegal move or on a unecessary roughness call, then that is not injury time, but is recovery time. The injured wrestler has two minutes to recover from that injury. And after the two minutes, if the injured wrestler cant continue to wrestle, he wins the match by default. Just to add on potentially dangerous, the whole point of the call is for the referee to stop the match before the wrestler gets hurt. In most cases, Indiana has good refs that will call potentially dangerous when necessary and literally protects wrestlers from injuries.
  4. Did the hats look like this, then that would of been cool.
  5. Back in 2018, probably one of the most controversial and questionable pins ever was the defensive pin called against undefeated Zach Fattore from Hobart at the state tournament while he was doing a spladle.
  6. 1.Yea, instead of using these soiled word not be said to the IHSAA, "Wrestlebacks". We'll use the word "Repechage". Its more exotic, mysterious, and interesting. We could rebrand the whole movement 2. "No wrestlebacks" not only make our wrestlers work harder, the process is much more efficient. You only need to wrestle 20 matches per bracket instead of the bloated 29 in a wrestleback bracket. Thats a 35% savings, You sell tickets at full price, but give the customers 35% less matches. That's what you call profitable. They should apply that to the State football and basketball tournaments. Just play 2 1/2 quarters in state tournament basketball games, you get done a lot earlier. That way, the basketball teams would have to do a lot more in the 1st quarter because it would count more. The 1st quarter would be much more exciting. Maybe the should apply that to track also. Like in the 100 Meter dash should be the 65 meter dash. The start of the race would be much more important and really exciting. Instead of going to 25 points in state tournament volleyball games, they should go to 16 points. Lets play 4 1/2 innings in a state baseball games. That 1st inning would really be exciting, just like our ticket round. We could do it to swimming also, Nobody wants to sit and a watch a full 500 meters. Lets reduce it by 35%, people would be much more interested in the 325 meters. Do you want to watch all 18 holes at the state golf tournament? Get this, how about 12 holes. Thats efficient and exciting. Gymnastics has too many apparatus also, lets cut out the uneven bars and give them one vault instead of two. Tennis is too long, lets make it a 4 game set instead of 6. That 1st game really would count.
  7. I think we agree that it's something we can't put on the referee as a judgement call, as that would be a slippery slope. I wouldn't have a problem with a rule change that's similar to the college rule where after the 1st injury time out, the non-injured wrestler gets choice of position. Note, currently under NFHSA its, choice of position after the 2nd injury time out. It works at the college level, so it wouldn't be that significant of a change. I wish we could mine track wrestling data and see if we really have an increase in injury time outs. I always like to use real data to see if there is a trend.
  8. Per the rules, there's no penalty for calling injury time out. But!!!! If there is imminent scoring situation such as a takedown (based on referees judgment), and a wrestler that's about to get scored on becomes injured, then the referee can award the points the points for the takedown or whatever scoring situation. In my opinion, this rule would have been applicable in this Stanley match with 20 seconds left. You don't see it much and of course it would have been a ballsy call. This would have been the perfect time to apply that rule, and i think the ref missed it albeit a tough call to make. The takedown at the end was also a really close call, and I could have seen that go either way. I bet the ref, was thinking about the injury call and at that point was going to error on the side of Crown Point. Note, that rule was added about 4 years ago, and done like I said for situations like this.
  9. Maybe the refs can take a medical class on diagnosing wrestling injuries in 10 seconds so they can make have the expertise to make a judgment call if wrestler is injured or not. This is getting absurd!!!!! I think mentioned earlier, the referees can be subject to a lawsuit if they forced an injured kid to wrestle. Safety still is a top priority, and you're not going to penalize or punish a kid when he says he's hurt. The protocol works, and every sport has injuries that slow the pace of the game and affects the game. Injuries are a part of the game.
  10. This is nothing, go back and look at prior years and you'll find 100s of pages of discussion on class wrestling. Not much new being discussed here. If you want to find some older posts, Click on Galagore's old post to find them.
  11. Small schools could easily enter their top wrestlers into the Ironman. That what a lot of Ohio Schools do, they enter their 1or 2 of top state level guys, and leave the rest at home. Why not! I think the Ironman would do that. Most teams in Ironman are just partial.
  12. From a team perspective, we have sculptured a format that supports class wrestling via the team state resulting tournament which is a modest compromise. The IHSAA philosophy is: In individual sports, no matter what size of their school, each contestant has an equal chance of competing against each other. There's some merit to the argument, but also some intangible arguments against it. Thats not the point. But let's be consistent with that philosophy. Why do we not treat all of the individual awards issued by the state in the same manner. For example, in football there's a 5A All-State award, or a 4A All State or 1A ALL State awards etc. Maybe, to be consistent with the way the IHSAA issues awards like track, wrestling, tennis, swimming and golf, there should be just one 1st team QB all-state football instead of 4A all state. Instead of 2nd team 3A 1st baseman, that kid should compete with all of the classes. Each individual football, baseball, softball or basketball player has an equal chance to demonstrate their skills equally and fairly. Just like the wrestler has to demonstrate his skills against all classes, why shouldn't the basketball player be judged against all classes. In no way am i advocating eliminating classes for the team sports, I'm arguing that the individuals should be judged against all contestants and awarded accordingly. That way we would know who the best offensive tackle is, the best center in the state or the best softball pitcher in the state. We don't like indivdiual class awards in Indiana, then why are we still doing it.
  13. I get it Littlevito. I say we complain more then negotiate. But i do agree that getting sanctioned is the #1 priority, But it's worth noting, as wrestling purist, the brackets are flawed.
  14. Just on a side note on Indiana's four stages. It does take a while to complete a state tournament IN. I get it that IHSAA has its traditional format of (sectionals, regionals, semi-state then state which takes four weekends. But Its redundant, takes a lot weigh-ins for the wrestlers and takes a lot effort, manpower and shortens the regular season. It would be nice to compress the format and make more efficient, but never going to see that happen. Ive seen ideas like combining sectionals and regionals.
  15. So the girls don't get wrestlebacks either. At least were being consistent in Indiana, but not smart.
  16. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1986-01-20-8601060030-story.html- I know a lot of states it was unlimited prior to 86. Here's an interesting old article on Illinois transition in 86 season to 275 limit. A survey said 41 of 721 HWY in IL would not have made the weight in the 85 season with wrestlers weighing up to 330. I still remember back in Kansas City a huge HWY from KC Harmon that beat a guy from my school in the finals. I remember people saying he weighed 400 lbs. But I cant verify that, but he looked real big.
  17. No harm, my son is done wrestling, but i remember my son's Sr year and an injury he had. He had to sit a holiday tournament. I might have been a little crazy back then. It gets emotional when you have a lot invested like that and have goals. I just say look at the big picture, and make the smart decision.
  18. I did see the 1988 olympic trials in Topeka, KS. Big names like John Smith, Kenny Monday, Jeff Baumgartner Dave Schultz, Bill Scheer, Melvin Douglas
  19. Clickbait, I thought this a food review by the general of the vast gourmet food of the greater Fort Wayne Area.
  20. i was talking about the Chicago Style stand up front that cost $11.99 a dog. Maybe, im cherry picking, but i do know you better not sully it with Ketchup.
