  1. So you want the referees to change the rules with 10 seconds left in the match. Sorry but rules apply for the whole match. At the end of matches, its pretty common and more likely for a wrestler with a lead to get real conservative, ball up and stall. I have no problem with a referee calling stalling with short time. If you've been warned, you better get youre butt going. Look at it this way, maybe if he didnt call stalling in this situation then the ref would have decided the outcome of match with the subjectivity of a non-call. Watch the college game, they have no problem hitting All-Americans in the last 10 seconds of a match. Probabably a good referee who was not afraid to make the right call.
  2. I agree you should try to get as many tough matches for kids to get them ready for the state tourney. But to put into context, was this a close a dual match? Its not uncommon for teams to move up a up a weight to try to steal a few points which kid make a difference in a very close dual. It just might have been a strategic decision to win a match.
  3. For what its worth, and a more objective view. Brownsburg has a higher genius rating than Avon.

John "Vernons" other famous quote as Dean "Vernon" Wormer: "Well as of the moment, they're on double secret probation."
  5. I think its great that Indiana was able to bring in some notch out of state competition. We need to push our better teams to wrestle this level of competition. Also improves chances of Indiana getting recognized nationally.
  6. Gary did beat Munson earler this year. Looks like 120 is wide open with a lot of good kids there. Should be a barn burner.
  7. Mr Unknown never wins like his cousin Mr Bye.
  8. Thats interesting. That will be a fun match between Lukaszka and Grammar. Im looking forward to that. I also correcting my 120 weight forecast. I ommitted Porter from Logansport and White as unknown wrestler pointed out.. 120 White (Ren)Porter (Log), Grimes (Jeff) , Brown (Harrison) Maybe Quasebarth (NW) and Bushong (WC) could contend.
  9. I see Bushong is at 120. Which lightens up 126 a little bit. Is Ty Fadness wrestling this year for Rossville?
  10. On the Rise. Heres my take. 103-MCcarthy (BC), Randall (WL) Anderson (Jeff) Webb (RC) Couple of good freshman in this class 113 Miller (Jeff), Ball (NW), Zaldivar (Delphi), Johnson (Log), also contending Coates (Harr)- Miller is experienced wrestler and clear favorite with good shot at state. 120 Grimes (Jeff) Brown (Harrison), Quasenbarth (NW), Watson (Del)- Should be tight 126 Wade (Harrison), McGreevey (Jeff) Bushong (WC) Dominguez(logan)- All pretty close, Wade has looked good. 132 Strawsma (BC), Jones (Jeff), Alvarez (Harrison), Mcilvain (WC)- Strawsma looking strong with nice shot at state Jones and Alvarez have split so far 138 Lukaszka (BC), Carden (Cass), Widner (TL), Mcilvain (WC)- Not sure what weight Widner is going but likeley here. Tough weight 145 Shrock (Logan), Grammer (Jeff), Pullins (Harrison), Adams (WL), Easterday (Ross) Another tough weight, Not sure if Easterday has been healthy or at 145 152 Armuth (Harrison), Hart (Delphi), Carden (Cass), Mayhew WC- Armuth is heavy favorite here. 160 Fritz (WC), Pusey (WL), Haywood (Harrison), Adkins (Jeff)- Fritz looking strong here, If Mote of Delphi goes 160 which I heard might happen, bump him to favorite. 170-Mote (Delphi), Mathis (Harrison), Bowling (Cass), Pruitt (Frontier), Also contenders Skomp (Jeff) and Owens (WC). Mote might be at 160. But Deep class 182- Wright (Harrison), Garpow (Winnemac) Gary (West Laf), Munson (BC). Contending Owens (WC ) & Demair (SN) & Mann (Mccutch) Wright should have good chance at getting back to state 195 Collins (Lafayette), Martin (Rossville), Moore (McCutcheon), Trent (WC), Kidwell (WL) Another Deep class, 220 Meyer (Harrison), Elliot (Cass), Ohani (Rensalear), Rogers (Jeff) Meyer favorite here. HWy Kern (Harrison), Hopkins (Mccutcheon), Page (Jeff), Crosser (West Laf) Always a good match between Kern and Hopkins. Havent seen much as much of the Twin Lakes sectional, so Im probably overlooking some decent wrestlers up North.
  11. If you're going to do in pen, you might as well make it look nice.
  12. First, stalling should be called the same no matter what time in the match. It doesnt matter if in the first period or in the ultimate tie breaker. Referees dont call it enough in tie breakers, as its controversial and takes a lot of courage. Doesnt mean its not stalling. Do we call take downs differently in a tie breaker? Does it say anywhere in the rule book or interpretions book that we should call stalling different at any time in the match? I also see a lot of referees use the stalemate as a copout in lieu of calling stalling. I think the sitting or grabbing on the ankle is a good example of that. If top guy sits on an ankle, he should move up or let it go after a short period of time. If he makes no attempt to improve this is stalling, not a stalemate. I say Kudos to the referee who made the call.
  13. I heard he had a torn ACL. But has been wrestling on it. Don't see Atwood getting back to full strength this season
  14. Teams are selected on a somewhat complex formula based on the results of the team in prior year state tournament. Also a couple of wild card teams were voted in. But selection to the tournament was done well before the season started.
  15. Back in the day while, (25+ years ago), I was wrestling at the end of the match where I had a 1 point lead. I took a shot and got a single leg but I didnt finish and went out of bounds with 1 second on the clock. Went back to the restart and oopponent took a desperation shot, I sprawled and the ref hit me for stalling and and already had a warning so tied up the match. He said I took a step back, so that was stalling.
  16. Loolks like Westfield had some disapointing early results. Was it due to the football players werent wrestling yet? Not sure how they're ranked ahead of Brownsburg losing 55-6 to them. Southmount is pretty salty and they got a good dual team.
  17. I think its pretty simple. If you injury default a match, you just lost. You're opponent wins, he is the victor and not the loser. He gets to claim of being the winner of a match. These rules apply also apply to Penn M109R.
  18. Hornet, I agree on the Lafayette J&C. But there was tons of basketball coverage this weekend.
  19. Just curious. How does you're local newspaper cover wrestling? Our local newspaper IMO does not cover it well. I wont mention the name of the establishment. We're lucky to get a box score. All they do is a few articles a year around state tournament time. Its all basketball, basketball, basketball.
  20. Just heard Laporte is pulling out due to Football team is in State Finals. Looks like Harrisons Varsity B team will fill in.
  21. The best thing about wrestling is, that you get to win your spot by winning the challenge match. This happens in most cases. If a coach makes an exception to this rule, he really should give an explanation. Where is the explanation from thiscoach? There has to be a piece of information missing from this story. Ive seen other team sports, and there normally is a contorversy of who starts. Its all subject to the coaches judgment. Baseball and softball are really bad at this. But you got to respect the honor in the wrestling challenge system.
  22. You're right. Griffith isnt there. I guess 126 weight class will be tough.
