boomer got a reaction from Dwilly in Beeks vs Hardcastle ticket round match
I didn't see the match other then the video but it seams everyone is going on the assumption that Beeks would have won the match. Either way Hardcastle was good enough to win the tournament. So if Beeks would have won that means that the 2nd best wrestler would have went home. This is another great example of needing wrestle backs. As far as wrestling after getting hit in the knee, it could defantly affect you in that match but after some ice and ibuprofen you could be good to go after that. Sucks either way for one that a good kid won't make it.

I see this topic every year and every year I think the same thing...how absurd.  To compare an entire conference against one team is ridiculous.  Carroll’s program is a decent program because of the time and effort put into by coaches, parents, and mostly the young athletes.  I would love to see the Chargers
in a conference, but not the SAC.  They gain nothing from it.  The ability to go wrestle other programs around the state benefits our wrestlers more than facing SAC schools, some of who cant field a full team.  Im excited to see what is happening at Blackhawk Middle School and the efforts they are making to improve wrestling in the area.  Carroll is far from the Cathedrals, Crown Points, and Mater Dei’s but they are continuing to improve.  Im pretty knowledgeable of the program and am comfortable saying Carrolls program is better than some mostly due to the off season wrestling these young men do. Every wrestler has those opportunities.  I would like to see more effort into improving the FW semi state
and our area than talk if an all all star SAC team can beat Carroll.   Carroll
has an RTC program all summer, didnt see too many SAC wrestlers up there.

To add to this is just the strain of the academics of collage. Going to class, going to practice and all the papers to write. I tip my hat to the kids that can do all that and have success on the mat and can keep their grades up.

Really. Your talking about percentages and being fair. What s the percentage of 1a wrestlers to winning a title at state compared to 3a.  Team state was the one thing we had a shot of going to and maybe placing or winning but now that is again moving in favor of 3a schools as well. I just don't get it I guess.

2013-14there were 22 kids on the Garrett squad
2019-20 we started with 51 and are 49 or 50 now

16-17,17-18,19-20 we made it.  Felt we were snubbed one...maybe two years.  We knew we were close though.  Funny thing is that we were a “bubble” vote in team this year yet we got 2nd.  We’ve been seeded 5th twice and placed 2nd both of those years.  Unseeded to 7th another year.  We knew we could win it this year or compete before we were voted in. In 18 we knew we had a shot as well and came close in a runner up finish.  This has definitely attracted kids!  Believe it or not...our success has improved our feeder system and we have good wrestlers coming up.  ......I’d bet that the same exists for other programs who are excited for the opportunity to win team state.

the 25% was including EMD and IC in 4A....but yes you are correct it is false, its 22.85% while the other three classes will be around 13%.
Not sure why the classes cannot be more evenly distributed, this isn't football.

We want to grow the sport, making it less inclusive to smaller schools does not help in my opinion.

Ok, let me see if I got this straight. The 3a class is getting split so they will go from getting 12 teams at team state to 16 and the 1a and 2a teams will get reduced to 8 teams each. So the one tournament that small schools look forward to is getting harder for them to get in because of the reduced number but easier for big schools. The big schools already have the state tournament to win which the small schools have next to no chance in winning. Just seams silly to me that once again the small schools are getting the short end of the stick. I am also surprised that the 3a schools are ok with this, wont they just be winning a watered down title. Will there be a final match with the 3a champ and the 4a champ so we will know who the real champ is ? Just frustrated I guess. I know I know, just work harder.

All this talk has put so much emphasis on state champs. One place I think small schools would really see a bump in interest is the number of athletes winning sectional, qualifying to regional, making ticket round, etc. I know we are all supposed to aim high, but "high" is defined differently for some than it is for others. A lot of guys in our line-ups over the years climbed to their athletic peak by winning a sectional championship and/or making it to the ticket round of semi-state.

Ever since open enrollment, smaller schools have had a huge decline. Even top notch programs have felt the hit. Why choose to go to Bellmont in Decatur, IN where there isn't a whole lot of attraction like attending a school in Indianapolis. You can take all of Adams County, Wells County, and Jay County kids and lump them into one program and still wouldn't be able to have the draw and pool of kids like the biggest schools of the state. Our school keeps getting smaller and smaller every year, and the crop of the litter is bare. Our middle school is feeling it even worse. For a sport like basketball, where you only need 5 guys, the middle school doesn't even have an 8th grade basketball team this season. Even if we do get new students, we aren't getting top notch athletes at smaller schools. We are dealing with low income section 8 families who don't care to have there kids be in sports. It has become very ignorant of the fans of our sport to believe that we as a state can continue to grow our sport when we are only benefiting the biggest schools in the state.

I used to be be a staunch 1 class believer but am not sure anymore.  I am 100% positive that the atmosphere at the state finals would not be the same.  I am no longer sure that is as important as I used to think.  If Indiana did decide to add classes, I would hope they would do 2 classes at most.  I think 3 would be pretty watered down.

The Indiana State Finals are incredible and would hate to see that change but I also understand there are benefits for the smaller schools and the sport should be about the kids and not the fans.

I just wanted to say congratulations to my blazers for a great conference win this weekend. We beat Prairie Heights for the first time in 20 years. I was also told this was Prairie Heights first conference duel lose after 71 straight wins. I want to say that Prairie Heights has been the pinnacle of 1a wrestling in the state for years and I have looked at there program as the one to strive to be like. Their  coaches and kids were class act during and after the match. This was a great duel with high intensity and I wish all duels would be this exciting. Its what makes wrestling the best sport there is.

Nolan Hathaway had a great day at the Carroll regional. The heavyweight just weighing in at 208lbs came in as the 4 seed and pinned  the New Haven Sectional champ at 285 from Snider. He then lost to a really good Heavyweight Chase Leeper from Eastside who is every bit of 285, athletic, a Conference Champion, a great young man and athlete. Hathaway finished up the day with a win over the 2 seed from the New Haven Sectional from Leo, Tom Busch a 2 time Semi-state qualifier. Very proud of Nolan's efforts, his love for his coaches, teammates, and family, and his accomplishments this year. Good luck at  the Semi-State competing with the best in the surrounding areas.
