  1. Big Ten thread on college board
  2. Looks like we're going to get Lee vs Red II in the consolation. All Red has to do is beat Vince Turk of Iowa and it is on. Lee lost to Michael Carr (and didn't look very good) 10-6. Red vs Turk up now So much for that idea. Turk gets out to an early lead, then stalls for the final :45 to beat Red 5-4. Lee will face Turk again in the consos tomorrow morning. Lee vs Red II will have to wait another day
  3. Pepple falls in the consos 3-0 to Ben Thornton. Red dec Alec McKenna of NW 2-0 in a match that almost put me to sleep.
  4. Michael Carr of Illinois takes out Tommy thorn 8-6. Will face Nick Lee in the Semifinal. Lee handles Cole Weaver of IU 13-3 for his 2nd major of the day.
  5. Red drops his quarterfinal match to Nate Limmex from Purdue, 6-4. His second loss to Limmex on the year.
  6. Kleimola showed well. Rasheed with an 8-4 win, had to work for all of it. Nice showing for an 0-13 wrestler. Was surprised to see Kleimola hadn't won at all this year! Snyder took care of Fletcher Miller at 285, 24-9
  7. Lee wins first round 12-2, Red wins 6-0. Big Ten thread started on college board with more updates on IN wrestlers
  8. Jake Kleimola drew Penn St.'s Shakur Rasheed in the first round. Rasheed has made quick work of just about everyone since late Dec. Can Jake avoid his cradle?
  9. Mitch Sliga dropped his first round match 6-5 to Brandon Krone of Minnesota. Gave up a TD then cradled for 4 back points to start down 6-0.
  10. Nick Lee with a 12-2 win, amassing 2:56 in riding time. Will face Cole Weaver from IU in the quarterfinal
  11. Tourney is under way... Will provide updates here as I can. Garrett Pepple gave Luke Pletcher a helluva match, losing 5-4. Pepple had 2:56 in riding time, but got hit with a penalty point for an illegal move(?) w/ about :30 left. The penalty point avoided OT and gave Pletcher the win. Not sure exactly what happened. Chad Red with a 6-0 win in the first round. Nick Lee up now on Mat 1
  12. Here goes...... 125 - Thomasello 1 133 - Micic 6 141 - Lee 3 149 - ZPain! 10 157 - Pantaleo 2 165 - Martinez 5 174 - Hall 8 184 - Nickal 7 197 - Rasheed 4 285 - Snyder 9 Penn St 128
  13. Brackets are out. My initial thought is Streck got the present of a bye with Kyle Snyder in the 2nd round. Welcome to the consolations! Lee is the #2 seed and faces Rutgers Mike Van Brill in the opening round. Lee beat Van Brill earlier 5-2. His 2nd round would either be IU's Cole Weaver or Sal Profaci. Lee did not face Weaver, ranked #15 by Intermat, Nick beat Profaci 9-5 in his Big Ten debut. Waiting in the semis will likely be either Michael Carr (Illinois) or Tommy Thorn. Chad Red ended the season on a 4 match winning streak and got the 4 seed as expected. He faces Maryland's Ryan Diehl in the opener. Red pinned him in Jan. Next up will be Purdue's Nate Limmex who won their season matchup. This is a good spot for a little revenge and a shot at Joey McKenna in the semis. Red did not face McKenna.
  14. I know Nick handled him fairly easily the first time, but Tommy Thorn worries me a little in a rematch. Assuming Thorn beats Carr, from IL. Not worried about Weaver beating Nick, and think he would handle Carr. Would love to see Nick get an opportunity to wrestle McKenna again.... in the final
  15. Cool! I'll add the video of Mason's only HS loss here. It starts around the 1:49:00 mark. A great match in the State Semi-Finals against undefeated Chase Osborn of Penn. The video also shows Drew Hildebrandt's win over Paul Konrath, Chad Red and Nick Lee's semi final wins and Joe Lee's dramatic defeat of Perry Meridian's Brandon James. Lots of good stuff!
  16. I was killing time watching matches on You Tube today and found Mason Parris frosh semi-final match against Chase Osborn in 2015. I had forgotten how close, and slightly controversial that match was. A quick recap: Osborn controlled the match early with 3 take downs, getting in on a single leg fairly easily and finishing strongly. Mason battled to stay in it with a mix of reversals and escapes. About mid-way through the 2nd period Mason started to change the momentum. Osborn got his 4th TD :30 into the 2nd period to lead 8-3. Mason reverses to make it 8-5 at the one minute mark of the period. The match was marred with several delays for blood time all the way down to :02 remaining. It certainly disrupted the flow of the match. Mason let's him up to make it 9-5 and can't take him down buy fights off shots that were scoring early, ending the 2nd at 9-5. Parris starts the 3rd period down and finally gets the escape @ 1:22, making it 9-6. A quick low show from Mason nets a TD followed by a quick release making it 10-8 @ :59. A standing go behind and a brief scramble and Parris ties it at 10 w/ :41 remaining. More blood time at :32. After blood time, MP let's Osborn up so they start neutral. It's 11-10 w/ :32 to go. Mason gets in a shot but Chase fends him off until Mason makes a quick move that would have resulted in a TD but he runs out of room and they go out of bounds at :19. At this point Mason tried everything but Osborn is on skates. Osborn backs straight off the mat and gets a stalling warning. :08 to go. More blood time. Same exact thing, Mason pushes, Chase backs off the mat. Parris asks for the stall call along with the crowd, doesn't get it. Back to the middle w/ :02 left. More blood time. Caution on MP on the whistle. Reset, add :02 back and Paris shoots, Osborn backpedals off the mat again. No stall call again, to the dismay of a very loud crowd. Final Score 11-10 Chase Osborn. The match was a true tale of two halves. One can 2nd guess whether Mason should have let him up when tied 10-10 at :30 left, but he had taken him down twice in less than a minute. One can wonder if there was no blood time, how would the match have turned out. But that's wrestling and Chase Osborn goes on to finish an undefeated season and a State Championship. Mason wins another close match to finish 3rd and never loses a HS match again, netting 3 State Titles along the way.
  17. The rule is to prevent coaches from loading up extra players by offering scholarships to non-revenue sports. Rumor has it Coach Bryant regularly had football players on golf scholarships.
  18. Can't play football unless he goes on a football scholarship. NCAA doesn't allow a wrestler to play football unless the scholarship is coming from football. And to my knowledge that is not in the cards, at least initially.
  19. Mason can't play football unless Michigan has a football scholarship for him and to my knowledge that is not on the table. It could happen at some point, but Coach Harbaugh generally keeps scholarships full (or full +) so it's doubtful unless it happens later. The NCAA does not allow an athlete on scholarship to play football without using football money. It's the rule that countered what Coach Bryant supposedly used to do by having half a team on golf and tennis scholarships.
  20. That's totally untrue. Brayton finished higher than Joe in ONE tournament. Joe has a better off-season resume. I'll list a few accomplishments below. But the bottom line is we are splitting hairs here. Every time I correct someone or provide accurate information, I feel like I am making a case for Joe. I'm not! I think both are excellent and I truly think they would split a series of matches. But let's at least speak the truth.... 2016 Joe finished 2nd at UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals, making it to to a best of three finals, losing to David Carr. 2016 - Brayton finished 3rd in the same tournament one weight class down Joe is a Fargo Cadet Freestyle National Champ July 2015 Brayton finished 3rd at the same event, one weight down Joe finished 2nd at US Open Junior Freestyle Nationals 2017 - Joe avenged his earlier loss to David Carr in the semis then dropped the final to Griffin Parriot There is another national tournament Joe won but I can't find it. It was a tournament on Flo not TW. So 2 National Titles for Joe. They both have great resumes, but to say Brayton has consistently performed better on the national level is just inaccurate.
  21. This ladies and gentlemen is the definitive answer. There can be no dispute - These results would transfer to now easily! ISWA Folkstyle State Finals (03/07 - 03/07/2010) NOVICE - 75 (1st) Champ. Round 1: Joe Lee (mater dei) over () (Bye) Champ. Round 2: Joe Lee (mater dei) over Zachary Sheets (Contenders Wrestling Academy) (Fall 1:42) Champ. Round 3: Joe Lee (mater dei) over Jimmy Marshall (PAWS Elite) (Dec 4-0) Quarterfinal: Joe Lee (mater dei) over Azariah Ellis (ZWMS) (Fall 0:39) Semifinal: Joe Lee (mater dei) over Brayton Lee (Red Cobra Wrestling Academy) (Dec 7-0) 1st Place Match: Joe Lee (mater dei) over Noah Warren (Perry Meridian) (Fall 1:20)
  22. I'm not saying who would win, but you don't think Joe has gotten experience wrestling against college wrestlers and practicing in the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club? And one tournament this summer where they didn't meet each other doesn't say a lot. Both wrestlers have great off-season accomplishments. The only thing I'll say is that in a best of 51 series, Lee wins 26-25. The weird part was seeing Joe at Evansville Semi-State watching when he could have been wrestling. But I get what they're trying to do.
  23. Just for technical clarification, getting pinned would fall in that category
  24. And a 3rd, under the lights for all the marbles would have been AWESOME!
