You'll want to bring your own chairs.  The tournament is held between the field house and main gym.  The main gym has typical bleacher seating while the fieldhouse (SAC) has portable bleachers that fill quick and are not comfortable.

I did the 120 class just to see how the PIN would likely seed things out and I’d say it was pretty predictable by names with a couple outliers.  For example little Hockaday (which I suppose I should  give him his own identity as Ryan) is a good wrestler and a qualifier champ, state placer in ISWA looks like he would be the 17th best PIN.  I went through his track history to find out why he would be so low. Looks as though he didn’t compete for a couple years and that hurt his PIN rating. Even though it has nothing to do with the wrestler he is now. Really outside of him you could certainly make the argument it was close. I suppose as mentioned returning placers should be automatic seeds. In the case of 120 Strayer predictably has the best PIN and was a MS champ last year. Xavier Flores while not a qualifying Champ has placed many times between ISWA and MS I believe and has the 2nd best PIN followed by Gavin Mason (iswa champ) Lathan Janes multiple time ISWA placer so there is a reasonable argument it got it pretty close…not withstanding the outlier in Hockaday
( I found the PIN for 23 of the 32 qualifiers)

You have to sell the parents just as much as the kids on the sport(really any sport). If the parents don't buy in, it will be hard to get them to practices and meets.

The way our youth tournaments are ran make it a very difficult sell for many parents. Most other sports it is an hour to hour and a half commitment for an event. However, for wrestling we pride ourselves in a 12 hour long tournament(note a little sarcasm, but not much).

In order to evolve we need to have our events be PARENT friendly as much as it is child friendly.

    Check with Rudis. In 2019
my youngest son sent them a letter because they didn't make the Punisher singlet in his size (YS) They sent him a letter back with a Punisher singlet inside the box with a hand written card that apologized for not having his size and for being a loyal customer. You never know what they might do!!??

I know some people looking for some BIG wrestling shoes for their kids.  They are looking for size 17-20.  I’ve seen 18 before and posted a lead a year ago for another coach, so I know they are out there.

While I’m on the shoe topic.  If anyone has any older shoes laying around and looking to make cash, let me know what you have.

If your looking for older or vintage shoes, look up my Instagram  jay_flo78

I don't think they have ever had to qualify per se, just participate in two tournaments ahead of time.  That was for both freestyle and Greco.

I just wanted to add I could not be more thankful and appreciative of my staff.  I have incredible administrative support so we have several coaches in the building and at middle schools.  Several of my assistants have been offered multiple head coaching jobs, but have stayed with us.  So thankful to have them.

My coaches who aren’t teachers are freaking incredible.  They are literally losing several thousands of dollars to not run their business or cut their hours to coach wrestling.  Often they will work in a 12 hour work day to allow them to be at future practice and/or a tournament.

Sports in general isn't like it was 20 years ago.  I think with more athletes specializing in one or even two sports, the amount of work needed has increased.  It's not enough to attend a week long summer camp, show up in November, and only have your teammates in the room as your only practice partners.  There are outliers that can do it, but not many.

I think that if you want to be a state placer, you need to put in the work year round.  Practicing at least 3x week, attending your HS open room, traveling to compete, practice at an academy/club throughout the week.

I don't think the "average" wrestler has that commitment.  They may make their HS varsity team, but I doubt they see any kind of placement.
