I would like to echo the praise for the finals introductions.  I think dressing our sport up like that can only help it grow.

I think this tournament still does a random blind draw, I.E no seeding.   So the Athletic Director was probably up late last with his bingo ball machine pulling out names to get the brackets lined up,  which is explanation for late publishing of the bracket.

As someone who is employed in a corporate environment I don't see cauliflower ear being an issue during the hiring process.  Generally speaking, if a company made its hiring decisions on physical looks or deformities the amount of legal action and sanctions would be immense.

Great start to the camp this evening. The Lefever brothers being the first to start the camp at technicians was great. The Wabash camp has been great and the kids were pretty pumped there today. Thank You, Coach Anderson, Coach Irwin and Little Giant Wrestling Team for being a class act and bringing great people to Crawfordsville for wrestling!

Guys so it seems like everyone cries of injustice on the two qualifier requirement has found a compromise.  I haven't attended a ISWA meeting this year except for the bid meeting so not sure on the discussion they had on this but it looks like they have tried to help the "no love for the north" people to make sure they can still attend State.  So now, by them trying to help out the people who cried foul about the qualifiers, will we see a backlash that now that didn't follow the rules they set forth?

Curious to see how this will unfold I will go pop some popcorn and come back to read the comments.

Keep it classless! Classing is for sissies!

That would take an act of God. We are 'Merica World Folkstyle CHAMPIONS 239 years in a row! We love our apple pie, we love our Dallas Cowboys, we love folkstyle wrestling.

Not sure how this would work in folkstyle as things like locking hands or other penalties could potentially be seen by only one ref.

What it boils down to is this....it's a major conspiracy between the ISWA, USWA, FBI, AARP, and WD40 to confuse the folks in the northern part of the state.

It sounds as if you are making excuses for why there is a lack of participation.

Michigan has had teams in the past so they have found ways to get around their rules. They bring 20+ teams to numerous dual tournaments in their state, along with Disney and NHSCA. They had 36 teams at the Grand River Rumble this past year from states like WISCONSIN, New Jersey, PENNSYLVANIA, Tennessee, along with about 20 from Michigan. Again how can not one of those groups in Michigan bring a team?

Saying you don't want a Pennsylvania team is ludicrous an the reason the event has gone downhill. There is no reason there shouldn't be 15+ states at this event.

I'm at the DIII regional at Wabash and boy you wouldn't know that these kids are qualifying for a classed national tournament. Fans are excited, coaches screaming, wrestlers laying it all on line. Of course many of you shun this type of classed wrestling. It's too bad because there are some tough kids and great wrestling.

I have to play devil's advocate here. What is wrong with stalling and then winning by a point in overtime? It seems to me that it is a viable (though boring) strategy. We may not find it terribly entertaining (actually got bored during some of the first few finals where it seemed no one wanted to take a shot and get caught making a mistake). But it is perfectly legal (to a point). And if it is deemed excessive by the ref, then there is a remedy proscribed by the rules.

What it seems to come down to is whether you personally think the ref should have administered the remedy. No one booed at Dean Smith's funeral or at the next NC basketball game even though he invented the four corners "offense". Given the rules of the game at the time it was perfectly legal. Since it was boring, they changed the rules. But, there is a key difference between top level NCAA revenue sports and high school sports. High School sports are not true big revenue generators with compensated athletes (and the courts are now determining the right level of compensation) like NCAA basketball.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but if an athlete uses his brain along with his brawn to win within the rules, then they should be applauded even if the win does not please our sense of aesthetics.

The excessive use of injury time must stop. There is a difference between being injured & being hurt or tired. As a wrestler you are going to feel pain and be fatigued to the point where you believe you can not go on; and then you will push further. That is part of what makes wrestling the greatest sport in the world. With that said coaches need to govern their wrestlers better than this.

Once in an offseason tournament I was losing 8-4 in the third period and i signaled for injury time to catch my breath. I was 14 at the time and had seen other wrestlers do this. It only lasted a few seconds but it was enough, as after the break I went on to win 12-9. My coach told me there was nothing honorable about what I did, and had me forfeit that match. He told me I was done for the day and I should reflect on why what I did was wrong. That was the only time in my wrestling career that i used injury time and the lesson hit home.

It taught me that in wrestling and in life you are often presented with an easy way out, and that the type of man you are is determined by what you do in those situations. I am just grateful that I had wrestling and those coaches who groomed me into the man I am now rather than the man I could of been without.

So unless you're in a situation like Jay Jaggers in the '08 NCAA finals, don't use Injury Time:
