PatParham reacted to decbell1 in 2020 Al Smith
Maybe I am getting old and grumpy, but the Al Smith is Mishawaka's tournament. I get that people want them to do everything they can to make it happen, but at the same time, the tournament is a massive undertaking. It consumes a week of Dean and Steve and Adam and everyone else's life in the middle of the holidays. It has a plan and a schedule and years and years of rhythm and planning.

The tournament is not just something you pick up and move out of town. Alter it and it loses its identity. Just my thought.

PatParham reacted to GrecoCoach in Alternative to "Wrestlebacks" at SemiState
Having an IHSAA commissioner that understands wrestling would be very helpful.  A lot of the rules/bylaws need to be able to apply to all sports, though.  But it is irritating how old school / outdated / ancient some of the rules in Indiana are compared to the rest of the country.

Until we can get a wrestler on the inside, we need to play by their rules and propose changes that have a chance to pass.  And maybe lead to something better in the future.  I think getting 5th place matches back for qualification could be a stepping stone to full wrestlebacks at Semi State.

What’s so ironic about you asking that.....is that I asked the tourney director the same thing! Lol

He also chuckled, but specified it’s strictly dual format.  Unfortunately of course.  Would’ve loved for Silas to get an opportunity at both Garcia & Stout in the same weekend! That said.....Garcia is a match we’ve wanted for over a year.  It’ll be a great challenge.  Big strong bruiser who likes physicality.  He’s playing football for Michigan as well.  We feel Silas will be a tough match-up for him though.  Silas’ ability to handfight well by high school standards, coupled with his variation of no tie offense, creates tough preparation for competitors.  Really looking forward to the challenge.

But that said......he’ll stay zoned in for the time being, treating every match of State Series equally.  Nobody will be overlooked, or taken lightly.

Silas Allred has been chosen to represent the Team USA All-Stars at the “Rose Bowl of Wrestling”.....The Pittsburgh Classic.  An all senior event for 50+ years, Silas will represent the 195lbs weight class. The event will take place March 14th, at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse on the University of Pittsburgh campus.  The dual meet will not have the 106-113-or heavyweight division.  Rather....it will be 120-220, and have 2 matches at 138 & 195.  Silas (#2 via Flo) will be squaring off against PA State Champ and Michigan commit Gage Garcia #3.
Tremendous honor for Silas to be selected and represent Shenandoah High School, CIA Wrestling, Indiana Wrestling, as well as his future Nebraska Cornhuskers at this prestigious event.

    Other notable participants and match-ups.....

    Serrano USA132 (Nebraska Commit)
    138lbs.....1-4 in the country.
182lbs Poznanski NJ (Rutgers) vs Neijhous (Purdue).
195 Christensen (Iowa commit) vs Stout (Princeton)
    220lbs Braxton Amos USA (Wisconsin)

I’ve been told complete lineups will be available online soon.  These are simply what I remember through phone conversation. Tickets are now available, and the event will be broadcasted on Flo.

Tremendously proud of Darden for his achievement this past weekend. He gets better each time he competes. Darden represents Wabash with class in victory and defeat.
I'm sure Wabash is disappointed they aren't bringing back a team trophy to Crawfordsville this year. But, with all of their national qualifiers returning next season (as well as many others capable of scoring big points at nationals) look for them to earn a trophy next year and potentially contend for a national title.

PatParham got a reaction from throw45 in FLO v. Track
As Dingo said "Flo is the king of content". Between the mini-series, documentaries, highlights, etc. it is undeniable that they are the most consistent in putting out compelling content. They do monetize wrestling well and have earned that right.
However, as a former Flo-Pro subscriber, their product is far from perfect. Many times I was disappointed  by technical difficulties, unnecessary obstacles in browsing their site, and the poor product that is FloArena. I like Willie, CP, and Bader. They are good people and great wrestling media members. With that being said their is an undeniable aura of audacity that Flo as an organization carries about themselves. As a customer that suffered from numerous technical difficulties when it came time to watch an exciting wrestling event this aura of audacity was absolutely maddening.
As a result I'm pulling for Track. I hope Track is able to eventually provide enough competition to Flo to force Flo to improve their product (more so than they already have/do). I think Track is already doing this to some degree with how reliable their streaming service is (at least from my experience). Track has a ways to go in terms of producing content like min-series, documentaries, etc. that can compete with Flo's. At the end of the day strong competition means a win for us, the consumers, regardless of who 'wins'.

PatParham reacted to GrecoCoach in Seeding Meeting Change???
The easiest solution is to set up the brackets so no unseeded wrestlers have to wrestle the top seeds first round. This has been done at Sectionals before. Up to 10 teams and nobody has to wrestle a seeded wrestler at all. 11 or 12 teams would only have to face the 6th and 5th seeds, which really sorts out those last seeded spots.
Convince all the head coaches in your sectional that it is the fairest for the wrestlers. Should be easy since it’s very logical. If IHSAA complains, just apologize. (Asking permission from Faulkins before is a roll of the dice for what his answer will be that day)
The only complaint I’ve ever heard is about team score bonus points that first round. Sectional team titles mean a lot less now than they used to with team state. The years when the first round wasn’t scored, my sectional got permission to set up our brackets this way. I’m disappointed it didn’t become a statewide rule.

I'd love more details on this, 1000 new wrestlers.
Are they from big, small, medium schools?
Are they freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors?
Are they new to the sport or coming back out after sabatical?
    Etc....
1000 new wrestlers is a lot and good as long as it's across the board.
