  1. I can't see Mastison being ranked much higher than 4th or 5th even if he goes 113. I would still keep Brown and Kuhn above him.
  2. Davis could very well win it, but Schoettle will be tough to get past. 120 will be closely contested, but I guess at that point they all are.
  3. Congratulations to Luke Welch on signing at Purdue. Great accomplishment for himself, the Welch family and Castle wrestling. Good luck this year and in the future at Purdue.
  4. No, it is not unheard of and there is also a difference in a freshman winning and a kid who couldn't make the lineup the year before winning. I understand he was behind a very talented group at Reitz with VanHook and Moody last year so it would be very difficult to make the lineup. Where was Reese when Vanhook went down last year or when Schnarr was out? Did he ever fill in at either one of those weights? Did he have any varsity experience last year? If he did have varsity experience how did he do against the better competition? You may be right on this one and if you are, I'll be the first to admit that is one heck of an accomplishment because I think it will be a difficult weight class.
  5. Big difference in going from JV to SIAC champ at 106 and 138. At 106 you are seeing mostly underclassman and first year varsity wrestlers; at 138 you will face some studs and more returning letter winners. Any idea who the other 138's will be?
  6. Going from JV to SIAC champ is a big jump. Probably a couple of other guys ahead of him.
  7. Eleven champs is pretty strong, but I don't think anyone could argue the prediction. I could maybe see 120 going another way, but Kenny will be right there.
  8. Johns and Kuhn will definitely be toward the top, but I wouldn't predict them as winners. I've heard Kuhn will be at 113, but I think Brown has the edge there. I have heard 132 or 138 for Johns, but I wouldn't make him the favorite at either right now. I'm sure he will be in the hunt though. What weight is the Reese kid going to wrestle? I've heard 145, but Kelley has got to be the favorite there.
  9. Do these 4 champions have names? I see Ferguson and maybe Davis, but who else?
  10. I'm not willing to make any predictions or concessions at this point. We are still very, very early in the season with no results yet to ponder over. It's obvious the Central sectional is losing quite a bit of talent with Reitz, Memorial and several other quality teams moving to Castle, but I'll have to see what the Castle sectional is sending our way. I know, prior to realignment, the Castle sectional had some of the hardest working teams in the state and many individuals who were ready to make some noise, but it just never panned out for them. The question now is, are they ready to give it a full six minutes? I guess only time will tell, because the only ranking that really matters is the one at Banker's Life in February.
  11. I believe Brown is a returning champ from 106, but will probably be up a weight class this year. Davis is the returning conference champ at 113, Welch at 120 and I believe Wedding is at 126 (Vanhook was out injured). Wedding may be back at the same weight. Rumors are he will, but nothing definite until we see him wrestle. Can't remember if Parkinson was the champ at 160, but I can't think of anyone who would have beat him. He is returning, not sure of weight. Wright is returning Heavyweight champ. So, it looks like either 5 or 6 returning champs with possibly 2 (Wedding and Wright) at same weight.
  12. Seth Elderkin - Sr. North Posey. Elderkin beat Kemper at Sectional last year
  13. and if Kelley wins wrestle off at 145? I can't imagine Kelley wouldn't win that match. If Kelley loses does he plan to drop to 138?
  14. Wow. You've got a lot of info on MD. Do you consider it reliable? Can't believe Seng won't make lineup. He was extremely close to being a state qualifier last year.
  15. Which 4 won't win? Can you give us potential finals matches? Should be interesting to see.
  16. I've heard rumors about possible weight classes, but for now these are only rumors. Word is Kelly and Kemper will wrestle off for 145. Loser will go up (Kemper) or down (Kelly) I would guess. Heard Wedding is going to try to get to 126 and I think Welch will probably be there also. Ferguson (106), Kuhn (113), Davis (120), Johns (132) is the news out of Reitz. MD has a lot of possiblities, so who knows right now.
  17. When is the tournament? Can't wait to get things going?
  18. If you are doing any real cutting, now would be a good time to start. Dropping 2-3 pounds a week over the next few weeks will certainly be better for you than trying to drop 10-12 in just a couple of weeks or less. Your body needs time to adjust to living at the lower weight.
  19. I've got a hunch Blake Johns won't see 126 this year either, but I'm sure there are a few that will end up in different weights. Thanks for the start and the effort you put into this. At least we have a discussion point now.
  20. and it seems athletically as well, although that was not a consideration I'm sure. Hope the young man stays healthy and enjoys much success. God knows he will have earned it.
