  1. Right now, Central has 2 studs (Kelley and Kemper) and three really solid guys (Dixon, Smith and Willis). For them to move up the ladder in the SIAC they need another stud or two and five or six really solid guys. It seems like that is a little bit of a stretch for them at this point.
  2. Outside of Kelley and Kemper who are Central's studs that are going to carry them? Kelley is gone after this year and Kemper is a junior. After the two of them you have several good wrestlers but none about to take that big step to being a state placer. Dixon at 138 is very tough and probably the closest after those two but he isn't there yet and I believe is a junior as well. Smith at 145 is about like Dixon although I think Dixon is probably better. Smith is also a junior and will be gone in another year. As far as I know the only underclassman that shows a lot of promise is the freshman Willis at 126. He's good, but will he ever be a state placer? The way things look Central is about as high in the SIAC as they are going to be unless they have some great middle schoolers coming in.
  3. I know Batts is good but I can't see him winning 145. That's a pretty solid weight class with Schober, VanHorn, Dunn, Kelly and Batts. I just don't see Batts getting by Schober or VanHorn. Who has he beat/lost to this year of note? What reason would there be to pick him to win it all?
  4. MD doesn't schedule as many matches as some schools. Most years when a MD kid has 30-35 a wrestler from another school may have close to 50. Not exactly sure why this is, but it has been the case for years. Might have something to do with having a really good competition in the room. Having a great practice partner certainly reduces the need to schedule more matches. Also it is correct that MD moves backups or JV kids in and out of the lineup occasionally to get a good match or a little experience. This year MD lost several matches due to the weather. The opening weekend 5 way at Mt. Vernon was cancelled and never rescheduled and the next weekend at the Jasper 6 Way one team failed to make the trip due to the weather. That's five matches missed right there. Still wouldn't get anywhere near some schools out there, but it would be 5 closer.
  5. I think this year Evansville has a good chance to have several state champions. Probably more this year than in recent years. Those most likely are: Konrath and Egli at 106 - I think these 2 are the top 2 contenders in the state at 106 Smith and Ferguson at 113 - Again, I think both have a great shot at a state title. We could have the top 2 here as well Lahue at 120 - Red is a big monster in the way, but Lahue is really really good Lee at 126 - My pick to win Lykins at 138 - Has a shot, but probably wouldn't be considered a favorite by many. If he turns it on like he did last year at state, who knows Kelley at 152 - Again, he's ranked #1 for a reason and beat Macri at the IHPO. Another great shot for Evansville. Thacker at 195 has a legitimate shot to win as well if he gets hot at the right time. Tolley at 220 - Same as Thacker. Robinson is the favorite, but we've seen upsets before and Tolley is capapble. That's 7 possible State Champions for Evansville. Will we get that many? Probably not, but I can't wait to see on Feb. 22.
  6. At 145, Korbin Karges (Princeton) has beat Zach Batts (Cascade), Jacob Smith (Evansville Central) has beat Matthew Ruddick (Seymour) and Karges defeated Smith at the Evansville Central Sectional last Saturday, 5-2. I think Karges is too low at 6 and Smith is too low as well.
  7. 14 finalists is impressive, I don't care what sectional you are in. Like someone stated earlier, it shows you have no "holes" in your lineup. Things will begin to get a little tougher for them and all of the top teams out there now. The best teams are almost always going to send 14 to regionals and have a ton of champs. Some will have more champs than others because of the level of competition. How many make it to semi-state and state will be a better measure of the overall strength and depth of a team.
  8. They are all good but Sam Goebel drives that bus
  9. While I would agree that "everybody needs to hold their horses", I think you are being a little disrespectful to Tyler Ferguson and his competition to this point. Calling his competition "scrubs" might be just a little rough. I know Reitz does't wrestle the toughest schedule in the state, but he has beat Kyle Luigs twice this year like no one else has, including DJ Smith. Kyle has wrestled a very difficult schedule and is a pretty good wrestler himself. I don't think it was Tyler who started this thread. I'm not sure at this point why anyone did, but they did. I'm not a Reitz fan. I am a MD graduate and my oldest son and daughter are students their now. Even at that, I can tell you he is very, very good and has a legitimate shot to win two state titles. How that ranks in Reitz history I don't know and don't really care, but don't bet against him in "the matches that count". And by the way if you are comparing his to all the other two year varsity, one time semi-state qualifiers, I think he would rank #1.
  10. Did Miranda wrestle 145 at the MD Holiday Classic? If it was the same Miranda he didn't finish to well. 138 must be a much better weight for him. If I remember him correctly he was a pretty well put together kid.
  11. I like it. Half vision!! Only 25% as good as double vision.
  12. Noah Schweizer 126 Mater Dei. Noah was a ISWA Folkstyle state champ 2 years ago and runner up last year. He majored Mantel if I remember correctly
  13. I just wanted to be like the Panther.
  14. Couple of interesting matches here. At 120 Brown vs. Arney will be good yet again. Arney is looking better and better and really closing the gap. Don't be surprised if you see him win it this weekend. At 132 Davis and Ramsey will be tight yet again. Their match at SIAC was a great battle and I expect it will be again. Not sure who MV has at 132, but I don't see either Davis or Ramsey losing to anyone else at 132 in this sectional. 138 is another great weight class. I don't know a lot about Allen other than he has a great record, but he always does going into sectional and regional. In the past the competition has proven too much for him. Will that be the case again. Petrig and Schnell are both very good and I'm sure Schnell isn't happy with his 4th place finish at SIAC. Petrig, on the other hand, has to be feeling very confident. Has Allen wrestled Schnell or Petrig this year? IMO best weight class here. At 145, how is Williams' (Memorial) health? He had to injury default to Farmer last weekend and didn't wrestle again. I know Williams beat Farmer at the teams dual earlier this year and I think Williams was winning at SIAC before the injury default. If Williams is healthy I say he wins it, if not give it to Farmer. 160 goes to Memorial. Stotlar is pretty tough and I think he wins it without much trouble. Wrestleman Out.
  15. Who are your 4 or 5? I'm seeing three maybe four and I wouldn't say any are certain. But to answer your question, I don't see any other team with a shot at 4 in the finals
  16. 145 final should be a good one. Can the freshman pull out another big win?
  17. And are we all right to assume that they are attending Central High School?
  18. Are you really questioning whether or not Central is wrestling kids who don't attend Central? I can't believe anyone would question the integrity of their coaching staff like that. You should be embarrassed by that comment. Smh
  19. Are we going to get an updated ranking before sectionals begin? Also, will you be updating the rankings throughout the tournament to reflect who has been eliminated? This used to be done during the tournament on the state rankings page and was nice to see who was left standing and who was out. Thanks.
  20. Dude, I don't know what match you were watching, but that 3-0 match between Jourdan and Davis was not close. Davis will have to give Jourdan more than he did in their dual meet to make that a match. I'm not saying Davis doesn't have it in him, but he didn't that night.
