    1. That is a common exclamation, not meant to take the Lord's name in vain. Also, are you assuming the commentator wasn't Christian? Could be Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist etc.

    2. Is a commentators job not to comment on action? If there is a questionable call shouldn't they be able to say so? What kind of authoritarian structure do you want in place that can't question authority?

I'm afraid I have to disagree on the first point. While I agree it is common, I don't think that makes it right. There are plenty of other things that could have been said in that instance. A simple "Wow, I've never seen that kind of raw strength!" would probably get the point across just as well. I completely agree on point 2 though. As a commentator you don't have to agree with the officials. You should be able to give your opinion as long as you can back it up with a rules interpretation that makes sense. Viewers should receive honest, unbiased, educated opinions from commentators.

They do crap like this every year in every sport. South Adams went to state in football two years ago and they had our head coaches name completely wrong. It truly is amazing the apathy shown at these events. How hard is it to proofread or double check?

They did the same thing to Mater Dei this year in the 2A state football finals. Who knew Mike Goebel coached football at Mater Dei?  But, getting the kids' names wrong is worse. These kids work so hard to get to the state finals and make that podium. Its sad and disrespectful not to have their names right. I know mistakes happen but damn.

  3. The number wasn't just beaten, it was destroyed. Crown Point has a special special team. What they did was amazing. Records get broken. Mater Dei held it for almost 20 years. The depth and quality of Indiana wrestling seems to just keep getting better and from a fan's standpoint that's awesome. To see Jesse Mendez, Zeke Seltzer, Brody Baumann, Gabe Sollars and others go out and perform on the big stage was great. I can't wait to see what they do in college. The 2022 Crown Point team is the best ever, for now. That's nothing for Mater Dei to be upset about. Indiana wrestling is growing and getting better every year. We should all be happy about that.

Please go ahead and tell me how much more we would have done at Team State and yesterday without Critchfield and May.

    details please

Who said we would have done more without them? I just don't get your "mediocre" rating of a team that, without Critchfield and May, placed 4 wrestlers and took home 2 state titles. Is reading that hard?

Dark times ahead.  Minus The transfers of Critchfield and May the 2021-2022 Wildcats would have been mediocre.

Just keep our fingers crossed some stud wrestlers up north moves to Evansville and decides to transfer to MD

Mediocre? Is that what you call 2 state titles, a fifth place finisher and 7th place finisher? That's what we have without May and Critchfield. I'd be interested to see how you rate your own life. My guess is by these standards its far from mediocre.

This is fun! reminds me of the good ole days when the board was not populated by sophisticates.

We need more insane ramblings from the likes of Caliboy, BlueBolt and Wrestleman.

Wonder where ole Caliboy is now or what new alias he's using. Sometimes I miss his ramblings

i thought it was interesting that Sollars went for swipes.  Two of three times, Purdy turned them into reversal points.  Sollars tried to turn him at the end of the match.

Would not be surprised to see some haymakers thrown.

Sollars is always going to try to turn or pin his opponent, that's just who he is.

Disagree with a record being broken.  The top five at team state will pick each other apart.

I guess the first thing to discern is what number we are talking about. Are we talking 2003 Mater Dei and what their score would have been or are we talking 2021 Mater Dei and 112 points? No way anybody reaches the 2003 team. I'm not sure what that number would have been, but it's out of reach. The 112, while unlikely, is possible. I think CP has the best shot at reaching it. If they have champs at 126, 138 and 152 (all weight classes where they are ranked #1) and they can come up with top 3 or top 4 finishes at 106, 132, 160 and 182 they would have to be close if not over that number. BB and MD have it a little tougher. While both have 2 wrestlers ranked first, they will need some very strong performances by other guys to reach that level. Time will tell.

If both Baumann and Sollars repeat, then yes, they should have around 50 points depending on bonus.  I think Critchfield can reach the finals if he's in the opposite bracket from Christian Carroll.  That should be another 20 or so depending on bonus.  Seng is the only other potential finalist, but the draw for him will be key.  If he can win semi state over haines, that will be huge.  The loser of that match wants to avoid a potential saturday morning match with Jackson or dickey.

The rest have their work cut out for them.  they all have land mines at semi state, which could lead to some rough draws at state.  106 is no cake walk  at Evansville with Hockaday, Rioux, Schaefer, LaRocca and Feeler all in the mix.

Same for 120.  the Zirkelback/Egli loser at regional is a long shot to make it to state.  Even the winner will have a tough go to qualify.  Logan Miller, Lane Gilbert, Reese Courtney, Kessinger and Lykins make it a seriously deep weight.

152 - May should qualify and make a good run, but again, draw and his health will play a part in how far he goes.

Ralph - He's wrestled well, but 285 is always a crap shoot.  Jones is the clear favorite out of Evansville, but Ralph can certainly qualify for state.

I just don't think MD has the horses to win this year.  I think they can finish 3rd, but Brownsburg and CP will too strong.

You are correct on all of the above. The Evansville Semi State will create some horrible draws for people at state, both from Evansville and people drawing into Evansville. Does a semi state champ want to draw into Rioux, Schaeffer, LaRocca or Feeler? Any of these guys could place 4th in Evansville.  Even Saturday morning looking at one of these four can't make you feel good.

The draw is always a huge determining factor for teams. Winning on Saturday morning for MD is a must for them to have a legitimate shot at BB or CP, but I think Schaeffer, Seng, May, and Ralph all have the ability to do so. I also think if Egli gets hot he has the ability to make it much further than most people think. Remember, he's a semi state champ from a year ago and would have likely placed pretty well had he not drawn into Cottey.

I can't wait to see how it plays out, but I agree we could see a record broken this year and I think the state finals are going to be very exciting.
