  1. We just completed a great 7-8 months with the high school kids that supplemented their training with us this off-season. The kids trained very hard and we are eager to see them chase down their goals this season. The blue group's workout will change to 6:45-8:15pm on Sunday nights and 6:45-8:15pm on Wednesday nights. Reminder there is no workout this Wednesday due to Halloween. Enjoy the holiday!
  2. Beginning tomorrow September 17th the big high school group will workout at 6:45pm with the 140 and below group on Mondays. We will only be combining the 2 high school groups on Monday nights. So on Sundays the Orange Group (big hs kids) will go at 5pm like normal. But on Mondays the Orange Group will practice at 6:45pm. Call if you have any questions regarding the schedule change. Thanks. 3. I read this a couple of days ago... you guys might find this interesting on where the Hawkeyes stand on the subject: The possibility of the National Duals determining who wins the NCAA team title is the hottest topic in wrestling right now and there are a lot of coaches on either side of the proposal. We know guys like Rob Koll and Brian Smith are for it, we heard from Missouri head coach Brian Smith as to why he is for the change. We know that guys like Cael Sanderson and Tom Brands oppose the change and the Hawkeye head coach has released a statement as to why he does not believe that this change is the best thing for the sport. From the desk of Iowa head coach Tom Brands: We already have both formats, we have had both formats for years. Lately there has been a push to legitimize the national duals by changing the format, dates, and qualifying structure. This change was heralded as the savior and the predictions were that record crowds would attend. We found out that the attendance was poor at the regionals and below average at the finals. Is is IMPORTANT to note this, not to throw salt in the wound, but to point out that the new structure was more of a bust then even the past structure when the duals were held in mid-January. This year Iowa reluctantly attended. It did not work, now we push to replace one of the most exciting wrestling events in the world with this concept?? What the heck? For the record: Iowa is opposed! Comparing successful dual meet crowds with potential for a bonanza at the national duals event is not relevant. It is a fact that the number of fans are greater for regular season duals. The reason for this is that the timing for regular season duals between two wrestling titans is what brings the fervor and creates the interest from the fans. It has been proven that the national duals does not duplicate that fervor. For example: Iowa v. Okla St brought more fans in the regular season dual in 2011 and 2012 (2011: in Stillwater; 2012: in Iowa City) then the championship finals of the national duals in this years format. Look at the numbers. Nor will ESPN create fervor with a television agreement. Empty seats in the background on national tv is not fun to watch. No empty seats at the NCAA Tournament creates a wrestling event made for television that keeps getting better. We have to create the buzz, the fervor, the excitement before we change a great thing. Shooting from the hip and changing just to change is backwards. We have tried the new format, we have tried new timing, new structure, new qualifying, new locations. It does not work well enough yet. None of these issues has been figured out well enough to run the national duals at a high level, let alone replace the NCAA Division 1 National Tournament. And we still push this agenda?? Solution: Continue to try to figure out a way an exciting dual champion can be crowned that is best for the sport and all the programs. Keep tweaking, keep working, keep at it until we get it right. Get a consensus among the majority. Are you going to tell your wrestlers bonus points do not matter anymore? You take the team race out the NCAA tournament, it will gravitate to mediocre. We have got to keep the NCAA Tournament as it is.
  4. Sunday August 5th practices will be made up on next Tuesday. Tuesday August 14th from 5:30-7pm we will combine the hs groups and have one workout for both high school groups.
  5. No workouts today for the high school kids. Power outage due to last nights storms, so no lights in wrestling room. 5:00 and 6:45 (both) groups will be rescheduled on another date, probably this week. Stay tuned for more info. Thanks
  6. We took 10 kids from the club to FILA Cadets this weekend and came back with 2 AA's. Mitch Sliga won the 85 KG bracket and has earned the right to represent Team USA at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in August. Wes Bernard finished 5th place at 125 KG. We had a few guys at 63 KG come close to a top 6 finish. All 10 kids wrestled hard and competed well, and we are especially happy for Mitch.... Good for you Sliga! Reminder there are no workouts today. Workouts will resume like normal tomorrow, and we will move Sunday's high school workouts from today to Tuesday night for this week.
  7. Brian Harvey is also competing this weekend at 70 kg (154.25 lbs)
  8. Typo.... the college group will go from 7:30-9pm Hey birthday boy, think you can put the updated calendar that I sent you last week up on the website already?

  10. I never said it was a bad prediction lol, and by the way your boys looked tough as always on Sunday. I'll predict this.... that it is going to be a fun tournament to watch as it is every year, in my opinion it's without a doubt the greatest show in high school sport. Good luck to all involved!
  11. Only 1 person "bidfarewell" predicted that Micic will major everyone in the field on this thread.
  12. That's a very bold statement that all 3 kids are a major better than the field.... -Boston beat Whitten 6-2 in the ticket round -Cash beat Cottey 7-3 in December (tied match in the 3rd period and gave up 5 point move) -Cash beat Cottey 5-0 at regionals (3-0 in the 3rd Cottey had a good chance to score a headlock in the 3rd but it was stopped because either Cash called injury time or it was called potentially dangerous) -Cash beat Peek 6-1 (1-0 match going into the 3rd period) But if you're right I'll come find you Saturday night Tucker and bust out 500 push ups!
  13. Two years ago there were more Mishawaka kids in the room than Cathedral kids.... but the real question is how much longer will it be until P puts the newsletter on the CIA website.
  14. Reminder to all CIA members that the blue group will practice on Sunday @10am! Practice is at 10am on Sunday morning, instead of the regular time at 6:45 due to the Super Bowl.
  15. Reminder to all CIA members that the blue group will practice on Sunday @10am! Practice is at 10am on Sunday morning, instead of the regular time at 6:45 due to the Super Bowl.
  16. Duncan will have to go through 2 time state qualifier and state placer Levi Moss before he could get to McKinley in the finals
  17. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION... the CIA Tailgate will live on no matter how bad the weather is! P can doubt me all he wants, but he always says when things aren't going your way or when times get tough you have 2 choices.... to either FIGHT or CRY... and I will choose to fight. And AJ you're right, of course I'll be inside while Ol' Man Fair and Ol' Man Freije man the grill. I might not ever be lucky enough to be as tough as Coach P is, but I do like to think I'm smarter. P.S the truth is the tailgate is really still on because Mom did indeed give the okay, she even baked Coach P his own batch of brownies.
  18. Folks, you heard it here first! Coach Glasser just making things happen as usual.
  19. It will take place at my house located behind the high school. Google Maps says it is a whopping .2 miles from the tailgate to the gym. Unfortunately I don't know the guys who run broadcastsports.net very well, but maybe if we get the word out we can get some live video coverage at the tailgate.... and maybe if we get really lucky Coach P will give the audience a rundown of the dual meet and a "prediction" if he's not too busy eating his turkey burger.
  20. Yeah the tailgate is going to be awesome, and the dual is going to be even better!
  21. We (CIA) don't host any tournaments. Coach Pendoski for the past few summers has organized a day camp with the Mishawaka High School wrestling team, and then the next day they go to Perry Meridian. At Perry, Coach P usually does some technique with both teams in the warm up... then Coach Tonte and his staff and Coach Snyder and his staff pair kids up and they wrestle matches for a couple hours. It's a lot of fun, and both programs do it shortly before Disney to help prepare their kids with some quality matches. It was at this "scrimmage" that Forte vs. McKinley happened, they both are great wrestlers and it will certainly be an exciting match to watch next weekend if it happens.
  22. They are not injured, they are both healthy and well.
