We use same weights as individual middle school state. 65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100,106,113,120,126,132,138,145,152,160,170,182,195,220,285.

The way that I have always understood it is that you have to questions the score/outcome in this case before your wrestler steps off of the mat.  Once your wrestler has stepped off of the mat you can no longer go back and question the scoring of the match.

I agree that the system in IN puts the STATE CHAMP on top of the podium.  In that sense wrestle-backs are pointless.
However, without wrestle-backs it is absurd to actually 'place' and subsequently 'medal' the top 8 at the State Tournament.  Based on our system the podium should have ONE spot-CHAMPION and that's it.  At State if you lose you should be done in any round.
In fact, only sectional champions should move on, only regional champs and only SS champs.  Lose and go home...right?

Or those better kids went to a different part of the state in the regular season, beat 3 state qualifiers (1 medalist), but go through a different semi-state so they ran into somebody that was legitimately better than them in the ticket round. When I coached at Mooresville, I had a state qualifier at 132 that returned to that weight for his senior season. He won all his matches at 132 that year aside from losing to Brayton Lee in the finals of Regionals, earning him a 2 seed. Probably the third best wrestler in the semi-state, but he draws into Nick Lee for the Ticket Round. Season over. Career over. Had to watch not 1, not 2, but 3 kids he beat that season medal over him while he sat in the stands, not to mention others he defeated that lost on Friday night. This is a rarity, I understand, but it wouldn't happen near as often if we had true wrestlebacks.

B/C Ky is a state like Indiana that gets it, one class one champ. Jesus we'd be on here forever comparing the 18 classes in all those other states.

Absolutely. Of the Illinois wrestlers I know, all would prefer a single class. I think that says a lot.

Did you ever wrestle? It's not a sport of glory. It's a blue color grinding life lesson. If kids are joining wrestling so they can be state qualifiers then we are making it too easy to qualify.

I agree. The goal is to be the best in your weight when you step on the mat that day. Of course when you split it into two classes that can't happen.

So once again why should we stop there? Let's make it 5 classes and qualify 1120 kids rather that two classes and 488 kids. 5 times the kids experiencing glory will increase interest even more than your terrible idea of just trying to double it. There are 5 states that have no tournament leading to state finals. We need to get on their level of interest. Everyone qualifies for state finals.

I feel like we should have Oprah Winfrey give out awards. "You qualify for state, you qualify for state, everyone qualifies for state."

So do you feel if we moved to 5 classes, like some of these states that have less wrestling teams than Indiana, we could qualify 1120 kids to state every year and nearly every team in the state would see number increases from having the publicity of a state qualifier?

I'd love to know how I'm losing? The system in place is the one I want. Besides if I lose this battle and Indiana goes to classes, the entire state of Indiana wrestling losses.

I have a proposal that makes everyone happy. We could have a state championship like normal and then we can have a secondary title that any school ,no matter the size, can opt to not wrestle in the normal tournament and go to the secondary tournament. All by choice without forcing anyone. That way the guys who want the glory can have that and the guys who have a little pride can wrestle for the real title.

Im just guessing that those who want classed state champions were ones who never got to be 1? I may be wrong but why would a STATE CHAMPION even bring this up...i just asked my brother "Who was" and his response..."I was asked as a freshman why i didnt play basketball that i woukd probably be a starter. I Simply replied are we going to win a state title? How many other guys will i depend on to help win this for me? Coach: well you have no guarantees you'll win 1 wrestling either!! My brother: No but i dictate wheather i do or not and i wont feel as good if im an average player with minimal playing time so i think ill take my chances at my own glory"....

I keep hearing that if we have classes there will be more numbers because of more success. Let's just quit screwing around with all the bull crap. If we could have 32 classes we could crown 448 state champions a year and that is bound to benefit every school in the state. This would help the sport. Me and y2 are leading wrestling into the future.

It's simple enough. If I caught a bartender putting water in my Bourbon I'd punch him in the face.

It always seems like the argument comes down to "will it help smaller schools grow?" I highly doubt that. You already have classed basketball and football. Southwestern doesn't even have a football team. Classing that sport didn't seem to help them any.
