  3. Alex Joseph is now the Head Wrestling Coach at Guerin Catholic HS. We are very excited to have Coach Joseph leading the Golden Eagle Wrestling Program. ajoseph@guerincatholic.org
  4. I believe the team weigh in sheets signed by officials and completed Alpha sheet should be sufficient. It would be nice if each team submitted a list of common opponents (schedule) to make the seeding meeting more efficient.
  5. Coaches, I know this comes up every year, and I have gotten some conflicting info from different coaches. Making scratch weight does not include the 2 pound growth allowance. That is why it is called scratch weight. It also has to be a qualifying weigh in according to the daily/weekly weight loss calculator to count. I am sure most of you know this, but I just did not want a wrestler/team be penalize for not interpreting the rule incorrectly. Also, reminder that weigh ins have to be recorded by your AD/Trainer in the ihsaa.net weight management site. It will automatically determine if the entry is a qualifying weigh in or not. Honestly, I was not aware of this until we got the reminder email from Mr. Faulkins over break.
  6. How do you add your full roster? Does it fill in when you add a meet result? Tonight is our first meet of the year. Just want to make sure I am doing what I need to. Nevermind. I saw where only the kids on the rankings watch list are added. How do you get a wrestler noticed for the rankings watch list? Beat someone else that on the list? Have a few young wrestlers that are pretty good, but we have not wrestled yet.
  7. Thank you to New Castle, ISWA and the IHSWCA for a great opportunity for Indiana kids. I saw some REALLY talented kids wrestle. We talk a lot on the high school board, but these are the programs and wrestlers for the future. Great event - Thank you.

  10. I agree. Great job at Warren Central. Excellent opportunity for coaches to create a relationship with officials. The wrestling community is a partnership between athletes, coaches, officials, parents and school administrators. Tom Clark, Kevin Troy and JD Minch have all been very supportive to GC wrestling community and me. Thank you.

  15. Congrats Coach. Your willingness to work with the youth is a proof of your commitment to the sport. I have taken my son to Oak Hill many times to wrestle. Thank you and congrats!
  16. We (Guerin Catholic) are a young team that is working to build a program. It is important that we compete against schools at our level, but also see programs that are where we want to get to. We have 5 frosh, 6 sophomores, 2 juniors and one senior in the line up. I appreciate that when we lost a meet right before the season, Cathedral reached out to include us in the their super six. It will be a tough day for us, but we want to strive to compete against some of the best programs.
  17. I posted information in the open dates section of the forum, but I didn't know how many coaches are looking at it now that the season has started. Please take a look if interested.
  18. Talked to Mr. Faulkens yesterday. He is planning on having a webinar to clarify. The team is to only schedule 18 total weigh in points. For example, we had 5 dual meets and 7 tournaments scheduled = 19 total weigh in points. We are not in compliance. We have to drop a dual meet. I was going to just set out wrestlers from one of the tournaments to make sure they did not go over the 18 total - not in compliance. If you have an large squad, then you can divide into essentially an "A" and "B" varsity team. Then you can overall schedule more matches, and "A" team would wrestle one schedule, and "B" team would wrestle the other schedule. Still no individual wrestler my have more than 18 weigh in points.
  19. We were told the same thing that Karl is saying. 18 total varsity weigh in points per team, and no wrestler can have more that 18 total (JV/V/Combined). Sorry if I added to the confusion.
  20. So is it 18 weigh ins per wrestler or 18 per team? Seems like a simple answer. I just want to make sure I am following the rules.
  21. From what Mr. Faulkens relayed to us is that is to both. The team can only have 18 weigh ins and the wrestler can only have 18 weighs between jv/v. I was hoping that it would just follow the wrestler as well. Sure would be nice for the IHSAA would post a clear statement, so us coaches can adjust our schedules with respect to teams we may have to drop. Can the IHSWCA get a clear answer and post to coaches? I am hearing my info from my AD, who does not have a background in wrestling. I don't see the issue with attaching weigh ins with the ind. wrestler vs. the team. What if you have a rotation of a couple kids in a weight class? Injured? 18 per team is not enough if is only attached to team.
  22. Love the part about the mind taking over and not letting the body shut down. Sometimes we are just physically overmatched and that is just the way it is. But when you have two good wrestlers, it comes down to who wins mentally.
  23. Guess they are illegal in high school. Not sure why.
  24. Are the two piece singlets legal for high school wrestlers? Not sure I am a huge fan, but I am interested as an alternative singlet. Believe it or not, but when I ask athletes to try wrestling, their first response is to having to wear a singlet. It seams like it would be legal considering more and more kids are wearing a compression shirt underneath singlet.
